I'm definitely relocating to Nevada, next year; currently debating between Reno and Las Vegas. Las Vegas has a slightly lower cost of living, but Reno has that PNW feel and more of that small town feel with all four seasons. Gaming is available in both metro areas, and both have 24/7 bars, shops, restaurants etc. Reno is the superior when it comes to Education and Healthcare, and those are very important to me. I also like the fact that Reno doesn't typically get as beastly hot as Vegas does. The combination of a smaller population and a growing economy, compared to Vegas's nearly 2 million people, it seems that Reno is the better option for me. Another great thing about Reno is that it's got a growing agriculture scene going on.

Lived out in Reno, they need more housing. Look into moving to somewhere like fernley, and for me being a Floridian the cold was just too much for me, felt like it stayed cold most of the year. it’s cool place to make new friends and go and do some cool stuff, plenty of jobs, Vegas is a 6 hour drive away or an hour plane ride. Fun city I just hate the cold and I feel like the city feels isolated tho

It's a shame that Reno doesn't have a professional sports team.

Can you use a wood burning fireplace and have a outdoor fire pit? And how about shooting trap, skeet, sporting clays etc. What about smoging your cars?
@LivinginRenoNevada
@LivinginRenoNevada 3 ай бұрын
You can use a wood burning fireplace and have an outdoor fire pit. The wood burning fireplace would have to have meet certain criteria. Smog is required annually and shooting clay pigeons is also an option. Carson City has a great course that I highly recommend. Spanish Springs also has an amazing shooting facility, whether you're shooting pistols or long rifles.

Trying to decide between Reno and Vegas for retirement. Maybe a comparison video would be good, in collaboration with an agent from Vegas area so we can get the view from both sides.

I've lived in both cities for 6 months each for work. I got to know people who live and work in both areas. Vegas is good for people who are more stationary. There's a ton of luxurious lazy activities and high end restaurants. If you want to sit around on your rear end and be catered to in every possible way ,Vegas is for you. There's an active crowd in Vegas but there's less to do and the weather there is more of an obstacle. I'm in San Diego now and the outdoors activities were not enough for me in Vegas. They have the best bars and women with loose morals though. That's saying something when compared to a Navy base city like SD. Las Vegas is turning into Los Angeles. So if you're like me and you don't like LA, move somewhere else or live on the outskirts of town. Reno is great for the true outdoors man. Fishing, boating, water skiing, and all things lake related thrive in the Reno Metro area. Not just at Lake Tahoe as there are many to choose from. There's also the Truckee River and the Tahoe National Forest. You could spend your entire retirement exploring the beautiful Sierra Nevada wilderness. Houses are more expensive in Reno and it's less of a boom and bust market from what i can see. It snows in Reno and they just had a big winter. So if that bothers you it's Vegas all the way.

@@JeffScott-1978 - I would say you nailed majority of it. Bottom line, when it comes down to it, the Sierra Nevada's offer every outdoor activity you can think of. We get all 4 seasons, but Summer is not too drastic, and the Winter usually doesn't drop feet of snow... although this past winter was one for the record books. Nothern Nevada is the place to be, no getting around it. Call, text, email us!!!

We have some wind from time to time and some areas are worse than others. We don't have a lot of forest fires in Reno, but we do get smoke from time to time due to forest fires in CA.

Definitely a tougher price point, but I would recommend looking in Fernley and possibly Cold Springs. May be pushing the $300k price point, but your dollar goes further out there.
