@@stevenm6301 not actually firmware being updated or changed, infact want to update that as few times as possible as a single bit flip could brick the device if it really was firmware. I know DJI says firmware and lot of people just go along with it, it’s actually the software runs ontop that’s screwing everyone over and being updated to screw us over even harder. the firmware is much lower level, think like your computer’s bios/UEFI system vs OS running on the computer.. when updating windows or Mac to new big update, you are not updating firmware, just software but get all those new things. same Applies here. what’s really being updated and changed here is the software/OS running ontop.

The way to beat RID is to refuse to comply. This is a major security risk to those that have to comply due to 107 or who have to register their drone, but lawsuits are already in place regarding this issue and this rule has also seen the largest amount of feedback on FAA history (50k+ comments), and they don’t care.

yup. Peaceful protests because if no one does it then they know it's a bad law. They want you to be afraid of the fact that you can lose your license. Could you fight it in court. Of course you can and take it all the way to the supreme court. Also was the law implemented through the US Congress? If it was then yes you can get in trouble. If not then it's not a Constitutional law. Certain things are common sense and should be law but remote ID is almost like a test drive of a Remote ID for future cars.

well you should tell that to people who do stupid things like putting drones into the flight paths of manned aircraft for tiktok videos. this guy just broke at least a couple of trespassing laws by flying his drown over some one else's property let alone if the home own wants to press invasion of privacy charges( imagine banging Ms.Peter Massee in your back yard and this thing flying over your house). A simple google search and you find 100s of cases of peeping toms now using drowns to spy on women in apartment buildings Remote ID makes it easier to find and prosecute these individuals. These laws suits are likely to go no where. because 1 you do not have a constitutional right to purchase or fly a drone and two the FAA has complete jurisdiction and often given broad latitude to police and insure safety in US air space. Much like how people of a certain amendment get punished harshly for the stupidity and criminality of a few. We RC pilots and drone pilots are going to get nailed too.

You're right the government is 2 steps ahead of the public on this one. They fully intend to make drone ownership so difficult you give up and surender your drone. But....If you really don't like it you should challenge the FAA on the grounds they are violating your 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms. The wars in Syria and now Ukraine have shown beyond any doubt drones are arms. The government is well aware of this and the rules they are trying to place on drone owners reflect it. FAA has even went so far as to sight "national security issues" as a justification for remote ID.... As arms your right to own and operate drones free of government registries, fees and or having to inform the government where you are is protected by the 2nd amendment. Both registration and remote ID clearly run a foul of Supreme Court precedent regarding arms.

Not even close. 😂 People have been flying fixed wings forever. You actually think "companies" are just going to up and try and kill the RC hobby? You think a company is actually going to help put themselves out of business? Because that's what would happen to DJI. Do you actually think the government will pick them to make drones for them? 😂 DJI has to conform with the new laws of the United States. Simple as that. They're not forcing remote ID on you, the government is. Where DJI was deceitful in all of this is how they sold a million units (don't know the real number) and didn't say anything, and then after people's return period was up they do this remote ID update. Almost like a bait and switch. I know if I had purchased the Avata and they did this crap and I couldn't return it, I would be livid. DJI knew the remote ID thing would change people's minds about buying the Avata and so they hid it until after 30 days, and that's where the deceit comes in. This other conspiracy theory you guys have come up with is nonsense though. For one, that wouldn't kill the hobby, it would just push people to DIY, so your theory just doesn't make sense in any aspect. Edit: My recommendation for a used drone is an Evo 2 pro. It was my first and will be my last consumer drone. I would buy one now though. The prices will go up once every other drone has remote ID and geofencing.

The more regulations they add, the more people will simply begin to ignore them. If you make doing something legally overcomplicated, they're just going to do it illegally (especially when there is essentially zero enforcement mechanism). And while you cannot go "backward" in terms of firmware, I would bet my last nickel that if DJI becomes too restrictive, there will eventually be jailbreaking apps developed by the developer community.

Agreed. When people don't buy, then the big guys at companies with deep wallets get involved and fight the big fights because they want to stay in business. Honestly, I have no idea what the propensity is for having an FAA inspector stop and check whether your firmware is up to date but I suspect so long as someone isn't being a complete arse or violating other regs, it's pretty low. I'm also not sure but I suspect that they also need a warrant to demand access to your phone. Alternatively, claim ignorance. Though that is generally not an acceptable excuse for violating the law, when coupled with being cooperative and decent to the officer, it will almost always result in a warning rather than a citation.

@@Thunderbyrd. yup, that is the "plan". The corporatists want corporate control of everything and if they get their way the only drones flying will belong to Amazon, Walmart, etc. The last thing these corporate entities want is an airspace crowded by civilian traffic because that would interfere with their revenue stream. Sure the FAA is looking out for air traffic issues, but in the end they are really just slowly clearing the airspace for corporations to get rid of human delivery of products and goods so they can maximize profit.....just think how many jobs would be eliminated with drone fleets performing delivery service, I know it sounds "conspiracy theory" but the legal obligation of a publicly traded company is to maximize shareholder profit, and the easiest and fastest way to do that is to eliminate human jobs.....and the easiest way to eliminate the millions of human delivery jobs is with automated drones, but drone delivery service would be hampered with civilian human air traffic clogging up the lower airspace.....the simplest fix there is to make drone flying difficult and cumbersome to the point that it's not fun and people would then stop doing it, freeing up the airspace for Amazon/etc to scale up their drone delivery service.

So, in the meantime, where is the requirement that I run the latest firmware and/or app? For me the question is academic. I've become a 90% Autel guy because of DJI's intrusive regulation. I'm not a DJI fanboy, but yes I do own their products, and yes I do make money while using them. Everyone can piss and moan about DJI and remote-id, and buy some other product, but remote-id, is going to be a requirement for all new purchases. regardless of manufacturer. Remote id, to me, differs little from having a transponder in an airplane which is an FAA mandate for most of the airspace in the US. If you don't want to play, I'm not addressing you Ken, then don't don't fly or fly a simulator and shut up. The choices seem pretty simple. DJI's implementation right now, at least with theAavata, seems a bit crude, but I have to believe future releases with be a bit more refined, but who knows. Until then, ride your motorcycle without a helmet, don't wear a seat belt, drive with 1 headlight, make sure your tires are worn down to the steel, buy a smokin' diesel, make sure you're one toke over the line, drive drunk, and screw the speed limits, cause this is 'murica. The one thing I can think of more annoying is having to take two pairs of goggles when you go flying. In DJIs defense, whenever there is a news article about drone misuse, it’s a good bet that the picture will be of DJIs most popular drone even though it’s less likely a DJI drone due to the steps DJI has taken to prevent some illegal flights. But, I have a question about DJI that, so far, I have not been able to get answered. I fly a Phantom IV Pro Plus. Right now, it is non RID compliant. Does anyone know if DJI is planning to update all models' firmware? I have not received any notices and I know if DJI doesn't upegrade, then I will need to buy an add-on module.

That's exactly why I never updated anything on my Mavic Gen I since I cracked the box over 3 years ago.......

The real question is what does the reg consider "ready to fly out of the box" and how can manufacturers get around this? Does attaching the props count as not ready to fly? What about screwing on the arms or another piece of the body? Drones that aren't "ready to fly out of the box" are NOT currently subject to this reg from what I've heard

Great video and very informative. Are there any open source drone plans or kits out there?

Dont need this in Sweden yet i think. And i hope they dont get this here either. But most people dont register there drones here either. And that sucks i register my mini2 before first flight. But all the other drones are to expensive anyways for me. But im glad to have my first drone and its a mini 2 and i still learning everyday. Huge Thanks To all your content amazing to learn everything you upload. And you do it in a fun way so a 41 year old man with adhd stay listen on all things you have to say. That i didnt do when my teachers talk in school 😂😂😂🙈 Happy new year Ken hope you get a amazing year 2023. I hope one day that i can travel to Usa thats on of my biggest dreams that will come hopefully someday in the future. All is so expensive when you have ptsd and cant work for the moment. Stay safe take care Best wishes from Sweden 🇸🇪🇺🇸👍🏼💪🏻😊💪🏻

Since I installed…my connection has gotten interrupted multiple times. It was flawless before. Once time yesterday, the video screen froze and it was only 150 feet directly above. The newest firmware clearly changed something that had an effect on my transmission.

Another thing dji could do is not store all the damn files on my phone. 13gb of dji files. Slows the phone down and I’m sure it’s affecting dji avata performance. They definitely manipulate flights to cause crashes undoubtedly
