Things From the Flood is a 1990s-themed alternate reality tabletop RPG by Free League. It is a spiritual sequel to Tales From the Loop, which took place in the 1980s. In Flood, players are teenagers facing off against both everyday problems and weird supernatural phenomena.

Oh you are kidding me. I just found the art book in the book store today and was immediately drawn to it. I was thinking how cool would it be if someone made an RPG out of it.

The Swedish islands this game (and Tales from the Loop) take place on are not actually all that remote. Going from Central Stockholm to Stenhamra (marked on the map, south of the evacuation zone) should take a little bit over 30min by car. It's still an island though, with only one bridge leading to the mainland, so plenty of room for complications! As a teenager in the early 00's I would regularly go out there to play the very RPG that Simon Stålenhag has cited as a source of inspiration: Mutant.

Thank you for this review. I only discovered "Tales from the Loop" a few days ago, but it shows a lot of promise - a return to simplicity and role-play. It's great to know that players can continue to immerse themselves in this world via "Things from the Flood".

Chronologically "The Electric State" is the art book that is "after" Things from the flood. I don't however know that the electric state is part of the same continuity in the way that tales from the loop and things from the flood is.

I was wondering the same, specially now that The Eletric State has become a RPG. I've just seen an interview where they mention that it isn't in the same universe.

I hope FL releases the third game for this line, set in the alternative 2000's , as they announced a long while ago. Depends of Stallenhag's inspiration and involvement of course but fingers crossed.

I was completely sleeping on this game, but your video does an excellent (and soothing!) job of pointing out this system's potential for horror and drama.

I'm thinking with the machine cancer the next edition might be a bit more post-apoc. Like 20 somethings in a millennial dark age and fantasy creatures, kinda? IDK, the machine cancer makes me think they have a way to make the next one interesting.

The show is based on only the art from the book, whereas the RPG, and this review, is the art plus the words. They are two separate universes really, the show and the RPG.

@@DaveThaumavore Yeah, it's really interesting how different they are. I've watched about half of the season so far and I haven't seen a single magnatrine ship or dinosaur! 😅 And the adults are way more present in the TftL show rather than the game (TftL not TftF).
