Nhl hockey today - Connor bedard chicago blackhawks rookie season ended with a calder trophy for 98, but also a 2nd overall pick in the 2024 nhl draft . This team seems to want to take a step in their rebuild, so they have been absolutely wheeling and dealing with nhl trades and nhl free agency signings this offseason. Connor bedard highlights especially goals will be fun to watch with more talent around him like tyler bertuzzi teuvo teravainen taylor hall healthy and more. We talk chicago blackhawks 2024 - 25 and a bit of a retrospective of connor bedard rookie season highlights . For everything hockey including nhl news and rumors , trade reaction , nhl goals and highlights breakdowns during the season, rankings and more - stick with johnny hawkey. Nhl 2024

This drives me nuts sometimes. Just because a player is a star does not necessarily mean he will make a good Captain. Putting pucks in the net is a lot different than having great people skills and leadership ability
@20thCenturyManTrad
@20thCenturyManTrad Ай бұрын
There have been great Captains who were superstars, but also there have been guys may not have been, but were by far the best leaders. Like George Armstrong for the Leafs in the 1960s, or Alex Delvecchio in Detroit in the 60s, both of those players were great players, but they weren't the Superstar on their team. For Armstrong, Dave Keon and Frank Mahovlich were the Superstars up front and Tim Horton on the back end. Delvecchio was more of a star, but Gordie Howe who was arguably the greatest player to ever play the game (I can see arguments for Orr also). Even Bobby Orr, the greatest defenseman to ever play the game, was not the captain of his team, it was Johnny Bucyk, who was definitely the most deserving. This whole idea that the best player must be the captain is ludicrous.

From a hawks fan, I think Bedard and Kurashev will end up playing on the top line with bertuzzi, terravianen, and maybe even Hall if he's healthy. Contrary to most though, I think the Hawks need to shuffle Vlasic and Korchisnki with Jones on the top d pair. Korchisnki will eventually play with Levshunov as our future top pair, but giving Korchisnki that feel of top line minuets would be benefitial for his developmemt

No way kurashev is on the first line over teuvo and bertuzzi, you build up the teuvo Bert bedard chemistry because that’s your top 6 for the next 3 years I like kurashev but people over hype him because of him and bedards connection he’s gonna have to prove himself without bedard to stack up his points, also bedard needs a guy like teuvo that is a penalty killer and play maker aswell as bertuzzi who will stick up for bedard and go into the greasy areas. The only thing kurashev has over them in chemistry but you have to sacrifice that and build up the Chem for your possible first line for the next 3 years, a Bertuzzi bedard and kurashev line is a big defensive liability

100% agree about the captaincy. Let’s the guy learn how to play at an elite level before making him a captain. Don’t get me wrong, there are some young players that display incredible leadership qualities, but you can’t tell me that putting an A on their chest and letting a veteran carry the C is unreasonable. Hell, I love Sid, but he had the C too soon(although it didn’t backfire). Does Beds know how to lead an NHL team? Don’t pretend he does as a sophomore. He has immense potential, and could reach C by 3-5 years, but if the young talents are pushed into the C role too early they can’t learn from the best leaders. And I say this a man who has become a leader younger than most, in very different fields, but a leader nonetheless. I wanted leadership when I was very young, got denied because of my age, and now appreciate that it didn’t happen earlier. I never wanted it for ego, but knew I was capable. As I’ve gotten older, I still know I was always capable, but the responsibility is next level. Let go of the ego, let the veterans show you how it’s done. Trust in your peers to show you how to do it. I’d say you need at least 5-7 years experience to become a leader in whatever field you’re in. I’m always skeptical of very young captains. Skill and talent does not equal leadership. But I suppose promoting the new star is a moneymaker. 🤷‍♂️. And sometimes it works.
