The other day my history teacher gave me an assignment to write about my culture. I asked my mom what our culture was (because I have never come to a point in my life where I need to know that-) and she replied with "Oh. I'm part German and French. But Germany sucks so just talk about France." that was so out of context

Lidl and Aldi are not supermarkets in the traditional sense. They are "Discounters". They try to be very cheap by offering only basic groceries. Kaufland, Rewe, Edeka, Real etc are real Supermarktes. But they are probably still relatively small compared to other countries XD

@Lilopad
@Lilopad 3 жыл бұрын
As someone whos lived half my life in germany and half in Britain... my local tescos in England is almost as big as the ikea is and all the other big chain supermarkets were big enough to get properly lost in with 30 aisles... every single German supermarket I've been to so far has no more than 5-6 aisles which are much smaller
@andreasb1352
@andreasb1352 3 жыл бұрын
@@Lilopad most likely those are decending from the former Kolonialwarenläden (now often EDEKA) or Tante-Emma-Laden, which all are fairly small. there are quite big stores around, though not in all you are allowed to shop without owning a business (i.e. Metro, C+C and similar). In Munich there is VM, which is bigger than many Walmart stores in the US, also Real and Kaufland (Lidl subsidiary) usually are very big shops. I would compare them with a typical Tesco. On the other hand, I have been to Saintsbury in Cambridge and that store was quite tiny, basically just one aisle. So, I guess it always depends what you are looking for. a discounter will only have limited variety but sell fairly cheap (actually not really), whereas in a "full-sortiment-store" (Vollsortimenter) you can buy pretty much everything and are able to order specifics if you would like to (just talk to the manager, they are usually happy to order specials for you). This is, however, only based on my knowledge when I worked in an Edeka during my university years.

For the Netflix = an VPN could help, maybe (I advice to try it as an option). I'm agree that Germany doesn't seems to have the best softpower like Japan or US/UK (wtf with Derrick?). Anyway they have a culture, history, city aestetic, huge forests, pastries, which make Germany an awesome place (so they're forgiveable).

We used to travel all around the world as missionaries. We went to Indoneasia, Bali, Cambodia, New Guniea, Singapore, China and many other places. In Indonesian, there isn't really the words like of, or or the. It was a very interesting language! It was also kinda weird because, like many other places, whites weren't really common in Indonesia. People would stare and take selfies with us all the time XD. They would call us "Bulai" which is white person in Indonesia :D. I love to see others talking about different countries and the experiences because I can relate :)
