Living in Arizona Now

3 жыл бұрын

People are moving to Arizona in record numbers. Cities like Phoenix and Tucson are seeing a record surge in growth leading the nation. Most of the people moving to Arizona are living in Arizona with very little background information on some of the key things to know. In this Arizona visitor guide we discuss some things people just wont tell you about moving to Arizona.
#Arizona #MoveToArizona #LiveinArizona
Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. If you are thinking about moving to Arizona feel free to subscribe and check us out on our other channels.

I’ve never understood the lovefest with HOA’S that people in Arizona have. It’s like living under constant Tyranny and having people tell you what to do.

Can't speak for all neighborhoods in Az. Our HOA are a complete pain, but I'm glad they are there. Help keep order in our neighborhood, and the neighborhood watch have eyes like a hawk. You won't have to worry walking home after dark, just when you left your stupid trash bin after midnight🤣.
@Albanianguy9
@Albanianguy9 3 жыл бұрын
@@andreszavala9855 at what cost does that order come? It’s an additional tax on you man, on top of your property taxes. Most people also struggle to identify what they do with all that money. There’s order in my neighborhood too and we have no HOA!

Living in Gold Canyon, I LOVE the wildlife. There I was at night, sitting in my hot tub and I saw what looked like a huge cat walking along my wall. Hmm? What is that? Then I realized, holy smokes, that's a bob cat! It was a special moment, I have to say.

One thing about allergies, if you take an allergy medicine (Zyrtec, Claritin, etc), start taking it every day during allergy season. After 2 or 3 days, the allergies will lessen. I had gotten lax about it and the past week was pretty rough. Now that I've taken it daily for about a week, the allergies aren't nearly as bad.

One very rare thing that is never brought up in Arizona history,is that Clark County,Nevada was once part of the Arizona territory.Because of the Colorado River separating it from the rest of Arizona,Arizona gave that part of the Territory to Nevada,however,Nevada never acknowledged receiving it,so,technically it's "Las Vegas,Arizona",not Nevada(Kind of the same thing with the Statue of Liberty...It's not in New York,it's in New Jersey!)

I know 2 folks who died of valley fever in phx. Most folks who first move to az feel it for a month. They call it the crud. What most of it really is , is the ancient algea and dead life forms from the valley floor. I'm totally serious. It was a sea bed eons ago and the desert dust contains particles of ancient dead bio matter that had settled on the oceanic floor over millions of years .. kind of like a soft sedimentary layer. the remaining compounds give about 50% of new comers extreme sinus problems for the first month and then your nose kinda adapts... but.. it in some cases it actually creates small holes in the lungs. Almost like what quarry miners get from breathing rock dust. My step dad's sister in law DIED from it.

I was born in Mesa, AZ in 1959. I have lived here in the Phoenix valley for 62 years. The two absolute worst things about living in AZ, at least in the Phoenix area, is the EXTREME heat (yes, 120 degrees F is not uncommon for months at the time. I live in a 1000 sq. ft. house with a 5 ton A/C unit so I can keep it at 75 degrees in the summer and not burn up the A/C unit. The electric bill is absurd, but since you really can't do much of anything in that heat, you spend most of your money on the electric bill. Winters are short but really nice. The second thing is homeowners associations. If you come here and buy a new house, it will be in a homeowners association. It will be like living in North Korea, communist China, or nazi Germany. You have absolutely no rights or freedoms if you live in a homeowners association. I have been living in a smaller, older house in a very nice older neighborhood for the past 30 years or so, and love it. I build race cars and restore vintage cars in my back yard. Even thinking about doing something like that will get you immediately kicked out of a homeowners association. So if you are moving to AZ, and plan to buy a new house, think long and hard about whether you want to give up all of your rights and freedoms before buying into a homeowners association.

One alarming health concern that you don't here about living in AZ is the high incidence of Valleylley Fever or Coccidioidomycosis. This is a fairly common fungal infection that many people are not aware of. The fungal spores are found in the soil and in you breath on a good amount of them you may wind up with a ling infection which is difficult to treat. If your Elderly and here for the first time you do not want to get this potentially deadly infection. If it doesn't kill you it can leave you very debilitated for years. The incidence in AZ had been increasing and just recently the University of AZ in Tucson got federal funding to try and learn more about this disease. There is much more to say but if your new to the State make sure your talk to a health care provider about this

Even Mormon Lake is expensive. I've got a summer cabin out there and have been searching for another cabin, specifically one that would enable me to live there in the winter as well but they're hard to find and extremely expensive. The other caveat is that many of the dirt roads to the cabins don't get plowed during the winter.

@@betsyross1621I know right? I moved to San Diego from the Verde Valley a little over a year ago, and the average home price in my area is $750,000. San Diego is nice and has much to offer like beautiful beaches etc. but DAMN! It's too expensive here and the traffic is horrible as well lol. The Verde Valley, AZ is the best place to live in my humble opinion.

I lived in East San Diego County for 25 years. It wasn't that different than rural AZ. All that surfer stuff ends about 5 miles inland. 25 miles inland, it's horses, cows, & a lot of dirt roads. I didn't want to leave the county, but had to escape the state---just made it before the plague.(They also have rattlers, scorpions, cougars, bobcats, tarantulas and termites---just like AZ).

There are Spanish Missions that went all the way to San Francisco. Tumacacori Park has one that have the frescoes almost intact. Coronado park has the story and map of when the Spaniards were looking for gold. Lots of Spanish history in the south. The capitol museum in Phoenix has lots of great info and a replica of the USS Arizona with some memorabilia from the sunken ship.

Another thing they don’t tell you is if you are a marijuana user (medical or recreational) moving here from California, know that it costs almost double here compared to there. Government regulations mean much fewer dispensaries (and no illegal ones). Be sure to get a medical card, or you’ll be paying 24% federal tax on top of the outrageous prices. I thought I had everything figured out when I retired here, but this has shot my budget all to hell. Can no longer afford to medicate every day like I need to.

Couple more things: A: Heat kills car batteries. Expect to buy a new one about every three years if you live in the low desert areas (Phoenix, Yuma, etc…) B: Reverse ice cream headaches…this happens when you have to park far from your destination and you walk from your car in the 120 heat of Phoenix into a business that has their AC set at 62 degrees…. C: Get a white or light colored car and search out shaded parking. (See “B”) D: If you like Jack ‘N The Box fast food, you will be in heaven. There’s one every six blocks. Same with Pollo Loco… E: Frickin beautiful sunsets every, single, night!
