Ynnest isn't really favour, it's more like privileged favour. "Det är en ynnest att hjälpa dig med dina barn" would be like "It's my privilege to help you with your kids". And preskriberat are not right, a crime is "preskriberat" after a certain length of time. There are several words that seem to mean the same in english and swedish, but they mean something completely different.

You did great!!!! Every pronunciation spot on :) I mean, the chosen "tungvrickare" is hard for even us Swedes. One thing about the word preskribera though. I don't think I often use that word for medicine prescribed by the doctor, I'd rather say "läkarn skrev ut det" =) Of course it's correct but somewhat old-fashioned maybe. But however when it comes to crime, for example a case of a violent robbery's committed years ago is preskriberat, the guilty can no longer be convicted.

But I struggle NOT to get pitch accent into English, which I started to learn 50 years ago, so please don't feel bad about that. :-) Btw, when you feel ready for the next level, try 'västkustskt' . _That's_ a challenge, even for a native speaker!

@@JustaBritAbroad Japanese isn't that difficult to pronounce. The tonality of Japanese doesn't change as a rule. Unlike Sweden that goes up and down a lot. I learned Japanese many years ago, to a degree. I'd say the best way to get the sounds right is pretending you are doing ventriloquism, barely moving your lips and keep you mouth as still as possible. Swedish is the other way around, opening your mouth makes it easier to get the right pronounciation.

You did really great. From these examples I can only hear a need to improve one Swedish sound which is very different from the English alphabet: Y - you could easily learn the difference by exaggerating the contrast between example-pairs like: tycka - ticka; sy - si; by - bi; ynka - inka; lyfta - lifta - and maybe also give these a contrasting pronunciation: lucka - lycka; unge - yngel; rusa - rysa; bugga - bygga; mus - mys. As these words mean different things you could confuse listeners who first might guess wrong and then have to correct their interpretation. Look very closely at your girl-friends cute mouth when she says these sounds - you will like y much better than i (because to produce y one hast to round the lips) 🙂- but i is nice, too, i resembles a smile in Swedish. I suggest you'll get a kiss for every Swedish Y - ha det så kul!

I am impressed that you got the Swedish 'u' sound correct. Most foreigners pronounce it like a long oo in English. Like Swedish 'sju' (7) will be schoo for so many. :) Also that you have got a hang of the Swedish accents, both grave and acute. So differ between 'anden' (definite form of 'and' = duck) which has acute accent and 'anden' (definite form of 'ande' = spirit) with grave accent. This is almost impossible to learn for many foreigners as their languages are not accent dependent. I live close to Falun, the "capital" in Dalarna. It is 'Faalun, not Fal'un /Faloon/ :)

Sje-ljudet. It is very different in different varieties of Swedish. In East Swedish spoken in Finland, it is exactly the same as the English sound normally spelt with 'sh'. There is (or was) also something called "fruntimmers sje". And if you hear one of the news presenters of SVT (Katarina Sandström) speak, you will notice that her "sje" is something quite different from a southern Swedish one. To me, it sounds very elegant, but that's just me.

A thought! Preskriberat does not equal prescribed anymore, allthough I know google says so - that is not the meaning of it unless you live in the 50's. A prescription or something prescribed to you is called a "recept" or "ordinering" Usually from a doctor to pick up meds or do an activity. Preskriberat is a crime that has gone over the limitation period in 99% of the times someone uses that word. Great video!

@@lhulugren5309 The Mandarin Chinese sound at the start of 'Shanghai' doesn't really exist in English or Swedish.
