Even a dark mysterious shape encased in the ice needs to be meticulously crafted. Well, alright not as meticulously crafted as something not encased in a block of ice, but it still has to look cool.
See what we did there? CooL... right? Enjoy the video and please help keep Practical Effects REAL! www.kickstarter.com/projects/1...

What creeps me out is how symmetrical this creature is, ''thing'' mutations are usually asymmetrical, random, and look like some sort of blob of parts, unlike this first creature.

@ilkerdemirci1764

Personally, I think the reason why the Thing's mutations look asymmetrical is because those are mutation of the imitation. When the Thing tries to imitate an organism, the only way to know if it's the real deal or the alien is not by look. Here, I assume because the creature assimilated must have been pretty powerful by looks of it, the Thing didn't needed to mutate so to protect itself, or at the very least, the Thing wasn't given time to mutate and retaliate, thus giving the Thing no other option but to escape. The creature that the Thing imitated when arriving on Earth clearly is more capable than the humans and other dogs that it met with. Leading to my point, when we see Palmer Thing, Blair Thing, Norris Thing and the Dog Thing, they are not always asymmetrical. Tl;Dr: The Thing is always symmetrical unless it fails to completely imitate an organism (i.e. Bennings Thing) or is threatened and/or given time to mutate. At the very least, that's my theory.

The ingenious aspect of The Thing (film adaptations) is that we may never know what its original form looked like. Remember Fuchs reading from Blair's notes saying ..."it could have imitated a million life forms on a million planets. And could change into any of them at anytime..."? The Thing could literally be any-thing. Thinking about this concept is absolutely mind-blowing. Even more so if it could retain the genetic memory of every creature it assimilated. Not only lethal but, with superior intelligence.

It's pretty damn scary, actually. There is no real way to effectively stop the creature. Each individual cell and molecule in the thing is a separate organism. Its all or nothing. Kill it with fire, pray you got it all, and trust no one. :T

It would clearly be left as a world with a biodiversity simply comprised of one species, The Thing, but all meanwhile imitating the life it would have assimilated in it's rampage. Let's take a alternate timeline to explain: if The Thing did succeed in killing MacReady, fly off on the junkyard spaceship and conquer the world, everything would, eventually be, completely comprised of one species, but simply imitating all life seen and discovered on Earth. Although to be honest, that would take so freakishly long that some native species could possibly evolve to fight against The Thing. Now here's the thing: we don't know if the creatures can transmit itself through sexual means or, in any case, can bear any offspring in result of activity. We don't know if the creature can also assimilate plant matter, since it rips through clothes when infesting someone. The probability is it cannot: it needs animals to spread and assimilate. What could happen is that our dear planet Earth would be, one day, completely covered by one single species that would imitate everything in the exception of plants. Eventually, to not die off starvation, life would be rewritten by The Thing and act as, not a paradox of biological evolution, but as a catalyst for the restart of life on Earth. Some would instant evolve to continue perhaps a herbivorous life, such as a cow-Thing, meanwhile the cougar-Thing would pursue it's original carnivorous life by attacking the cow-Thing, but each launching an assault with their shape shifting abilities. I know they would attack each other because there is evidence that some Things can willfully, or perhaps mistakenly, sacrifice other more evident incantations of Things to allow their very own survival. On the human side, it's another story. But considering that the Blair-Thing was able to make a ship out of planks of wood and ripped helicopter parts, it could be very bad for all life in the galaxy: 1) Humanity could become united by a singularity of the species under the influence of the Thing and start building ships towards other worlds; or 2) Thing-infected humanity decays into feral-like pockets of 'human' population that continues our legacy of war, but now with our knowledge of weaponry and warfare combined with their shapeshifting abilities. In other words, paradoxically, the world itself wouldn't change much: life on Earth would be, but only at the cellular level. The 6 billion years of evolution that led up to now would be 'modified' with The Thing and continue to proceed in a new cycle of evolution.

Peusterokos1 So basically, the thing would kill every lifeform on Earth, and potentially, the other aliens that exist in it's universe before filling the ecological niches which the once-pure organisms took. Seems plausible.

I always thought the "Thing" was cellular, imitating whatever it attacks. Like in the 1981 The Thing. The ship wobbling thru space was because its pilots were being assimilated. Then at the end, the Blair Monster was all the aliens and creatures it ever assimilated in one. I don't know if it ever had a physical body.

In the book the original thing creature was described with three blood red eyes, and despite the alien nature of it, the humans just felt pure, seething hatred from the eyes and the face. Whatever it was looked like the most hateful, hostile being with a face of pure fury. They got nightmares after seeing those hateful eyes, and could not bear to look at it or be around it. I wish we could've seen something like that expressed here.
