Dude....i have this camera since 2018... Picked it up for $20. Paired it with 50mm stm and it really has that canon filmic colours. I still use it once in a while because it's really fun to use. Its called the 350D in my country.

I bought this same camera (350D) for my daughter a couple of months ago, for her to learn the basics. 35 Euros with all it shipped originally with, box included (which is weird for a such an old camera), the original owner was a very careful pal.

it was my first camera back in the days, i kind of agree about nice vibe in pictures from old cameras, not i shoot mostly with 1Ds3 and 1D4 from that era and they are nuts, far more enjoyable experience than 5D4 or EOSr

I shot a lot of history with this camera--lots of pics that got published worlwide including the only pics of the team that transported the Ebola patients. I shot world leaders with the camera and even traveled for a while as Ollie North's tour photog--shot it all with this camera. Great image quality, responsive camera and you could buy a handgrip for it. I still have it and only recently stoppe carrying it as a backup.

If you know what you're doing, this camera still do the job in broad day light, especially if you publish on social media. Is still very capable and I consider it half way between a film and a digital camera. Plus, the Canon colors are really nice. Definitely worth trying. A good way to slow down your workflow, which is clearly helpful.

I picked this up from a thrift store for $30 last year. Had the kit lens with it. It was my first ever DSLR and my first foot into larger format (relative to smartphones) photography. Paired with great glass this camera can still take great shots as long as ur shooting raw.

I bought this camera years ago with 2 lenes for like 40 bucks, it's a capable camera though the ISO performance is crap, it is overall great as my first set into interchangeable lenses.

I shot with this for 12 years. It's a great camera. The dynamic range is nothing compared to modern sensors. But shooting raw it's excellent. I have several 20x40 prints that look great on my wall.

I bought this camera when it was new. It was my first interchangeable lens camera and I learned a lot with it. Sometimes, I’ll pull up an old RAW file from that camera, edit it knowing what I know now, and end up with great results, which really speaks to how good it captures images.

I bought this camera brand new in 2007 for my very first photography class. It served me well but I'd NEVER recommend anyone buy this in 2022. It's fine for learning if all you have is $50 and some pocket lint but you'll QUICKLY outgrow it since the only shots it can reliably capture have to be well lit. The ISO is absolutely abysmal. Plus Canon does not service these anymore so you better hope it was taken care of or else you're stuck with a $50 paper weight. Seriously, just save your money and buy an original Canon 5D if you're looking for a cheap first camera. It's superior to this in every way imaginable and it's such an iconic camera that I'm sure you can still find ways to get it serviced if it does indeed break, which is unlikely because the 5D is built like a freaking tank.

This was really interesting. Also, it’s interesting to read how others got started. And seriously, as long as the photos are good, nobody cares which camera was used. While I never was a Canon user, my first DSLR, a Nikon D3000, was very similar in specs. Got it used for about 150 bucks including the kit lens. Camera was absolutely no good above 800 ISO, horribly slow AF, the works. Did I care? Hell no. I finally had my own camera, yay! But it got me started on a journey that has been going on for 10 years so far, and getting to own equipment that I would not even have dared to dream of when I started. But that first camera really gave me a lot of room to grow, and I look back on it fondly. Later I gradually upgraded as my requirements changed and when I had found my footing. If you, dear reader, are looking to get in the game, here is some advice I wish I had back then: The worst thing you can do is agonize over what camera body to get. Throw away the spec sheets first, and get the actual camera in your hand. Try it out. Rent one if you can and give it a test drive. If it feels right for you and you can operate its basic functions without looking, it‘s the right camera for you. Do not focus on labels first. Focus on what feels good. No one’s opinion is important here except yours. If you can’t make the camera work for you, it does not matter if 20 people tell you that it’s awesome. My example of choice: Olympus. They make absolutely gorgeous cameras that look stunning, polished and are very well thought out. Problem is, they are just too tiny for my hands and that makes operating them a pretty awkward affair. For me. Not saying the cameras are bad, they just don’t work for me. If they work for you: all the power to you. Don’t get involved in the whole circle jerk of people clamoring about how Sony is the way to go vs Canon vs Nikon vs Pentax vs Fuji vs. Panasonic etc. They each have their advantages and drawbacks in some areas but they all produce overall good results. Certainly good enough for the average, and even ambitious hobbyist and often enough even for seasoned professionals. Not everyone is an opinionated pixel peeper, and often enough, pixel peeping will more likely make you needlessly doubt yourself and ditch things that are perfectly alright. Once you have your preferred make, you can start looking at specs. But do not fall into the „bigger numbers = more better“ trap. For example: Frames per second. Lots of fps is better for certain things, yes. But you are more likely to need that for sports events or concerts. Less so for landscapes or macro stuff where 15 fps do nothing except fill up your card faster. In a lot of cases, last year’s model will do just fine (also considering your wallet). Also: the camera body is less important than you might think. The lenses are where a lot of the magic happens. If you invest in good quality glass, you set yourself up for success. If you slap an el cheapo lens on a high quality body, your results will very likely come back lacking. If you put a high quality lens on an entry level body, you will be amazed. It doesn’t need to be the most expensive variety or the fanciest label either, though (like Canon‘s „L“ lenses with the red ring or Sony‘s „G Master Series“ or a Zeiss „Batis“). Your camera is not an end in itself - it is a tool that you do work with and that you need to practice with. And remember: If the picture captures interest, and if people like it, the camera won’t matter one bit. You can have a photo taken with a camera worth thousands that is technically perfect, with spot on exposure and tack sharp across the board… but terminally boring to look at, while a more exciting picture might have been taken with a potato of a camera.

Got one a while ago. It’s my grab & go for those times I don’t want to worry about the camera. The image quality is spot on, unless you print A3. With a fast lens of 50mm or less, it’s brilliant for street or simply in your pocket, just in case. The body is quite petite too, adding to its utility. Just rely on the LED screen, tape over the picture screen (anti-chimp) and get shooting.

I stand by this camera to be the best beginner camera ever. It teaches you not to rely on live view and take it slow. You can't really spray and pray on this camera. The images this camera takes is otherworldly, some of the best photos i've ever taken was on this camera. Also, if you want to shoot film, this is a really great camera to practice on due to the limited ISO range, you can practice your exposure triangle by just leaving it on one ISO. This camera really renders some of the most filmic looking images i've ever seen. This and the 5D classic are on another planet when it comes to SOOC colours. I've had mine for well over 10 years before it died.

My main issue with older DSLRs is the autofocus system. I had a T6 and missed a lot of shots because the camera didn't focus properly, it had only 9 focus points with the mirror down. Recently I've got a T6i which has 19 focus points and Hybrid CMOS so it uses PDAF even with the mirror up, It has been great so far with lot less missed shots.

The first DSLR I ever used was the Canon 400D, which I think was the successor of this model. I had a huge amount of fun with it, even using it for tourism and landscape jobs in the late 2000s. It used the same battery as my Canon S70 compact, which made life easier. Fun and simple times.

Pretty sure it has a CCD sensor and not CMOS but not a big deal. The screen isn't a limitation either since older cameras made it incredibly quick and easy to zoom in and look at your picture to check the focus and detail. As for the iso range, it is limited but most of the time isn't a problem at all especially with nice lenses. I have shot excellent portraits in low light situations (including my profile picture of the cat indoors at sunset with no lights on or flash) and even the moon with all the stars around it. I have also shot beautiful wildlife pictures of birds with their eyes in perfect focus even through branches. Large prints aren't a problem either. My prints are usually 8x10 but I can even make them bigger than that and they still look beautiful up close. I can keep going on here but you all get the point. I own this camera but normally use my 6 megapixel Nikon D70s and actually get hired to use it in 2024. I currently have a portrait job and sports photography job going as well as a party coming up (all with my D70s from 2005 and it's glorious 6mp sensor). Your skills as a photographer and the quality of the lenses you use are the most important. Older cameras are definitely harder to use for beginners but learning the hard way definitely helps in the long run. No one knew how old my camera was. They assumed it was new. It took significantly better pictures than their brand new flagship phones and I loved seeing their reactions when I told them what I used;🤣

Got mine at ebay 4 years ago for $31, my first DSLR. A great camera for learning, no auto ISO, so you have to know what you are doing. Still use it when I don't want to carry my big heavy 70D. With Topaz Denoise I can push ISO to 800 and still get nice pictures.

I had from new and still have the 20D of very similar vintage and specs (2004) , my first DSLR after 30 years with film. It still takes great images although it goes without saying that it’s not as feature rich as my R5 ! But honestly a couple of months back I took the same photo with the same lens across this, a 50D (from 2008) and the R5 and at IPad size you’d be a brave person to really tell the difference with certainty especially after a minimal spin through photoshop. . Obviously, AF, ISO, user controls, the addition of video, EVF’s, LCD’s, touch controls , cropping etc tells a different story but fully agree camera’s from this vintage are still very capable and you can use any glass right up the the RF mount. I also still have the battery grip for the 20D its the BG E2N and full agree with the feel.
@fredriksvard2603
@fredriksvard2603 2 жыл бұрын
I used the 20d for many years and well... snapshots taken in broad daylight, i couldnt tell any two reasonably ok cameras apart. But that's not what we get cameras for isnit... in low light, or when filming in 120fps, or handholding long lenses with dual stabilization, or adapting vintage lenses... my lumix S5 is on a different planet. I'd assume an iphone pretty much destroys a 20d too. If i wanted a second system and i wanted access to canon glass i think a 5dii delivers fantastic image quality though.

If you use DXO PhotoLab Deep Prime that's the best noise reduction. It even restores loss color due to high ISO. So the ISO is still very good. I do like DXO PhotoLab better then DXO PureRaw because you have more control. When I DXO PhotoLab Deep Prime is amazing I'm not joking you really need to try it. What I do is I export to DNG so I can still edit in other editors. I I edit in DXO PhotoLab I export to jpeg then.

8MP with CMOS APS-C sensor and a mirror inside that at anytime can fail, I think if you have any other option you should choose that over this DSLR. If possible get a CCD sensor camera to at least utilise a decent 100 colour science that can stick out from the current standards.
