For those wondering. Another difference between the t14 and t14s is that the t14s only has solderd Memory while the t14 has an additoinal SoDimm slot.

@‌ Well...I only got to use it for a day before I had to send it back to lenovo for repair. Some issue with windows that I could not seem to fix myself. It was not even possible to format the computer. Windows completely froze. Now its fixed, and on its way back to me again. But I really liked it the day I got to use it. Really wish it was a 16:10 display though. I got the UAE display, wich does have poor response times and a little ghotsing. But colors are good. Overall performane is amazing. REally fast and snappy computer. Very light weight too.

@@myleswolfe5139 The T14s has soldered RAM only. Didnt know there was a 8Gb option. I would just get the 16 or 32gb. You cannot upgrade ram later. If not you can get the T14 which has a ram slot.

I think next year is going to be very exciting as I believe almost all of the major laptop vendors will offer a AMD option for their premium laptops...also is the next gen version of USB going to be available soon-ish that will offer all the speed of Thunderbolt. Also will be interesting to see what Apple can pull off with their own ARM chips in Macbooks. It's getting interesting in 2021 (hopefully without Covid19). I'm jussayin.....

Just want to point out, the SSD in T14s (AMD) is slowed down by Lenovo. My T14s came with 1 TB Western Digital SSD which was meant to give me 3500/3100 (read/write respectively) after reading the specification. Performing several Crystal disk mark tests, I found out that the SSD only gave around 1660/1400 (read/write respectively). 2 other people have also reported the same problem on reddit. This could be the reason why the odd results on importing SQL database.

What it needs is a 1920x1200 display more than a higher resolution one. Thinkpads always had taller screens, actually, 4:3 would be ideal, but with so many manufacturers now using 16:10, it would be more cost effective than 16:12.

Another very informative review. Thank you! I just priced out the Thinkpad X13 AMD with this T14s AMD with same specs (AMD Ryzen 7 4750U, 16GB DDR4, 128GB SSD (don't upgrade to the larger hard drive from Lenovo. Buy a Samsung 512GB NVme SSD from Amazon for under $100 and swap it out), 500nits FHD IPS with Privacy Screen, WiFi 6, Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint Reader and IR/720fps Camera. The T14s priced at $1687 and the X13 came in at $1378. The only difference between the 2 laptops is that the T14s is a touch screen and X13 is not. Oddly the X13 Intel variant does come with a touchscreen option. Too bad the X13 Yoga (same specs as X13 but with touchscreen) only comes in the Intel variant - no AMD.

I heard that there is a potential performance issue with Ryzen 4000 series processors and high latency LPDDR4 rams as present in some notebooks. I guess the days are over finding refurbished thinkpads under $300, transferring $250 worth of hardware and ending up with what would have been a new 1500 machine... I was wondering what the T series fanbase would recommend if I started down the path of a new laptop I can service and upgrade...?

It's like Lenovo offers a race car processor with inadequate tyres.... For this model, in Lenovo's website, in 'customize' section, the max available memory is 16 GB. Once they added a 32 GB option, I will be interested. Even my mobile phone has more memory...

Would you say the 4500u version of this is overkill for regular everyday use? It's meant to be a replacement for my SFFPC desktop since I will be moving abrod soon and want more portability. I'm looking for a good all-rounder (browsing, translation work, medium gaming) and I too remember how good Thinkpads were. Would an IdeaPad be better value or is this a good enough upgrade to justify the 300/400€ difference?

Why do you describe the audio is a downside on this laptop? Speakers are very important to me as I am using screen readers all the time, could you please let me know what’s the problem in the audio of that laptop?
@deep_spaghetti
@deep_spaghetti 3 жыл бұрын
@@nohafouad7916 it only has downfiring speakers (as compared to front firing speakers in the T14 or newer carbon X1 models), and apparently they also aren't all that great. It may be worth to wait for the next generation of X1 carbons hopefully equipped with the new intel 11th gen processors as I find those to be a more appealing product in general, but this is for nitpicking reasons more than anything else. But if audio quality is really important to you, I'd suggest you get an X1C.

If it helps, switching to 5.8 kernel seems to fix all issues with graphics and sleep that some people had on lower kernels. Yoga Slim 7 runs great on Arch and I don't have any issues (my comments from another thread are related to that setup).

I'm assuming you did specifically enable Hardware Acceleration for encoding (it's in a different spot than for playback/rendering acceleration). If so, it's kinda dissapointing. It seems Intels Quick Sync is used by Premiere much better than AMD during encoding/exporting. Other vids do seem to show Davinci Resolve times being about the same with Ryzen and Intel for exporting so that would be great to see a comparison there. I managed to pick up the Ideapad 5 14 4700u before it went out of stock again but will do 1080p editing at most so it should still be sufficient for that.

And the only option that I liked was some Asus Vivobook, which was mostly good and probably similar to the Ideapad 5, but lacks configurable RAM.

I have two main problems: a huge overheating problem (Yes it performs blazingly fast, but will also throttle hard and run into it’s 105°C thermal limit) and only lasts for 3.5 hours (just browsing). My model: 35.56 cm (14.0") Full-HD IPS matt (1920 x 1080, 400nits), AMD Ryzen™ 7 PRO 4750U OctaCore (1.70 bis 4.1 GHz), 1TB NVMe-SSD, 32GB RAM, AMD Radeon™ RX Vega 7 Grafik shared, IR-Webcam I am really considering to sent this back.
