Absolutely, such a high level. The ability to see nuance in timing and spatial relationships, all to make one simple decision, it's really hard to fault players. But that's the level of Champions League... The difference between "just don't go" and taking "one or two steps" is in the final score.

It would have been the softest penalty given in the history of penalties. Just like the softest red card given was wheb Van Persie took a shot and the whistle was blown but he didnt hear it.

Thats not a was you can argument in a football match come on! Following that reasoning i could execute a set peace and touch the ball and repeat it whenever i want. Its like saying the ball is over there so it doesnt matter if i punch the opponent on this side of the pitch. I can understand when you dont think thats a penalty but your argument doesnt make any sense. Nevertheless the action was very amateur like from the referee before all but also from the arsenal defense. You can see that both of them have no experience on that level you can overlook such mistakes in a little league game but not in a ucl quterfinal thats embarrassing

Why didn’t Saka just try to round Neuer and shoot? I don’t understand trying to get a pen vs trying to score in that situation. Had a better probability of scoring vs getting a pen.

Just look at Saka's right leg movement and direction. His body is following the ball, but his right leg goes in a different direction towards Neuer, trying to force that impact.

It's clear that Neuer committed and if the pen was given by the ref, no one would be denying it like this because players have been drawing/forcing fouls for years just like Sane did. Neuer clearly commits and Saka uses it to his advantage.

Everyone talking about the Saka penalty decision (imo its no pen, its more Saka initiating a contact) BUT not a single word on Gabriel's CLEAR handball... he just picks up the ball passed by Raya for like 3 seconds and puts it back down to continue playing. One of the most blantantly missed calls in Champions League history right there

@@David-g6 No it wasent, watch the replay you can clearly see and hear the referee blow his whistle to restart the game then Raya passed the ball to Gabrielle which he then proceeded to pick it up, the ref admitted he made an error and should have given a penalty.

@@David-g6 so wouldn't it be embarassing that Arsenal fans are begging for a pen in the Saka incident as well?! Those are huge decisions which are naturally discussed. On the Gabriel-incident: The referee blew the whistle to continue with the kickoff. Raya then plays a pass to Gabriel (or does his kick off routine as you'd call it [its essentially the same thing]). Gabriel just picks up the live ball with his hands. Referee even saw it and told the players he wouldn't reward a penalty for "a kid's mistake" like that. I mean come on... By that he admits that he saw it and just ignores the rules of the game at that point. Its the most obvious handball penalty you can imagine, horrific no call by the ref... I really don't see a discussion here. Ofc it looks hilariously stupid but there are rules for a reason, Gabriel can't just pick up the ball with his hands

That explanation is wild considering that these are professionals not kids. Even though it's stupid, rules are rules so it's a clear penalty. Saka is no penalty at all because he is the one initiating contact to Neuer not the other way around.

I think arsenal played not too bad, other than Kiwior, the rest were pretty average ish, not their best of course. But they should’ve won the game. Bayern we’re mediocre other than a few counter attacks they just sat back and we’re constantly opened up but arsenal couldn’t finish, Ben white 1v1 and saka 1v1, odegaard also had a few chances to shoot but he didn’t

But Gabriel picking up the Ball after Raya executing goal kick and bringing the ball into live play is a clear handpenalty. Ref even admitted it was a violation but told players it was a kids mistake and he won't give a penalty for those kind of mistakes. So he clearly chose to ignore the rules. Yes it looks stupid but rules are rules so Bayern got robbed.

As much as I wanted Arsenal to win and win big, I thought Saka went for the foul instead of trying to shoot it on goal. I didn't think it was a penalty. It was a wasted opportunity that I think reflects on the spirit of the team as a whole. They should have gone for a win at the Etihad a few days ago when they needed all 3 points to reach the top of the PL . That Liverpool gifted them 2 points a few days later was unexpected. But Arsenal played safe and went for a draw against City. Until they believe they CAN beat anyone, I think they will continue to play safe. Another wasted opportunity.

@@AnupKandel Bayern lost at home to a midtable/low table team recently. Arsenal could beat Bayern. Playing at Allianz is not a difference maker with Bayern's current form. That being said, i still think Bayern will win and pass. Not so much for the stadium, but because realistically they have nothing else to play for besides the UCL. So the player will be really focused in that game, since the UCL is all they have left.

Saka was readjusting his balance and planting his right foot so that he could swing his left foot at it. At first I thought he was trying to win a penalty, but watching it back many times I think he's trying to score. He touches the ball past Neuer and then tries to shift his balance and turn his body in mid air to take the shot, when he plants his right foot, Neuers leg catches it. If Neuers leg didn't catch it, Saka would have been able to shoot with his left foot.

absolutely agree. Saka needs to extend his right leg to have the balence to change direction when his foot lands and Neuer takes him out. You can tell who plays football and who doesn’t

If that was his intention, he would not have gone down easily, he went down because his intention was to make a meal out of any contact he felt.... Just like Elliot did this weekend, he made a meal out of any contact he felt but WBS did not touch him, Elliot kicks into WBS and goes down and the penalty is given. The player trying to get a penalty does not care what really happens, they only care about inviting contact and going down as soon as you feel something, if the ref gives it you are lucky coz somehow var never calls the ref. If the ref dont give it then var calls the ref on the screen. Thank God when Sterling was diving for us there was no var😂😂😂😂😂

Now it'll be huge task for both Arsenal and Real Madrid to progress from here. In the past also Arsenal have drawn with Bayern at the Emirates, but Bayern completely decimated us at their fortress. But, this time though Arsenal have a vastly improved team as well. So, hopefully it's different this time around... 🤞🏻🤞🏻 P.S.: Also, another fault with Arsenal is that we have to stop silly mistakes like yesterday with Kiwior. Arsenal were average today, average in both matches against Porto and average in their away match against Lens. We simply have not transferred our PL form to the CL. So they're underdogs now. To be fair, it took Man City many consecutive campaigns before they finally won the CL. This is the first campaign for this young team and so we shouldn't be too surprised with our nerves, mistakes and naivety. Our CL this year is like our PL last year - a big learning experience and step in the right direction. It's in future seasons, maybe next, when we'll see more confident, fluid and assured performances.

Well, but if you would look at it closely again, you'd see Neuer moving his leg back under his body after extending it. The contact happens when Neuers leg is firmly planted underneath his body, so all these "experts" are right when they say that the contact happened when Neuer didn't extend his leg.

The problem is not that the Ref didn't call it. From his position on the field I can totally understand that. The problem is that VAR CLEARLY has all the angles. And there are so many that CBS isn't even showing that show Neuer steping into him as Saka does his outside cut to the left at speed. VAR is the problem with this one. This is the kind of moment where VAR is beneficial.

He doesn’t make any effort to either dive at Saka’s feet with his hands, he doesn’t make any effort to use his feet to tackle saka either. He literally defends his space ffs.
