I'm running a Thinkpad T430 upgraded to i7-3610QM, 16GB DDR3 , SSD m-SATA, 1600x900 display + eGPU (Radeon RX 580 + EXP GDC EC2) and it runs beautiful in 2018.

Hows the ventilation, Doesn't it gets hottt or like its a 45TDP CPU. How are you managing the heat lol. I live in a country where average room temperature is 30 to 35. Will it work well??

The T440p can be upgraded and run some modern games on high settings Skyrim on Ultra older game but tons of mods in mune. it has an optional GPU GeForce GT730M 1gb Dedicated as mine does with Core i7 4910mq quad core, HyperX 16GB 2133MHz DDR3L does work at speed with this processor I'm using a 512gb M.2 sata drive for gaming and run GTAV on high graphics, still working good in June 2020......FYI love the video

I still use my T430 but it is always on a docking station with an external 24inch DELL monitor. I have it set up to run Windows 10 and Linux and use the Lenovo Trackpoint II keyboard which is great. I will upgrade to more memory and SSD to increase the speed sometime in the future, but for now it is fine. Since I also have 2 MacBook Pro's I use one of those for portable computer.

I have had two T20s, three T40s, and two T60s (IBM and Lenovo) and loved every one of them. I still hang onto one old T40. None of them ever broke down on me mechanically... Rugged. I was always able to keep them running somehow. Biggest problem always turned out to be the fan, but easy and cheap to replace.

I just upgraded to one of the higher spec'ed T530 model. I went with the dedicated NVidia card and larger screen model since I am a photographer. Huge upgrade from the E545.

IPS panels with the included converter modules are now available for T430 in aliexpress
@JonMatcho3 жыл бұрын
I did the 1920x1080 upgrade, and then attempted to do 2560x1440 with another panel and converter with no luck. I'm done trying at this point. The 1920x1080 IPS is more than enough.

I want to get one as a "thrashing laptop" that I can use separate from my gaming PC. Something I can use anywhere around the house as well as some light gaming (CS 1.6, Quake 3)

I find myself rather obsessed with ThinkPads, especially T series too. Perhaps due to my sentimentality with their LED ThinkLight & legacy Windows OS such as WinXP & Win98. Great vid. Sister. Keep it up.

Actually, 6. (I have a Thinkpad addiction: X230 running windows, x230 running linux, T440p, T430, and plan to sell a T430s (my first Thinkpad) and an x230t. I will probably get rid of the T430 as well)

Do you follow the thinkpad subreddit? Its pretty awesome and a bunch of us enthusiasts are on there. Though I wouldn't reccomend it if you want to spare your wallet since you'll just end up wanting to buy more thinkpads like I did. Great vid!

I definitely read multiple posts which led to my purchases of the T430s, then the X230, X230t, T430 and finally T440p. I have banned myself from reading further posts, for the sake of my wallet. I am very happy with my collection and grateful to all you enthusiasts who guided me with your posts!

I have a T430 that I've upgraded the display to an IPS 1920x1080, the CPU to an i7-3612QM (to keep at 35W), 16GB, SSDs, and retrofitted the T420 classic keyboard. PerformanceTest tells me it's faster than a comparable T440p with an i7-4712MQ (37W). I do miss the backlit keyboard a bit, and the aftermarket T420 classic keyboard is not as I recall they were (I have another T420 classic keyboard on order). I use it as my daily and have no problems with even heavy apps. Still, if I had a T440p I'd just have max'd that out.

The i7-4712 is 3% faster than the i7-3612
@JonMatcho3 жыл бұрын
@@dragunovbushcraft152 it appears faster than that according to user benchmarks. I was wrong about my CPU anyway, it had a 3632, not a 3612. I just upgraded that to an i7-3840QM which is 13% faster than the i7-4712QM (at a cost of 8W). www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-3612QM-vs-Intel-i7-3632QM-vs-Intel-i7-4712MQ-vs-Intel-i7-3840QM/892vs1480vs2228vs900

Nice video. However there are SIGNIFICANT differences between the two. First, the T440p has a 4thGen CPU, compared to the T430 having a 3rd Gen CPU. The T440p, is superior in every way. I play all kinds of games on my T440p with the HD-4600 on board graphics. Indeed, the HD 4600 graphics are a "sweet spot" for lots of games. The HD-4000, not so much. I own four, T440p ThinkPads, Three of which, have the nVidia GT730m, Two, T430's and a T430s. All of them are i7, The T440p is MORE than adequate for 98% of any computing needs. Only high end gamers will be disappointed. In that case, get an MSI. Otherwise, the T440p is GREAT for medium gaming, especially if you have the nVidia GT730m graphics. The T430 is no slouch! Run it with Win8.1Pro, Classic Shell, an SSD, and 16gbRAM, and it turns in to a little speed beast! With nVidia NVS 5400m graphics, it will play games decently enough.

Thank you so much for your EXCELLENT real world info regarding gaming performance of these devices. I don't do any gaming, so that aspect is always missing when I discuss Thinkpads. Your input was much needed and appreciated. I also love the T440p over the T430 and T430s. Especially after I upgraded to an IPS screen. Have you tried playing games on the T430 with an eGPU? According to forums, it is possible. This would be helpful to those who have a T430 with only the HD4000 graphics, and can't get a T440p.
@dragunovbushcraft1525 жыл бұрын
@@kravmama1 No, never played with an eGPU. Expensive, can't utilize most of the features of the external card, takes up desk space, too many cables. I have a T430s, with a quad core i7, and nVidia NVS 5200m graphics/16gb RAM and an SSD. A lot less trouble than hooking up an eGPU, and it gets the job done.:)

Is non fullHD resolution problem with any of these 2 for running Windows 10 on it?
@911Salvage5 жыл бұрын
That will depend on the applications you use on a daily basis. But, in general, you shouldn't have any problem as long as you have at least 1600x900 pixels of screen real estate. In fact 1600x900 on a 14" screen, in my opinion, is easier on the eyes than 1920x1080.
@JonMatcho3 жыл бұрын
@@911Salvage That's what scaling is for. Resolution can be off the charts but you can still scale fonts to be readable. Windows 10 is almost "there" with this ability, having been much improved these past few years.
