Turned 70 in August and after a couple of days of a downer developed a plan. My trusty 1.9tdi Golf had to go. I found a grey 2008 2.0i. 91k. Leather heated seats. Everything works , as does mine with a little care. Changed the plugs to find they were the original ones. 91k ! A joy to drive around town and a pleasure to lose the boy racers on roundabouts. l don`t have to brake. In years gone by - pre divorce - l have had all manner of two seaters but the Z4 kissed me on the lips on first meeting. I think l`m in love.

Thanks for the video. I have the 2.2i and while the performance is not exactly storming like I imagine the 3.0i is the sound of. that small six is great. It is a real character. The running costs are very high if you want to really iron out all the problems. I have really spent but the car is now really smooth. You are right you always get a smile on your face with this car and every journey is an old fashioned driving adventure.

Oh by the way the real killer on these cars is the roof motor. The hydro unit roof motor is a £500 part alone. This sits in a plastic drain well on the passenger side that gets blocked with tree litter, leaves etc. You need to check that the roof drains regularly by pouring water onto the drivers side to see if it drains below and scrupulously keep the roof fabric clean to avoid build up in the drain well. There is a drain well on each side. Some people I spoke to have replaced three motors (£1100 each time) (£2200 main dealer). Really recommend Munich Legends in Sussex for and repairs.

Been thinking of getting a Z4 for a few months, must be because I am now in my 50's and want some fun Lol. I know the cost of repairs will be higher and probably more frequent than if I just upgraded my current PUG 208 - 5 years old for a newer one say a 1-year-old car, but I look at it like this, if I upgrade to new it is going to cost thousands and be less fun for my budget, the Z4 could be brought for less than the value of my current car and will probably depreciate a lot less, maybe even gain price if I keep it long enough. The savings on not buying a new car and associated depreciation will more than offset the cost of keeping and restoring any of the issues I would get. I am lucky that jobs like changing a clutch, brakes, service and other general repairs are something that I have always been able to do my self :) Looking forward to owning one :) Think I have justified leaving my wife and daughter at home while I have a little driving fun on the weekend ;)

Gotta say my biggest complaint is the headlights on dip. They are really really bad. This era of SUVs shining the 2 Xenon glowing orbs of death on badly adjusted dip causes me to emergency brake constantly. I upgraded to the brightest Halfords had to offer and it made very little difference. The lights are so low they go nowhere so driving at night at 60mph when there is any oncoming traffic on a b-road is a pipe dream. Full beams are good but the contrast between the two ruins your night vision for minutes. Luv and Peace.
