They get clogs in the base of the tube by the rotating brush. If you don't have a long curved tweezers, you have to unscrew some parts to get the tube out so you can pull out that clog.

It's telling that bagged vacuums are making a slow but steadily increasing return to the budget market - and never left the high-end (Kirby, for one).

First thing to remember, like your dryer's lint trap, the sponge filter has to be cleaned every time. Does your vacuum do the thing where it sounds like it lost a lot of suction? It's the sponge filter. Take it out and wash all the dust on it. It'll run like new again.

I had two of these vacuums, both completely lost suction after a couple of months. Piece of junk vacuum. Not a huge fan of Dirt Devil, though I think their hand-held vacuums are really good, but I'm not really a fan of any of their upright vacuums.
