About the axolotl question, that's part of the reason axolotl setups are so expensive!! You have to buy a chiller for the tank, which can be like $400. Some people just get fans to blow on the water, but that creates uneven temperatures throughout the tank and isn't ideal.
@RioCahyadiDrayka
@RioCahyadiDrayka 2 жыл бұрын
Not if you put the fan near the output of the filter. And you can just use more than 1 computer fan, it's way cheaper than using chiller.
@pianoplayingfishkeeper2094
@pianoplayingfishkeeper2094 2 жыл бұрын
I mean you don't really need a chiller in colder places like Canada where I live. A friend of mine has an axolotl and it has no chiller. If it ever gets too hot, he just puts frozen water bottles in it until it reaches the temperature it's supposed to be. I think he might have a chiller is he really needs it tho, but his room is always cold and dark

thanks for letting me know! Yeah it's crazy even places like Canada are heating up so much in the summers

Personally I use fans on both sides of the tank bedside each canister filter works pretty well until the heatwaves hit here in the interior then it's fans as well as bagged ice packs and frozen water bottles rotated twice a day

I got my Betta several months ago. At the time, I thought they liked smaller tanks, so he was in a 1 gallon. Well, after I got him, I started watching these kinds of videos, especially yours. A few days ago, after some saving (and with the help of a discount), I bought Freddie a 5 gallon tank with live plants. It’s cycling right now. So on Freddie’s behalf, thank you! Also, does anyone have tips on transferring fish from one tank to another? Want to make sure I do it right.
@neobrunacarpes
@neobrunacarpes 2 жыл бұрын
If you wanna be extra careful, drip acclimate him. Put him on a recipient, floating on the new tank and gradually add new tank water to the recipient. He should be fine though, I recently switched my Betta from a 4g to a 16g and basically just did that super quick and she's fine. Never seen Skye so happy :D good job on upgrading your tank and I hope Freddie enjoys it!

Fun fact - Deer and antelopes are red-green colorblind, so they see those colours as gray and that's why tigers can hide in green grass while being orange.
@FishForThought
@FishForThought 2 жыл бұрын
that is so cool and got me thinking about many things on evolution and how neat it is. Humans always think about how the world is about themselves, but here we see that tigers don't give an eff what color we see them as, they're that strikingly beautiful color only cuz it's better for camouflage while hunting. Small but humbling detail that existence... is just not that deep like we try to make it seem xD

For the Gourami Chart there are no imposters. They are all gouramis, though there are several duplicate species for multiple colour variants. From Left to Right Top to Bottom: Kissing Gourami (Helostoma temminkii), Pearl Three spot Gourami (Trichogaster Trichopterus) Paradise Fish (Macropodus opercularis), Honey Gourami (Trichogaster Chuna). Licorice Gourami (Parosphromenus Sp. could be tweediei, but there are like 30 species), Wildtype Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius), Sunset Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius), Chocolate Gourami (Sphaerichthys osphromenoides). Golden Threespot Gourami (Trichogaster Trichopterus), Moonlight Gourami (Trichogaster Microlepsis), Sparkling Gourami(Trichopsis pumila), Powdered Blue Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster Lalius). Officially all fish of the family Osphronemidae are Gouramis. Yes, technically Bettas are Gouramis as well. In German we are further defining them as "Threadfish", which are all species in the genera Trichogaster and Trichopodus (pretty much all the Gouramis with the long feeler fins), but this would exclude a bunch of fish on this poster, namely the Kissing Gourami, Paradise Fish, Licourice Gourami, Chocolate Gourami and Sparkling Gourami.

I insulated my tank with reflective insulation from home depot and added a background to the tank on the inside of the insulation so its not as ugly, made a mesh lid and have a fan on top. I live in FL keep my ac at 75 and my tank sits at a consistent 68 and my axolotl is doing great. Materials probably cost me $40 total and I have extra mesh/insulation left over way cheaper than a chiller system.

Fave bird? Blue Jay, Gray Jay, Crows... Corvids in general. Not only are they super duper pretty but when I was renting my first flat in my new city, the blue jays would come to my window and scream at me to feed them (how precious). They brought their babies to come feed in the summer and fall and would SING to me! I live in another part of town now and am feeding a new family of bluejays who know the routine. Went to my sister's cabin in rural Newfoundland and the gray jays bring their babies around to feed too. They were eating off our hands and acting quite playful. Crows are just freaking crows. So cool. So smart. So inky blinky black.

Hey Chris! Axolotl owner here living in the midwestern us. I have my tank in my basement, (it’s a developed basement with my bedroom in it.) And during the cycling process we had 100-105 degrees, (Fahrenheit.) And it only got to 72, (still in Fahrenheit.) But I have a chiller, just in case. Hope that helps.😀
@dulcythefrog
@dulcythefrog 2 жыл бұрын
Same, southern midwest with hot, muggy summers. Basement location, plus surface fans, plus sponge filters results in low-mid 60s F even in heat waves. It also results in fast evaporation, though, increasing the need for top-ups.

I absolutely adore all types of birds of pray (yes even vultures) but my favourites are either Merlin Falcons or the Eurasian Eagle-Owl. Fun fact: Did you know that owls actually refer to two different types of owls, a difference based off the presence of egrets (ear tufts), French has two seperate names for them: Hibou (plural. Hiboux) and Chouette (plural. Chouettes). Though there is technically no difference scientifically, each type also tends to have (but not always) some different characteristics, though egrets are the only factor to sort them out. Hiboux have egrets (or ear-tufts). Their eyes also often have distinct pupils and irises (often yellow). They can be nocturnal or crepuscular, meaning that they are active during dusk and dawn. They are what is commonly imagined when one says owl, such as the Eurasian Eagle Owl. Chouettes, however, do not have egrets. Most often they do not seem to have an iris, instead with fully black eyes, though some will have irises. They are nocturnal. One example is Hedwig, the snowy owl from Harry Potter.

Yo another vulture lover!! :D I adore birds of prey so much, and after spending time at a raptor conservation center, vultures have my whole heart. They look like spooky goths but they’re so goofy if they think you’re part of their flock! I even got to see two different wild black vulture pairs nesting between the center’s resident vulture enclosures, (and one of them had a baby hatched that looked like a fluffy muppet XD) They do such an important job cleaning up decay without spreading disease, and they get so so much flack for it just because they eat dead things… like every other carnivore does? More vulture love!! Also in all my bird factoid knowledge I never knew that about owls! That’s so dope thanks for sharing!!

4:03 this is not related to fish in any way but I gotta share my experience with this type of problem. I’m a landscaper at a large recreational property/farm that’s available to the public and, one day, we showed up to work to find that someone had gone into the public garden and wreaked havoc on one of our apple trees with a hatchet over night. They partially chopped a whole major limb of the tree off and they used the hatchet to shred the majority of the bark off of the main trunk. For absolutely no reason. And people do weird stuff like that all the time.

My favorite birds would be plovers that lay eggs on gravel, cardinals because they’re not always common here, and king fishers and every type of owl 🦉 blue footed boo8ies are nice too😩

Just looked it up myself and I think they’re the same friggin birb😩 First time I learned about them- went on a sailing race thing with my future high school biology teacher and they were running all over the gravel screaming and squawking then I found out it was so they could lure predators away from their ground nests 🪺 weird story but interesting experience

4:28 We got those banging children, too. I'd usually stay close and wait until they got to the tank with our full grown Channa aurantimaculata breeding pair. One bang and the male would jump up into the glass covering (he was fine. Snakeheads are build different...), the child would get the shock of their lives and I guaranty they'd never bang on any enclosure ever again. I used to try and just tell them not to do it but you know how it is, the children don't listen and the parents get offended - well, they can hardly get mad at the fish.

My favorite birds are basically just any bird that's black. Corvids, mynah, black vultures, starling, grackle, black cockatoos, Dracula parrot, etc. I have a special place in my heart for black animals, including black fish. My dream is to have a black water misty bog indoor pond tank. I want to stock it with one copper mustard gas betta, (if you google image search it, the first pinterest result is the most gorgeous fish) and two longfin bristlenose plecos, with some different species of black snails. I've been trying to hunt down giant driftwood that I can actually afford.

Relating to the question:I use a small usb fan on my axolotl tank from Amazon that a small channel recommended to use to chill my aquarium.I placed the usb fan right next to the out put on my filter.I have a 40 gallon aquarium for my luesistic axolotl Kirby,the tank usually stays at 65 degrees but on really hot days(I live in Texas) it can rise to 67 or even 68.and yes I know that’s not ideal but my axolotl seems to be un affected and shows no signs of stress

My brother has a 55 gallon axolotl tank. I gave him the tank and everything but the way he cools it is by cooling the room. The same way people heat their rooms. He has ferrets which enjoy cold as well and he cools the room to the low 60s for his little axolotls

A really common way that us axolotl keepers keep the tanks cool is frozen water bottles/ milk jugs (had a forty gallon breeder before I found out I had a male and a female and the gallon jugs worked the best before they were separated)
