This is some things you can check yourself. The oil and coolant will tell you some things about the inside! The smoke from your stack will tell you some things also! But if you really want to know what's going on inside the motor get a dyno test done and get a oil sample from the truck and get it tasted for metal shavings!

Where do you send the oil samples and how long does it take for the results and how much it cost
@JosephArata5 жыл бұрын
@@B2BKwestion Chevron does oil samples, as does most of the other big Oil companies. You buy an oil sample kit, take a sample of the oil while the engine is at operating temperature with a bottle vacuum pump, or from the oil drain after you've waited for the crap in the bottom of the pan to come out. You fill out a sheet that comes with the kit, cap it up, stick it in the shipping container it comes with, add stamps, then chuck it in the mail. Usually 1-2 weeks after the sample has made it through the mail.

He's right about the oil in the coolant issue with the Detroit 60 series. If it has over 750,000 miles and hasn't been rebuilt yet, DEFINITELY check to see if there is oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil. I've rebuilt several in the last couple of months approaching 1M miles with rust pitted liners and head gasket leaks because the cylinder protrusion is too low. Most shops don't shim the liners anymore, so if you are due for the first rebuild on a Detroit 60 series, expect to have to have a counter bore milling and insert install done at the same time.

A dyno test doesn't mean they pressure check anything, just means they put the truck on the dyno to measure how much power to the rear wheels. I can't believe you didn't mention anything about checking blowby with the engine hot and running...... First thing I ever look at it will give you a good idea of the shape of the rings and how well the valves seal.

What he did is basic pretrip inspection. What he needed to do was pre-purchase inspection. He needed to check the DPF, S.C.R. Turbo, body frame, harness and so on. Not 5 dollar hose clamp. Also oil sample analysis is a good idea. He mention dyno test and that's good. It measure the amount of power the engine generate. Please don't tell people you don't need professional to do pre-purchase inspection. You need one yourself from what I saw you doing on this video.

Have them Throw in a new air dryer. And plumb the new air dryer with a bypass for when it does go bad. and replace it every year at your 12 month annual. Trust me. I use to work for a company they tested the oil every oil change at 18000 miles. Pull the air filters engine and cabin and see how clean it and the housing is.

Like turbo operation, egr valve operation, def system operation etc! You can probably take it to international if you are not buying the truck from international dealer!
