Exactly! Generally speaking, Bisaya is a language that has different dialects spoken across luzon, visayas and mindanao. I speak Masbate Bisaya from Luzon which is a dialect of the Visayan Language. Unless we will specify an exact variation of it, it's a language.

Agree, that's a language with many dialects and with much more native speakers compared to Tagalog or Kapampangan. Useless ang Tagalog at Kapampangan mo sa VIS-MIN unlike sa Bisaya na meron ka mahahanap hanggang sa pinaka Northern part ng pinas. This is coming from me na hindi Bisaya.❤

@@kashmirilkyeott3117 You can start from formal language. After that, try to change "tidak to enggak/nggak/gak", "aku to gua/gue", and "kamu to lo/lu" for informal conversation in Jakarta. You can try learning how to use affix for informal conversation (nge/ny- and -in) in conversations. It will be better if you know how to use "affirmative particles" (sih, dong, tah, etc). Indonesian people can understand formal languages although we only use it for literature, journalism, formal speech, education, and formal events. Indonesian formal language is almost similar with "Melayu Baku" in Malaysia. After learning Indonesian language, it will be easier to learn Malaysian Malay dialects or Indonesian Malay dialects.

It's been an ongoing movement of some kind to educate the difference between languages and dialects. It can be quite confusing at times but a language is a unique and specific method of communication belonging to a country/community while a dialect is sub category of a language specific to a region. For example, there are various versions of English such as Filipino English, American English, British English, Australian English, and so on. There may be differences here and there when it comes to slang or certain words but all English speakers will generally understand each other. But if two people cannot understand each other with whatever method of communication they have then that is a language. It's not an iron clad rule but It's a safe assumption to distinguish which is which.

Those polyglots learn the languages to a certain speakable level usually it's A2, B1 just to cover some basic conversational needs but think of this: a child with no language knowledge, fully immersed, usually learns the spoken and written parts of a language in not less than 10 years, that's about the real amount of time needed to master a language
@alanguages
@alanguages 3 ай бұрын
Most of the polyglots don't master languages, due to the reason they wouldn't be polyglots if they did. Most polyglots also don't have mastery level as their goal. I do agree with you by the way.

Me acting like I don’t care and understand but the truth is I’m absorbing all the negative thoughts thoroughly.

@@aljohnpolyglot yeah! Thx sa reply🥹 for vocabulary’s expansion pwede naman mag alternates between languages, pero with it comes to building or constructing sentences hindi nakakatulong kung mag iisip ka pa sa tagalog bago ka mag-shift sa ibang language. Lastly, always remember the 4 most fundamental method of studying languages Listening Speaking Reading Writing Pag matatatag ang listening comprehension mo, Kaya mong sabihin as it is kung ano ang naririnig mo kahit hindi mo pa naiintindihan. Then you move forward sa readings, either for reseach or just pure reading para sa vocabulary expansion and last na ang pagsusulat.

Correct me po if I am wrong.

I'd say exploring the other languages that is used as a base like Indian and Arabic would go well as Tagalog already use those 2 much like how it is so much simpler to learn English and Spanish as a Filipino speaker as those 2 are the 2 parts of 3 of Filipino. Now, I'm not quite sure about modern Indian but I can attest with modern Arabic that there are still some words that are applicable to Tagalog. But I can definitely hear that the South East still use an Indian accent.

I saw the "masarap ang pagkain" part and immediately the first thing I thought when the other girl host said the Indonesian translation is like Kapampangan is how similar the word for food is. Makanannya - Mangan(to eat), if you change nga into ka, you get Makan which I assume might also be to eat in Indonesian. I guess that annya is a suffix to change the meaning like how Pa in Pamangan is. It's all based on my thoughts tho so feel free to correct me.

Bisaya means any of the Visayan languages more specifically Illongo, Cebuano, or Waray. They are languages in their own right just like Kapampangan, Tagalog, Ilocano, Bicolano. Two people are speaking different languages when they cannot carry a conversation speaking only their respective tongues. A Tagalog person cannot understand Cebuano unless they speak it. Therefore, they are separate languages. Dialects are varieties of a language. Portuguese in Brazil and in Portugal have differences but they are essentially speaking the same language.

Languages are broader, and dialects are smaller and more specific, and often regional. Languages are thought of as more formal and clearly defined, whereas dialects can be looser and more fluid in use. Oftentimes, languages are adopted as “official” by countries and states, but dialects rarely are

The distinction between a dialect and a language is often subjective and can be influenced by sociopolitical factors. Generally, a language is a broader system of communication with its own grammar and vocabulary, while a dialect refers to a variety of a language spoken in a particular region or by a specific group. Sometimes, the difference is more political than linguistic, and what is considered a dialect in one context might be seen as a separate language in another.

Rule of thumb: if you can't understand 80% of what they're saying, then that's a different language altogether. Tagalog, Bisaya, Kapampangan, Waray, Chavacano, Illongo, etc, are all languages. They are not mutually intelligible - meaning a Tagalog speaker won't understand a Bisaya speaker automatically. And in comparison, Batangeno is a dialect of Tagalog because speakers have the same base language with regional differences in select terms and differences in accent.
