In this weeks video, Hannah Morris Bouldering is climbing on Europe's first indoor Psicobloc boulder. This free standing boulder is a free solo climbing wall with an 8m fall, and a VERY different climbing experience.
We've wanted to film this episode for a long time - the Psicobloc is such a unique climbing feature of the Boardroom Climbing in Chester. The translation of the Psicobloc is “crazy boulder” and it definitely lived up to its name. So far, it’s the only indoor one in Europe and one of only a handful in the world.

I liked how despite feeling fear and uncertainty in unfamiliar height terrain, you stayed in control and remembered to stop, rest and break when needed to assist you physically in getting to the top instead of fear making you rush to the top. Great stuff, would love to try this one day!!

Terrific work pushing your limits and facing fear, Hannah. I have a horrible fear of heights and 2 weeks ago starting doing some autobelays and pushing my own limits, so I can totally understand many of the points you made about listening to your body and trying to consciously climb smart not hard. Let's Go! You got this!

Yes Hannah, you're really getting good at those big power moves! The commitment levels have gone up tremendously. You honestly seemed in the zone and controlled on that blue one that second time, which I don't think I ever would have seen a year ago. You've definitely improved a lot lately!

That was brilliant Hannah, I think we could all sense your anxiety listening to your breathing as you went higher. 😌👏 When I was younger and had no responsibilities I soloed a few limestones slabs and some routes in the Peak, but nothing that steep or hard, so I know how hard it is to control your mind.

An incredible film. Thanks so much for showing and sharing in depth thoughts on how you were feeling especially on the psicobloc. Your heel hooks are truly a thing of legend and definitely your special weapon, and your mindset is following suit. I love how you self-analyse as soon as you get down from a climb/boulder, a great skill in itself when most of us would just be gasping for breath and sweating cobblers! :)

Amazing work Hanna! Wanted to say that when dealing with higher falls you don't really want to practice too much. The idea is to fall on the back, however when you are in the angle change and you get more vertical, that really increases the probability of injuries (like ankles sprains and neck lashes), especially since it's on a mat and not on a pool, as psichoblocs usually are. There is more of a "fear management" training instead. It is about managing the fear, accepting its reactions more that trying to reduce its intensity. Improvement is quicker than for strength if things go right, however it's harder to start and it's relatively easy for things to be done wrong. Otherwise there would be no people afraid of falling!

Well done! Looked totally in control and did really well to control your fear. I know the feeling when you’re at the top of a boulder and you go for a hold that is worse than you expect. I think my heart would skip a beat in that scenario at that height. I’m impressed.

There are a lot of good climbing channels, but I think I have learned the most from your sessions with coaches and just watching you talk through your projects and fears. Psicobloc looks like a fun and safe way to overcome a fear of heights and practice soloing. I hope to get to try it someday 😊 cheers!

This is so, so impressive! I just tried auto belay for the first time this weekend and trusting it to catch me at the top when it felt like there was too much slack took a lot of effort (and tears), so to see you absolutely crush this beast of a climb while having that fear is really encouraging. Was on the edge of my seat the whole time, even said a little "come on hannah!" as you got to the top part of that blue lol

@TheValinov 9 ай бұрын
trusting an auto-belay was something whole new to you. its completly normal to be sceptical about it which can lead to fear. imo its also something different then trusting a climbing partner. if you repeat the "falling of" part you will completly forget about that fear - but only for like a day. it gets of course better the more often you practice it. but even pros sometimes jump into ropes to get back into good mental shape ;)

good stuff! actually got sweaty hands at the end just watching. I dont understand how youre starting to get relaxed before you completely finished the top-out. For me the final part, where you pull up your feet to the top of the boulder is always the worst part (even for smaller boulders), but you just start to relax before youre fully finished. anyways nice job, cant wait for the video with the 7a+ though ;)

I am so afraid of heights but I've fallen in love with bouldering 😅 and it makes me feel much better that sometimes even people that do it all the time get scared and choose to come down.
