@B W i hopp it a diesel because only diesel can run without a batterie or power diesel dont have spark plugs to fire the pistons so if you start them they will go on unlike gasoline engines i drove home my little 2007 corsa diesel home one time and my batterie died on the way so i needet to go 12km without power (no tacho, no power breaks, no power sterring, no power windows fu i dont thing i had break lights :/ )

I had a volvo 240 ones. The blower motor was broken, and I accidentally ended up in the ditch because of all the moisture on my windshield. My volvo plowed trough several bushes. A tractor pulled me out of the ditch. I had to reattache the door trim on one side. Otherwise the car was fine. Not a single scratch on it.

Lots of W123s especially the diesel-engined ones have been known to easily hit 1 million km with just regular maintenance. You can still find a few them in the Middle East and in Africa where I live. Your data is correct, but it refers to all Toyota Corolla generations since 1966 to date. Don’t get me wrong Toyotas are fantastic and dependable cars. I own one.

They probably did it because the left taillight was always pitch - black because of the exhaust - fumes. Burnt oil...

i went there lot´s of times ,i live 500 km from marocco, they have resorts that have very nice conditions along the coast line ,that are very good to surf or windsurf, this in the 90´s or 80´s ,but the most mercedes that i saw were 500SEL ,the 80´s version by the dozens all automatic gear box (in bad shape)this in early 90´s .Somehow all were wrecked in the driver side from one end to another (this talking about the body),till today i never understood the reason for that, normally is the other side and not all,and not from the front to the back, and the roads(?)(most of them only gravel) when you drive to the mountains sometimes on the horizon you see a dust cloud , it gives time for you to drive to the side of the road ,but far or when the mercedes(it was a w123) that drives through will never reduce the speed and will project a shower of gravel, a friend of mine had just bought a new renault diesel and didn´t get off the road so the right panels and front and right windows were filled with holes ,those guys that you say "get out of there" and they being the first time he drove there ,he replied "he has to stop the car" so a new renault to the garbage(well,they all are garbage),regards (sorry if my english is confusing,i´m portuguese)

Yes and no, morrocan taxis use the 240D because of better consume numbers and more durable gearbox. My grandpa buyed one 240D w123 in 1984 and started to use it as a taxi in Tangier the chasis is over 1.4M km and it only rebuilded the engine two time (every 450K km) and change it when it took 1.1M km. This model is a beast, the 2.4l and 3.0l diesel engines from the W123 are the best diesel engine ever made.

@@shonemumy sadly it´s just a dream ,my father either than working in a bank,sold used cars ,since late 70´s till late 90´s i had in front of my house 20 to 30 cars ,so i tested every golf model since the first one,they were great but not that resistant to the passage of time ,i did owned 4 or 5 ,don´t get me wrong i liked every golf that came out ,but there were problems , the gear box was (manual, automatic in my country never saw one)a common problem to all series , with the passage of years some problems started to appear ,normally every series had a problem ,and rust was the end of it , they were nice cars but not comparable with mercedes,if you retrocess some years the known "bug or beatle" was a incredible machine ,in africa they were incredible ,this in the 60´s , the landrovers used to get stuck in the jungle ,my grandfather was called almost everyday to retrive them with a VW1300 ,that still was driven by my grandmother in the late 90´s this in lisbon (Portugal)where the traffic is wild at some hours of the day and night till she died with 96 years old,never had an accident, now is rotting in the backyard of my house(the car, not my grandmother), but again the mercedes were the best in the jungle ,the unimog truck with the 230 engine it was able to climb 90 degrees (natural)walls in the jungle , it was the main vehicle used by the portuguese army in the war on africa, regards

I hope you can get the hoses, if not, you can send them to a hardware store, after you have the metal coupling, they manufacture the hose, either transmission to the radiator or power steering pump or to the conduit of oil that go from the oil filter to the oil radiator and return. And when you go to turn it on after a long time I recommend: First of all, I recommend adjusting valves, on the internet there is the valve adjustment diagram for om616 and om617 motors, it is the same for the two motors, only to omit the 5 cylinder; you can do it yourself, if you do not have the 14 "keys you can make them by molding 2 long keys of 14" which is what I did. 2: I recommend you buy a good battery that goes from 850 Amp on, no less than that, if it is 1000 Amp would be better. 3: Clean all the negative terminals in the chassis and in the motor for a better flow of electricity in the starting system and also in the charging system (crucial and indispensable) 3: That the starter is in good condition (it is essential for these engines as they are low compression engines) you can disassemble yourself and change the internal brushes that over time wear out and do not perform the same doing a poor turn of the engine and more likely not to turn on. If in such case this is turning well, leave it like this. 3: Indispensable to have good glow plugs for the ignition; It is also important to have all contacts of the glow plug system clean and without corrosion for a good flow of electricity in the system. 4: Make sure the diesel is reaching the injectors without any air pollution in the injection system and start until it turns on hahaha xD 5: And if it does not turn on having done all of the above, I recommend using ether 3 or 4 times and if that still does not turn on, something I have done but I do not recommend, only in case of emergency is to connect 2 batteries in series to create 24V in the ignition system or connect a 24V battery but first you have to disconnect the alternator and disconnect the glow plugs system to not run the risk of burning the system, but you feed the glow plug system independently putting a positive cable from the positive pole of the battery in the positive pole of the first glow plug, important in this procedure you must be very careful because you have to connect all the positive and negative terminals very well, otherwise they will be soldered or melted creating sparks and damaging the batteries that is to create a headache :( I hope it is helpful and that you give your friend Benz another life, he will thank you and with these first 4 maintenance tips his friend always start as new :) regards! @idontcare80 170 lb-ft of torque is quite a bit more than modern 4-cylinder NA engines. My 300D would smoke a honda fit (not something many people would brag about haha). After looking up the numbers, 300D turbos have more torque than 2019 civics, imprezas, corollas... They certainly keep up just fine with modern traffic.

I have owned more than 80 vehicles in my lifetime. Some fine German cars, and many American and Asian sleds, and trucks. This was one at the very top for reliability, and comfort.

Still have mine but needs a good engine overhaul before I put her back on the road. Looking for a rebuilt is difficult to find.
