When I picked up the Master Piece Arms Defender, I wasn’t expecting much. I figured it would be a hard-to-shoot, quirky gun that would give me some laughs.
I'm an AmmoSexual, so I love every gun to some degree.
Boy, was I wrong.
Instead of being a personal inside joke of a gun, I walked away from shooting the Master Piece Arms Defender with the biggest smile on my face.
It’s such an easy gun to shoot, and it's enjoyable.
Never in a million years did I think that this gun would be so delightful to shoot, but it did, and now, after you watch this video, you'll know exactly why.

In my years I've found the middle tier of everything is where I'm comfortable. Whether it's guns, guitars, cars, or anything else, there's a ceiling you hit where returns diminish and the item becomes a vanity piece. Of course I'd buy something full auto if I could afford it, but that's a whole other can of worms where you're not even getting master craftsmanship haha

We had a class 3 m11 in the 90s. Took nice cheap sten gun mags. Spring and buffer replaced to get it up to 1400rpm. Actually near 100% reliable. And it was decently accurate because, being class 3, you could put the wire stock on it. Instead of one round per trigger pull, it was definitely one mag per trigger pull.

I bought it for the nostalgia honestly. It is a huge conversation starter and when we visit outdoor ranges the guys always want to take it for a spin. It does scare the shit out of RSO’s though. They automatically assume it’s full auto and we came to spray some shit up.

I have two of the MPA Defenders. I have the full sized and the 'Micro', both chambered in 9mm, and you are correct! They are fun to shoot. Not the most accurate unless you learn the 'fixed' sights and do a bit of 'tapping' them into zero. I like the counter balancers, because they eliminate a lot of rise when you fire a round downrange. You should practice 'Bump firing' them and sending them into burst or full auto mode. It's really easy to do with the MPA Defender, and I enjoy doing it at least once while on the range.

Some things to add. The magazine springs loosen up over time, at first it's hard to get in more than 20 but after leaving them loaded in between range trips and maybe 8 or 10 uses... I can now get 34 in each mag by hand. The springs can get kinda bound up or snagged inside the mag while shooting and that causes the failure to feed issue we saw here. A little spray lube inside the mag helps that a lot. A quick fix for if it happens is just the old slap and rack. Finally... If you want to avoid the mag issue completely you have 2 option.. Use metal sten mags Or... MPA also offers this handgun in a version that accepts Glock mags. Lastly... The faux suppressor has another function Mr noir failed to mention. If you elect to use the faux suppressor as a forward grip... it becomes very very easy to bump fire this bad boy. Merry Christmas.

I want one! Reminds me of an old Cobray M-11/9. They are stamped steel with crude sights, but surprisingly, they point shoot naturally for me. The mags they use aren't so great either, but when they work, they are fun to shoot. I wonder if this is the same design. Looks very similar.

I have one, and it’s best shot from the hip, for real. After practice it’s totally intuitive, great for an Alamo gun. And it practically sprays in three- shot bursts. Its a decent machine pistol, and it throws the 9mm rounds pretty good.

Here's some info for someone thinking about getting this firearm. The MPA30T will not feed JHP reliably, but you can use other types of defensive ammunition; I have used soft point ammo as well as the G9 Defense External Hollow Point ammo without any issues. You can use the metal STEN gun magazines with a small modification to the magazine themselves. They're a lot more reliable and, in my personal opinion, they make the gun look much better. Also, you can change the grip to use Glock mags if that's what you prefer. It is incredibly easy to bump-fire this firearm. Many people will say not to do this, but at some point or another, you won't be able to keep yourself from doing it.

I've compared the two actually. I concur about the aesthetic, but the new ones do have much nicer sights that you can actually adjust, and the rear attachment points are pretty handy too. Did you know there's an even newer version that accepts Glock mags?

@@chriswimble3466 I have seen those but honestly I purchased this one purely for aesthetic reasons. For example, mine comes with a fake suppressor. If I could not find a model that looked exactly like something out of Grand theft Auto or a cheesy 90 movie, I would simply not be interested. It's the same reason I purchase a Mossberg 590 bullpup, so I could recreate RoboCop 2 lol

Had any trouble with yours? Most people say no but have low round count. I had two of the five seven versions. Both broken in under a thousand rounds. I cant remember exactly what it was, maybe a factory pressed bushing or front trunnion, whatever it was I remember that I didn't want to try and fix it. Both guns same failure. I never abused them or bumpfiring, nothing like that. First one I thought maybe a lemon so I traded it in and got another, after the same problem with the second I traded it for the 9. Its too bad because it was really accurate with a red dot. So easy to blow the bullseye out. I just couldn't recommend the 5.7 version after that dual identical failure. Haven't had any trouble with the 9 tho.

I bought a Masterpiece arms mini MAC 10 about 17 yrs ago. I bought 4 of those mags plus a 10 Rd mag. I eventually bought a single point sling along with the side cocker. The sling works pretty good for stabilizing it. I can even carry it concealed with the sling and the 10 Rd mag under a coat. I definitely got the loader. I like it. I think of it as a last resort gun before I have to use the Glock. I was in highschool in the early 80's and saw them in the movies and of course Miami Vice. If they still sell the mini MAC 10, try one out.

As an owner of a transferable/stamped original RPB Mac 10 in 9mm. The original safety is much more usable than that one. It shoots from open bolt position. So accuracy in simiauto is sub par. 50yds on steal becomes difficult. Bullet weight effects cycle rate. 115gr around a 1000rpms. 147gr over 1200rpms and the mags cant keep up. I have no problems getting 32 rounds in the mag without any tools. And if you think Colion is having fun in this video. With the wire stock out and original Mac suppressor on. And you go for a ride and empty the mag in 2 seconds. Junior will be standing at attention with his one good eye looking up at you. I have yet to meet a gun that was not fun to shoot. Smoke pole to fullauto. NDR

Why do you think so? In full auto, it's an open bolt smg, which means the trigger isn't even a functioning part of the gun at that point and pulls down out of the way of the bolt so it moves freely to cycle back and forth. There is absolutely no trigger slap in these at all. ZERO-NONE-NADA-ZILCH.

The MAC 10 finally found it's niche as an electric airsoft SMG platform, still iconic and actually useable with 6mm plastic BB's. The MAC 11 airsoft variants actually have gas blow back of the open bolt that makes them really fun with co2 or propane propellant for the BB's. You can also still purchase a FA MAC 10 in .45 from a private seller but it takes a long time to get the licensing to legally own them and a good suppressor (Years of red tape tax stamps) ($10,000 package these days if not more) not to mention how expensive it is to actually run subsonic pistol ammo with the high rate of fire and finding a range that actually allows FA etc.
