All that says is do it at your own risk. DE taling to them about not breaching their ToS stuff is not what I personally consider enough to install this piece of software. This app looks very good in what it does, but I rather not risk it.

@@bulk-ym9psread their post about it again. They explicitly state that they would like to do that, but they cannot as the potential for 3rd party apps to influence the game in unknown and potentially exploitable ways could result in problems that they have zero control over.

what is wrong with Overwolf? From all of my research into it Overwolf is just Curse. Overwolf bought CurseForge back in 2020 from twitch. They do collect a ton of data though, (everyone does) including the apps you use, the games you play, video capture preferences, experiments you participate in, etc. but they use this data to give you recommendations that are supposed to be relevant to you and testing new features. Overwatch does vouch for the apps on the platform and swears they ensure all apps comply with a game's ToS and have been manually tested for quality, malware and performance.

@@darschpugs4690 it's a lot better now, but back in the day it acted like some ransomware. Still sometimes does, because it autoinstalls with a lot of other programs.

They don't seem to have the devs who cold find the time and make something like that, I don't wanna assume things but DE are both unique and in some ways stuck in the past at the same time.

You can go to overwolf, settings, about and there development options. When you click on it, a browser panel shows up with your installed plugins for overwolf. If you click the UID of Alecaframe, it'll open it's directory on your computer, where you can browse the files in Alecaframe. You can there open the web folder, where all the related javascript can be found (in the assets folder there). I'm not saying that it's open-source, or something, and I'm not sponsored by them, BUT it doesn't seem like it's a black box, that just collects whatever data it wants (windows probably wouldn't let it do so anyways). So anyways, if you'd want to dig into the source, I'd suggest you to try this.

Yeah losing years of progress for 15 minutes of saved time isn't really worth the risk for me. Wfinfo just scans the screen so it's no risk so I'll be sticking with it

Would you please tell me your reason(s) not install 3rd party apps? I want to use this but with caution.

Got a bit of power use in today! Used the relic planner to pick the highest ducat yield missions. Set it to show ducat profits from rewards, instead of plat. Then at the reward screens, I used the popup advisory, & could now see what was the highest ducat payoff from the 4 chances of the group. Some were obvi, but being newish, not often did I know without a lookup… Given the few seconds to decide, Alecaframe helped me maximize my day and net +800 ducats so I could get the 3 mods I wanted!! Perfect. Then I ground a carefully selected mission several times & it dropped 2x the relic with the one prime frame part I really want to get. Will continue, of course, because odds are I’ll need to run 10x a 4 man to crack the rare out of it… Crazy day, I’m exhausted, but with thousands of ppl grinding cracking missions today, the time was right. Alecaframe paid off Huge! Tyvm for the recommendation!

I agree I'd stay back from AlecaFrame. That program reads game files and puts the player at risk for getting banned should DE change/update their anti-cheat. WFInfo on the other hand doesn't read game data (just uses OCR/Image recognition) and is thus undetectable (also DE said that it's okay to use, directly referring to WFInfo, but said they aren't responsible if WFInfo does malicious things to the user, which it won't since it's open source).

I actually found it pretty easily with a google search. Seems really awesome, am going to check it out. That said, DE should be ashamed of themselves. Attempting to maintain a neutral stance on 3rd party software, then saying a certain one won't get you banned while refusing to comment on a very similar piece of software. Seems quite unfair.

@@Mad-Lad-Chad WFInfo is image recognition, it reads your screen. So does any video recording software. So to put a blanket ban on screen reading software would ban every content creator this game has. That won't happen. AleceFrame is not safe, as very few legitimate players use code reading software, and I'd guess nearly 100% of cheaters do use code reading software, which audience do you think DE will target if they do target one?

They have financial incentive to make the software look good. 2) DE said they are looking into making something similar, maybe the symbol to indicate you've mastered something on relics and during the relic rewards screen.

I've never been a fan of overwolf myself, but I've been using alecaframe for about a week. It's really lightweight, no performance impacts, very useful. A lot of features, and more coming apparently. I can recommend it despite it being overwolf, and DE has apparently looked into how they use the API to make sure nothing is against ToS.

I don't get what's so invasive about Overwolf?

Overwolf has always been known to slow computers down. People just thought it was heavy poorly designed software. I guess someone or some people did some digging into why and it turned out that Overwolf was doing things with people's computers in the background, like crypto mining and other things. Of course, Overwolf did not disclose that their software would be doing those things so it was a big deal. Especially since the people who installed Overwolf weren't getting a cut of the crypto revenue. I haven't used Overwolf in years because of how much resources it tied up on my system but I am definitely not inclined to reinstall it for any reason either.

Do you have ANY evidence other than a Reddit post (or heck, a Reddit post with pictures showing what they're talking about would be great) showing this? I have it installed and it is using fractions of a precent of resources. My gpu is idle, and my cpu is near idle (can show pictures if you want) so it's clearly not mining anything; that would require using the system in some way to actually do the mining. I realize it's possible it did this in the past and was removed when it was "discovered". But I have a REALLY hard time believing that ever happened with this specific software when NO ONE has been able to show me a place where this was substantiated in any way. So far the hate for Overwolf seems to boil down to a lot of people hopping on the hate wagon from Reddit and spreading misinformation. To be clear, I'm not really a fan of Overwolf. I hate it as much as any mod manager, a little more so actually. Other mod managers I can just not use. But aside from that, it's no better or worse in my eyes. Maybe you can show me what I'm missing.

Hey, I was trying to find more info on this and found lots of angry reddit posts from 1-2 years ago...but none of those ever showed any kind of evidence, like even task manager screenshots of CPU usage. I'm usually really careful with programs like these, but I didn't find any evidence at all relating to crypto or scanning. Do you know if somewhere all these effects have been documented?

@@thedude2241 Unfortunately I couldn't point you in any direction to find proof, but from my own personal experience Overwolf had consistently stunted my PC's performance and created alerts on my antimalware.

My experience is its fine, no better or worse than any other mod manager. I wish SOMEONE with these huge claims could find a single source showing any evidence at all.

It's like the runelite and old school RuneScape issue. Over time they will probably just feed off of stuff they have them slowly ban it out when they get all the features that people want.

@@Mad-Lad-Chad No they didn't. The update on the article says nothing like that. It's still not approved, and they could turn around at any point and say it is breaking TOS. All it says is that it CURRENTLY doesn't break TOS, but with it being closed source, we don't know what the software actually does. One update could change everything. "Use at your own risk"

Yes the app could randomly change in a malicious way (incredibly unlikely, they would kill their app in doing so). I could also get struck by lightning typing this. It's equally as likely DE could spontaneously decide to ban all users of any form of 3rd party software regardless of what it does. That also doesn't seem likely, again these companies have goals and randomly screwing over customers is not one of them. Everything in life has some small risk. Just TYPING IN CHAT can lead to a misunderstanding that DE will ban for. But blowing the risk out of proportion doesn't help any more than minimizing it. Presenting information in an honest way as TheKengineer has and letting people make their own decision is the best way to operate.
