My worst boss told me that I should be working more hours because I was single. No extra pay though.

Oh no, the boss wanted him to get rid of his child so she won't be inconvenienced. So crazy.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that she’s jealous because she doesn’t have children. I’ve seen this before.

I think that was an easy one, I guess. I had a boss for whom I worked for almost two and a half years, and it destroyed me mentally... Or maybe it "almost" destroyed me, because I left that crappy job with the thought that it's better to be jobless than to have very, very bad depression. Mind you, it was in the middle of the pandemic. A few weeks later, I found a job where I'm still working today, and I'm very, very happy. still I have some kind of depression because of him, but at least I'm relaxed

Yeah, I had one of these. And yeah, she had issues. Only job I ever walked out of in the middle of the shift: total first for me. In my case, it wasn't just micromanaging, it was micromanaging to destroy... she had been warned that she wasn't allowed to fire me. But you don't actually need to fire someone to get rid of them. Sigh.

I ran teams of Alphas (majority male) and I am not talking about Rugger playing lads who demonstrate how tough they are be skolling pints down at the local on Friday night. I am talking men and women that are armed and dangerous even when they appeared unarmed. I knew the personalities, knew what their main areas of expertise were and always remembered a quote from Old Blood 'n Guts himself, GEN Patton. He said "Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results". Despite being in a leadership position, if we were involved in a task and someone else was better equipped to manage said task and they told me to jump, I'd jump, then look down and ask "where should I land"? Never ever would I manage their communications etc. unless a serious faux pas had occurred and even then it would be a "counselling" where I said here is where you fouled up, these are the good points from the example so less of number one and more of number two... carry on. The very first time that boss as described told me she had to be cc'd in on every piece of correspondence would have been her 30 second notice that I quit.

Any leader with proper skills will know that guiding people towards a goal comes down to detecting who knows what and giving them the guidance and communication to reach those goals; without interfering what individuals expertise.

I had the exact same experience, here are some insights I can share: these companies never close. The board always finds a way to rescue the sinking ship or is painfully unaware. The person in charge has no professional capacity to lead any kind of team. In my case it was a PR hire gone rouge, given a winning team and basically drowned all morale. I think such leaders will always take any credit including for work done by external contractors 😂. And their egos are unmatched maybe the incompetence is the only thing on the same level 😂😂😂

Most bosses are so detached from the positions they manage that I think this is giving them anxiety about tasks they think need to be done. Then the bosses project that anxiety and lack of competency onto their employees. How about.. get your hands dirty once in a while dear CFO or CEO .. grab a mop and work with the cleaning crew, get in a car and drive the delivery route etc etc..

I have the best boss in the world. 3 years ago, my wife had to go into hospital, heart surgery. I asked my boss if I could change shifts to permanent night shift so if anything happens at home, I'm there during the day. I was on permanent nightshift with one 6 hour day shift the following week with 3 days off. Now I need hip surgery my boss has said I can drop the 6 hour day shift if I want to untill I get my surgery and light duties on night shift. Who has a boss like that huh 😊.

I had a boss who not only micromanaged us, she was so incompetent she didn't understand what our jobs WERE, and we'd have to explain our every action over and over. She was also very mean, and made more than one coworker cry. Other units would try to avoid dealing with her, and would come to us to help them figure out "workarounds" so they wouldn't have to talk to her.

I've had such a boss (she was the boss not because of her competence, but because she was the mistress of a politician) - I also cried in my car every morning when I went to work ...

I have had that type of job a few times in my life where I either sat in my car and cried before going in, or took time out of the day to go to the bathroom and have a good cry because of how poorly I was being treated. Then, I marched right back in to work and did the job until I could bear it no more. I am so sorry that you are going through this. Hang in there until you can find something better.🎉

2:25 Can I ask, do you have info to indicate this is a man? I got the vibe this was a woman. There’s a lot of people pleasing that made me think they weren’t a man, but I’ve also noticed women managers will sometimes turn on their women employees if they feel threatened or have it in their mind that they can’t seem like they’re lenient on women so they loop around to outright abusing them. Like particularly the comment about having a child read to me as “if you want to be a woman in a high up/business oriented/managerial position, you can’t also be a mother.” I could be totally off but when you started using He/Him pronouns I was genuinely surprised.

Work for a national company, my ex at the time got a job when our youngest was 2 & half, manager told me I was in breach of contract for being the only adult in the house (I work from home) looking after said child while working, then when I disproved that, they said it was breach of policy, so asked to see the policy, which never came, even said to my manager at the time “if my partner died, and I’m left in charge of the kids, what then?” The response was “well you wouldn’t be working for *company* would you?”
