This CNC Video Just Saved You $1860 On A Plasma Controller...

This overview covers a plasma controller that's being sold for $1860 with shipping. This unit is one of the worst built units I've seen yet.
Please exercise extreme caution before spending your hard earned money on controllers from vendors lacking the required electronic experience to assemble them.
Its your responsibility to avoid becoming a victim. Educate yourself below for free.
The time you spend doing this will assure your system will be built correctly. Ask all vendors to see the controller internally prior to buying a system to assure it matches the build practices discussed in the videos below.

Nice video, all of your statements were accurate. That box is at best a 400 dollar box if you are willing to accept the crudeness. If you have a Hypertherm plasma cutter it will likely work. I was the second manufacturer of CNC plasma tables in the US. That was 25 or so years ago. Torchmate was the first, I bought a torchmate kit, It was so bad that I didn't even build it instead I built my own design and started selling CNC plasma cutters. I had to personally design and solder every motor driver board. There were no cheap boards available period. A 20 dollar driver would have been a dream come true. I still have some boards and components but cheap boards rule the day !! Torchmate was using plotter codes to drive the machine. You had to hand edit every file to add torch on off and pause commands. When I started selling machines I used Gcode of course and I wrote a Cad to Gcode program to make things much easier.

I read about ground both sides it can create a ground loop, witch actual makes the shielding become an antenna. Drawing in EMI. like tuning in a radio station

John, thank you for your support as always, and you're correct "Ground Loops" can cause a lot of issues, and this is why understanding the details of plasma robots is essential. Honestly though the more you review chassis most end users produce are lacking proper double shielding to begin with let alone proper grounding. Have a great weekend! Vince

35:00 In RS485 connector why the wire shield is daisy chained with the negative in this sketch? I was browsing there website some weeks ago and i found this part a little misleading.

Thank you for your support, and nice catch. This is incorrect as the shield drain should be allocated to the system's ground bus for proper EMI dissipation. Thank you, Vince

My Cnc box I built for my Bridgeport not plasma I used 16g aircraft shielded cable for my steppers. That my last job sold me the owner was amazing! He would sell me cables anytime I asked! On top of that I used shielded wire on almost everything used. (Used acorn control for the Bridgeport) Now my question! I have a millright mega v plasma that the control box looks close to this! I want to use either Myplasma, Masso, or centroid acorn if they come out with the plasma version soon. I’d like to have separate y axis for auto squaring! For my table. I paid over 3 grand for the millright and their advertisement looked like it was plug n play! NOT SO! I really really like the acorn from centroid it just works! I’d like your opinion on these control systems in-biased of course! Oh and the Ethernet cable being used for this is breathtaking! I wire military aircraft and seeing this is just WRONG! Banana plugs? Really????

Question for you from a complete novice... if the Step/Dir signal logic at 5 volts is questionable for interference related issues, then how would you overcome this in your profession opinion? Would the optimal solution be that people seek units, both controllers and drives that have a higher than 5 volt compatible step and direction input/output?

S S S stuff, thank you for your support. If it were possible to use drives with a higher voltage then this would certainly be beneficial as the higher the voltage the less EMI has an effect on them, but in best practice regardless of voltage of these signals when it comes to robotics double shielded cable, and ferrites for EMI mitigation is to be used for optimal EMI mitigation, and system stability.
