Hey guys, here is a tutorial for a fun and fooling effect I call Weighted Average. This effect is a versatile thought-of-card effect that can be used in a standalone routine or combined with other effects. I really appreciate you taking some time to watch this tutorial. It’s filled with detail because it needs to be. There is so much that goes into convincing sleight of hand and deception. I implore you to watch it all as even if you’re more experienced, there will be something for you to take away from this. Enjoy!

What is fantastic is the fact that your key card is well disguised by the pseudo weight of the cards. The beauty of the method is that the spectator really can’t imagine that when he counts to the number of cards corresponding of the value of his card, he gives you the position of his card. Really great idea !

Hey Reid, great vid. On an unrelated note, I commented a few weeks back on a propless mentalism tutorial and I wanted to let you know that I had great success with it at my nephews wedding recently. I also figured out an amazing kicker that goes with it so well, in fact it came to me when I missed their card (it was the king of hearts and I guessed the queen) and asked what the original card was that they were thinking of. Oh the nine of diamonds? How odd because their one card turned over in this pack (invisible deck) - holy smokes it killed !! It also works great when you do guess the correct card and really doubles the effect. Thanks for the inspiration! They all think uncle Fred is truly magic now 😊✌️

Wow thanks so much Fred! That’s really awesome to hear I’m glad you enjoyed performing it and it’s made you the cool magic uncle haha! 😎 Love that as an out, truly a great idea to use the originally thought of card. So many ways to save it with this such as a card to pocket or invisible deck as you mentioned. Really smart thinking I’ll have to do some work on other outs with this idea. Thanks man!!🙏🏻

@@ReidFerry You're very welcome man! I was pretty proud of it to be honest and the dude was like "I'll be thinking of that all night" and was telling everyone about it 😎 I was wondering if you have any tips when they ask you to do it again, because once a trick, twice a lesson. I don't have a huge arsenal of tricks and I feel it's too transparent to repeat.

I have three different methods that accomplish the same effect, but the prestation takes way less time and eliminates all the dealing. But thanks for the idea...

There’s probably a hundred different ways you could do this effect and every other effect in existence. Here is just another method that I think has been tied up beautifully in this presentation. The dealing isn’t necessary really it’s just a presentational point. I could do this method in 60 seconds but I think the beauty of this piece is in the scripting and presentation.

Hi again Reid, thanks for another great tutorial. I was a little surprised you preference the key card system as this could be spotted by other magicians. I preferred the first option. Kelvin.TOB

Thanks man! I don’t prefer the key card, perhaps I misspoke but I definitely like the original routine most!

Thank you for sharing! A question: What will you do, when there are by chance other cards, that lie on such places? E. g. the participant's10 of hearts lies in the tenth position, but there is also a 5 of spades lies in the fifth position.

As soon as you ask the participant to close their eyes for an extended period of time all the magic of a trick is gone

Not true, completely depends on the routine. Some yes that is true, think of a sleight of hand piece. This effect is so fair they could go into another room and it’s still magical that you can find their card

@@ReidFerry I think they mean the presentation, the trick is not strong enough to merit that much time to get to the climax. This effect shouldn't take longer than 1 minute and there is a bit too much dealing and card fiddling...
