I'm a newbie to your channel Wade and this was an outstanding episode. I didn't know squat about Scotch in the mid 90's when someone brought a bottle of The Balvenie 12 year old Double Oak to the local cigar shop I frequented. I had a dram and was blown away. It is the bottle that got me on my Scotch whisky journey. Page forward many years/decades and their 21 year old port wood finished is my favorite Scotch bar none. I've been looking at this particular bottle for a while now and thanks to your review and others I am going to pull the trigger on a bottle. I am now a subscriber so thank you and keep up the great work. I look forward to watching your episodes on some of my favorites Scotch whiskeys. Cheers...

This really is a good whisky, normally $99 at Dan's when choosing delivery,I really love balvenie, unfortunately most are well out of my price tag

If I'm being honest, you are not missing anything on the higher priced Balvenies, these are as good as the more expensive ones, until you get into higher ABV

Nice one Wade! Balvenie is one of these distilleries which everyone can enjoy the products but hardly ever becomes the source of massive excitement. They're really well made whiskies and some expressions have been really good like the 17 Doublewood but generally I'm pleased with the whisky but they don't stay with me. We had a tasting with the new expressions; Creation of a Classic, 12 sweet toast, 14 week of peat, 15 madeira and 17 peated cask and the 12 made everyone happy but the 15 madeira was a huge let down and the surprise of the night was 17 peated cask. Having said this, they're so expensive which makes me think twice before buying them. Cheers dude!

I haven't tried the Caribbean Cask, but if I had to pick I'd probably lean towards the Caribbean Cask because the virgin oak just doesn't work well for me. Having said that I probably wouldn't pick either of them if I could choose something else.

I had the 12 year double wood and I picked up a lot of butyric acid on it, and not in the pineapple way, the vomit way.

That is the beauty of different people'e opinions and palates. Would be no value if we all agreed all the time 😉 Agree with Ralfy that the wood is front and centre, but I find it improves over time as the bottle empties, and drinking out of other glasses than a Glencairn too.
