Serious question: why the hell don't they just use a music notation that puts all the notes on separate lines/spaces instead of having key signatures? Wouldn't that be easier for everyone?
@BartoszBanachewicz
@BartoszBanachewicz 4 жыл бұрын
@@Xezlec Actually, no. While the current notation has its problems, it also has some nice properties. If you wrote out all 12 tones, the music would take double the space! Even worse, half of this space would be unused most of the time. A key with 6 sharps (e.g. G flat minor from the vid) can be read remembering simply that there's only one natural note B - so it's not really unusable.

I find 6 sharp easy. All you have to know is that the 7th note is natural. If you practice your scales you will know immediately which note is not sharp. Sure it's messy when they start putting natural which carry over lol. I find more difficult 2-4 sharps. Hard to remember, plus for sure you will start finding double sharps and tons of natural.

@angelhuang3651

Nice, our band had 4 bass clarinets. When the school came to record a video to show to the incoming students, she went around naming instruments. “We have well known instruments like flutes and clarinets, our brass section (cue our terrible French horns) and more unheard of instruments like bassoon, euphonium, oboe, and (looks around wildly for a few seconds) bass clarinets! And there are all the times she forgot us in tuning, homework, pieces, and testing. The most melody we’ve gotten was 4 measures. Our teacher has a case of tuba favoritism. Every year, we play a piece called “Hark the Herold Tubas Sing” because tubas “don’t get enough attention or melody” Our section came up with a new name “Bark the Bass Clarinets Cry” We could get away with a lot though. Half the section was always on their phone, and the other half was either eating or reading. I joined bass clarinet because I thought it was cool, but middle school band took the joy out of it. TL,DR: Being a bass clarinet sucks If you see this band teacher, please give bass clarinets more pieces with melody

The band version: 5: I love it when the flutes are the loudest and more off pitch instrument in the band and the director neglects to mention anything 4: It’s my favorite when the conductor wants us to balance our pitch on the last note and nobody can seem to listen to the tuba 3: I get ecstatic when none of the other people practice outside of band and have NO SHAME 2: I’m practically orgasming when I think about having to lug my instrument home 1: I’m definitely not dying inside when my conductor doesn’t believe in “slow sight reading” (or slow playing) even though I play French Horn and I really need to work on those octave jumps...

Something that have never been said by clarinetists: Yes! The sight of someone touch the thin part of the reed is so satisfying! Don’t worry if you drop your clarinet! It’s easy to fix! Yay! Delay our practice by getting up to spit in the trash ever so often! Of course! Leave the clarinet on it’s bell! I love having to sit in front of the guy that blasts his instrument! P.S I might have to explain the third one, so here: in my clarinet class, I have this one kid that has a trash can right next to him so he can spit in it after he plays something. Okay right? Well, sometimes, we practice in our band hall. And the trash can is by the door. So this kid walks over to the trash can just to spit, and there goes a minute and a have of possible practice time. This happens repeatedly. My teacher has told this kid that there won’t be a trash can at the concert, and he’ll have to swallow it.
