It's not surprise that the school is taking it seriously, it's how quickly they lock into it and how it's an obvious smokescreen for their own emotional baggage, through the focal lens of the Abed/Troy dynamic. Your literacy is depressingly low.

they are almost always incentivized like prizes,guiness world records reputation etc. so people would be motivated to play fairly or they are just bored and dont want to attend classes ( i know i would enjoy events like this now and then). if one ever cheated i would assume they would endlessly bully that guy.

The prize was a comic book that was valued at $50,000. The fact that she's broke might indicate that due to Abed's emotional sensitivity to Troy leaving she either never cashed in the book or never accepted the gift at all.

I worked in TV. It was. In the first draft there may have been a placeholder, but by the time they shot the episode, Fillion would have been locked in as a guest on the next episode, and the writers would have known that.

Just like when Jeff meets his father for Thanksgiving, he did need her but she overstepped and was psycho for going there and meeting the father before Jeff did. I mean even in this episode she was the one to bring up the idea but in the end Abed fully accepted it on his own with Troy.
