QUESTION - Have a question about how to run your clothing brand? Post in comments section of this video!
About This Video:
In this video, Rob talks about why "Instagram marketing" (and all other social media marketing) is useless unless you establish the foundation of your clothing brand first. This video is not about how to grow on Instagram directly - but if you apply the basic rule in this video to your clothing brand you will find it MUCH easier to grow on all social media platforms in the future. The basic rule is that marketing comes second to your product. Most clothing brand startups rush through the product and brand building phase - and jump straight into marketing. They are then left with lacklustre results wondering why "social media marketing" doesn't work! These are the foundational mechanics of clothing brand marketing that are often overlooked. This is the real marketing strategy every clothing brand, t shirt business, fashion line, etc should be starting out with. Any type of apparel brand, whether you're operating through dropshipping, print on demand or shipping orders yourself - has to first master the foundation of their "brand" before they will see any significant results. This is true in 2021 and beyond! This info applies to clothing brands, clothing lines, fashion brands, fashion lines, streetwear, t shirt businesses, print on demand (shopify, wix, etc), dropshipping, and beyond!!

This is probably the most important lesson I've shared on this channel so far. I think this is a problem area for most clothing brands that are frantically trying to market their clothing brand. If the substance isn't there, then improving that should be your primary focus. Also, I have a troll or two that keep disliking my videos the second they're uploaded. If you learned something by watching this video, I would really appreciate it if you would hit the thumbs up button. Thanks bahds.

Rob - You’ve got great information on your posts. I especially love what you’re saying about developing your brand and knowing what you’re all about. I’m still in the development phase and have a long way to go, but the focus is becoming clearer. Keep up the great posts! It’s fun to feel connected to our neighbors to the north. John, Phoenix, AZ

This is exactly what a lot of clothing brands are missing. I would rather have 1,000 customers that are actually repeat customers that really believe in your brand vision and mission, than 10,000 followers that don't even know what you stand for and don't feel like they are part of a community.

Clothing brands needs to be educated with branding because most of them think of the brand as a concept, name, logo, and design. It's a part of it. Branding is a huge subject and its main purpose is to target the audience that will actually buy your brand!

I started a brand call Rich $ Lazy about 9 months ago and it's funny because I put a lot time on design and not enough on marketing I guess it depends on your focus or what your good at. It's a challenge to give both design and marketing your undivided attention , and both process need a lot of attention.

I’m so in the same position! Thank you for sharing that. My husband and I started a skim board clothing brand 11 years ago when we lived in Sri Lanka called Gekko Skim. When we moved back to the UK just after we left it aside after putting literally hundreds of hours worth of designs together on Corel Draw! We found them the other week on my hard drive and now we are going straight back into it with heart. My strengths is in the story, designing artwork and it having a real true meaning...and my husband just wants to get printing already and getting them out there and sold! 🙈🙈

Rob, I couldn't agree more ,product is the most important part of any brand and in the apparel business You are either a brand or a commodity. I've been in the wholesale clothing business for over 30 years, I spent 9 of those years working for shark tank entrepreneur Daymond John who started fubu, I was head of his US Sales for the 11 western states, and started when the company and him were virtually unknown. One of the things they did perfectly was there product development and Identifying their customer and marketing to them, (keep in mind this was before the internet became such a marketing force,) they got the product out by going to rap video shoots and concerts and and literally throwing the product at the artist's before they went on stage, when they saw a new product get traction they were laser focused at building new product around it as well as constantly adding new product, which is one of the main reason they had such explosive growth. I have my own brand now "dunworkin" which is focused on what people like to do with their time off, whether its for the day, the week, or the rest of their lives. www.dunworkin.life/collections/mens. I've had it for 4+ years and have 2 retail stores in resort areas as well as sell to several wholesale accounts that do very well with the product, people love the brand and it has done extremely well everywhere we have placed it. The places I have definitely lacked is is on my social media and especially advertising mainly because I don't fully understand it and I wear to many hats in my own business so I have been reluctant to jump in. We do a good web business but it is mostly from people who have previously purchased products in our store, and organic growth. I have someone who is redoing my website right now and I will have you review it once its updated, and hope to implement more of your program once it is updated. keep doing what you do, I always pick up great information from your posts, course and FB Groups

so i checked ur website and i think the bring your eh game shirt is on sale for a reason.i get the play on words for the canadians that say "eh" alot, but the problem i think is no one wants to bring there "eh game" even if its cute and symbolic tying into canadians, everybody wants to bring there A GAME no matter what, so although clever it isn't working as well as you thought but it was a great initial thought. sometimes in all things when we find a clever saying we feel lets run with that marketing campaign but just because we came up with it and we are like "wow how novel of me" it doesn't always translate the same. Other than that your other clever line's are just that INCREDIBLY CLEVER and wonderful, i love them all!! beer hunting, brewski, amazing concept's, i like the boat one too. just thought id give u insight on why that certain hockey one is on sale. maybe that shirt being on sale has nothing to do with it selling well or not maybe its been a design you've had for a long time, i really dont know, but its not sold out like the brewski tee, see the comparison. thats what i gathered.

@@CstWstFllwer appreciate the feedback, actually that is a really good design for me I do that design in several bodies and fabrications the particular one that is on sale is the cotton poly/blend , my customer typically likes the 100% pigment dyed cotton better and I often promo the cotton poly blend, I recently put all the cotton poly shirts on sale

I started my tshirt brand as a way to bring my drawings to life. My brand concept is design based. I brand it as “paper to cotton” because i take my paper drawings and transfer them to the tshirts giving them this raw aesthetic. Do you guys think a design first brand instead of capturing a specific group and branding around that (ex clothes for rural Canadians) will be successful?

Finix Wear FB/IG: @finixwear Web: finixwear.com I resonate a lot with what you say in this video Rob and I have actually put a lot of my time and energy into developing and marketing my brand/brand concept on all my main channels, all while juggling with ensuring the quality and style of my clothes and prints are on point with my suppliers. However, despite all of that, I notice that I still struggle with making an organic sale. I've done some social media ads on the side to push this and to build greater brand awareness but I haven't seen any developments on that end (I'm beginning to wonder if it's even working). Most of my sales at this point have been from family and friends but beyond that, my organic sales have been close to zero. I did see some "headway" when I did a recent pop-up at one of my friend's studios but I feel at this point physical pop-ups are going to hard to come by in this pandemic where boutique fairs and flea markets are all not happening.
