This was WAY(!!!!!) helpful. No stupid music, you can talk clearly, you don't get side tracked while talking, you have those nifty yellow boxes to show where we should be looking, ( though I think highlighter orange would be better than yellow) and then you do it all backwards. All in all this was great. Thank you.

Things that this video doesn't mention: While you are performing this upgrade, you can also do a couple of extra, maintenance tasks: 1.You can and should clean the internal fan, with a can of compressed air ideally. Remove and dust. You can also use a brush with very fine hairs for the fan blades. Second, you can remove the heatsink from the CPU, wipe off any thermal paste that is on it and replace with a fresh stripe of liquid silver thermal paste on the CPU as a preventative maintenance.

I like the extended runtime battery that's in this video. It's beefier than the battery that came with my laptop, so I'm sure it pretty much doubles your work hours between recharges.

I have a T450s, and this video is really helpful. When removing the bottom cover one of the clips at a corner was difficult to detach. I had to use more force. In the end the memory upgrade was successful. I now have the full 20G of memory! Thanks for posting the video.

Glad to be of assistance. Clips can vary in tightness from system to system and sometimes they can be a real pain even if you're experienced. Luckily spudgers are dirt cheap and can be attained easily through Amazon. I'd highly recommend keeping some around if you work on computers frequently.

I think that maybe his T450 had 4GB of ram soldered to the motherboard and 2 slots (8GB each) thats how he got 20GB

@@Hunter-wv4ui depends on your motherboard, if it have 2 ram slots, then just add another 8gb stick. if it only have 1 ram slot like in this video, you need to buy a 16gb ram stick and replace current 8gb ram stick.

Since internal battery's disable in bios before opening the unit, why do you show disconnecting its cable? Is that really needed? I guess not.. Anyone reply! ;)

If you disable the battery in BIOS, you do not need to disconnect the battery to replace the memory. However, it is recommended to disconnect the battery as s safety precaution. We disconnect it in the video in the case that a customer does not or cannot disable the battery in BIOS.

I should have looked up and viewed this BEFORE doing my upgrade, lol. I just went ahead and did my upgrade without all of the "extra" steps... seems to have worked out fine so far, but who knows what I've messed up...

Things I did not do: Turn off internal battery in BIOS, remove sim tray with sim card, disconnect and later reconnect power on the system motherboard... All I did is power down the system (shut down), remove external battery, remove the cover, remove installed ram and swap it for the new ram, replace cover and battery, plug in and start up. Everything seemed to go fine.

Help. Ever since I did this my internal battery no longer works. It says "no battery connected" for battery 1 in windows 10. Any help is appreciated thanks.

+Numerials NA Did you remember to reconnect the internal battery cable before putting the cover on? The other thing you could do is check the BIOS via the instructions at the beginning of the video and make sure that the internal battery is enabled.

[FIXED, DETAILS BELOW] Hello, I recently upgraded my Thinkpad T450 from 8GB to 16 GB Dual Channel Kit. When I start up the laptop it shows me a black screen. Is it because of the connections or it might be a hardware problem? Thank you. Edit: In case if someone has the same problem just reseat or reinstall the ram couple of times: it took me 6-8 times until booted. Just try until it works and if it does not, it might be issues with the motherboard or possibly from the cpu.

I currently have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440. Id like to upgrade the memory; however when I did an initial scan for the type of memory on crucial.com, it only shows I've got 1 slot. Is the onboard not being detected? Or is my T440 is only depended on that one slot that currently has 4GB of ram and the max ram upgrade is 8GB? Hi @RoamTek ! Thanks for writing in. Upon checking the built-in parts of your Thinkpad T440, it shows that it doesn't have an onboard 4GB Memory. No sir, the cover is considered by Lenovo to be a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU). Removing the cover would not void your warranty.

The ThinkPad T440 only has one socket for memory. Additionally it has 4GB of memory soldered onto the system board.

Your ThinkPad T440s came configured with either Intel HD Graphics which the graphics components are integrated/soldered to the system board, so not upgradeable, by adding another graphics card. Mac_Lenovo

You would need to use a 16GB stick to upgrade to a total of 20GB

As far as the manufacturer specifications indicate, the T450s only supports up to a maximum of 16GB of RAM. So it would essentially be useless to upgrade it to 20GB of RAM. Save the money and just upgrade it to 16GB.

Thank you for those details. Upon checking, the motherboard for this model only has one 204-pin SO-DIMM socket. This only means that it is already being occupied by the existing 4GB RAM. How do I know if my T440 accepts only 8 gigs or 12 gigs? And what type of ram do I buy? I see DDR3 or DDR3L online. My T440 currently only has 4 GB and opening chrome takes most of that away. So I am thinking about buying a RAM and upgrading it.

@@coolmanu55 I know 11 month old, but someone else might be interested. Answer to your question is NO. T450 does NOT accept nvme drives, you will need a M.2 2242 drive

I added two 8GB sticks to my T450, but now the laptop won't start the Windows boot up process after the laptop is turned on.

Possibly a bad stick. Try and boot it with each stick individually.

Yes sir. The T440 has 1 DIMM socket and then a bank of RAM next to it that is soldered to the system board. The T450 has 2 DIMM sockets.

okay. I think the T440s has the soldered on RAM, but the standard T440 doesn't have soldered RAM, just the single DIMM socket. Can you confirm?

KingAndrew5000 I stand corrected. You are right the T440 has no soldered RAM and one DIMM socket. The machine in the video is a T440s.

I own the T450S i7 version so to avoid confusion - It is limited to 20gb ram whereas T450 (non-touch screen) can have up to 32gb ram. The T450 has two DIMM slots whereas the T450S i7 has 4gb soldered and 1 dimm slot. If I could go back in time I'd of gotten the T450 instead since I have the T450S docking all the time BUT I do love the touch screen when I'm on the road and want to quickly move content, or I'm reading a PDF and scroll/zoom in with my fingers etc

T420 best! Easy to change RAM and HDD to SSD! I am a lenovo fanboy! Please and don't use windows on a Lenovo Thinkpad :-)

Hi... have a cuestion... the model T450s maximun RAM is 12GB but only have one slot, that mean if I install a card 16gb memory, then work with 12GB only? or not working at all?

No, the hard disk drive and memory are considered customer replaceable units. Replacing them will not void your warranty.

Thanks for answer me. One more thing my t450 comes with 16gb of m2 ssd and i like to do a upgrade on this device. My question is what is the model i need purchase to work without problem? I want upgrade to instal the OS (Windows 7) on m2 ssd, is possible? Did u understood my toughs?

And this is one of the main reasons why I always buy ThinkPads. The others are: a) great keyboard, b) they run Linux flawlessly. Very happy with my T450.
