I'm n the states in west TN and all I seen was your title. The Oase biomaster series, especially the thermo is by far one of my favorite filters I've ever used. It's a bit pricey but the craftsmanship and thought that went into these filters is amazing. I only have one and I've had mine for over 2 years now and it still runs like new. An amazing filter to say the least and the ease of the pre-filter is top notch. Don't gotta watch this video to comment on this lol

I have the 600, and even though it filters great, mine has a low hum that is very loud. Even with the tv on you can hear it. Needless to say i'm looking for a new "quieter" canister.

I was running a Tidal 110 on my 45 gallon living room tank for about 4 years. It was just too noisy. I replaced it a few weeks ago with a 350 Biomaster Thermo. This filter is so quiet I need to visually check the flow to make sure it’s actually running. The prefilter and heater being in the canister minimizes the equipment on the back wall of the tank making it much more visually appealing and makes for easier maintenance. There are plenty of new canisters out on the market now but Oase seems to be the only company that has done anything innovative. It’s different…..not just a me too.

I have found that using filter floss means more maintenance, being that it traps almost everything. My goal is to keep from having to ever crack open my canister unless I notice a reduction in flow. I love how this filter has the pre filter for easier maintenance. I also love how everyone has their own way/style in keeping fish. Keep up the great videos and store.

Thanks for turning me on to this brand of filter. I couldn't really tell how well it will fit under a regular store bought 125 cabinet stand but I will measure that. I love the internal heater. And the pre filter deal. Man I don't see how you have such beautiful tanks without using the Bio media. Sponge filters are ok for some. I don't like the noise from the bubbles. And they just seem so dirty when in the tank and not just in the filter. But you definitely know your stuff. Anyway thanks again, I appreciate all your videos.

@Peregrine1989

So the OVERALL reason is that the Pump isn't quite powerful enough for a filter that size. The Syphon inflow usually isn't as fast as the pump outflow and this causes depressurization that lets disolved gases escape the water, with also the negative pressure causing a VERY SMALL amount of air getting in from the seals. As such their is a list of things you can do 1) If you have the smaller sizes, put a filter head from the larger pumps on the smaller filter. This will ALWAYS fix the problem but is an expensive solution. 2) The tube in the pre-filter can have extra holes drilled into it, thus making the water flow into the spongers more smoothly. 2a)The pre-filter spongers should be the Lowest PPI they sell. Oase has largely released this themselves and ususally they come as standard, but thats not true of the older ones. 3)Keep the intake and return as short as you can, with the return run being most important. 4)Change the flow of water on the outflow to be slower using the dials 5)Clean the Prefilter regularly 6) Reinforce the place where the intake and return attach to the canister OR look up Oase guide on how they should be screwed on and follow it exactly 7) Use a silicon grease on your o-rings to improve the seal. 8)Drill a small hole at the top of the prefilter. I REALLY don't like this option myself personally, as if done wrong can increase the risk of leaks.... but if the air escapes itself, it has no need to purge. Most people report doing a list of 2,3,4 and 5 is ususally enough, although 6 and 7 can help in extreme cases.

I've been using Oase BioMasters for a few years now and I love them, for three reasons: they perform reliably, they're easy to maintain, and they're quiet as death. I have two display tanks in my living room, both running BioMasters (including one with an 850), and the only way I even know the filters are running is from the water movement out of the lily pipes. These filters are a little pricey, but they're solid, quality products.

Hi Jason, I have the smaller 250 on a planted 55 running for 2 years now. Other than air purging every now and then, no issues. I have an inline CO2 arts diffuser, and the plants grow very well. The pre-filter is awesome. I clean it under tap water every 2 weeks or so. I will be honest, I clean the inside of the canister once a year. No issue. The pre-filter and integrated heater is the key to this filter.

its a good idea to put a prefilter sponge on the intake cause otherwise the prefilter on the canister can get clogged pretty quick, I clean that off everytime i clean the tank and i only do the prefilter once a year, it is kind of a pain to do when you have the filter in a cabinet that isnt tall enough to remove it. Also nice you can set the heater up in the tank first so you can see when it turns on and off to get the temp dialed in right where you want it then put it in the canister. For those of us without a fishroom it works out really well to cut up the sponge to fit in a hang on back so you have cycled media for a hospital or a quarentine tank. The biggest advantage to me is you can feed that filter for a few weeks then put all your fish in a tub and easily put that filter on the tub and fish will have everything they need while you redo your tank entirely and then you can put everything back without concern about your cycle.

A few weels ago, I had to decide between the Biomaster 850 and an Aquael 2000 Ultramax. The defining factor for me was how much more expensive the Biomaster was compared to the Aquael (about 33% more). I also prefered the simple design of the Aquael, able to cut my own sponges a lot easier than the Oase. I still want to give a big Oase filter a good try but just haven't been able to justify it just yet.

They are pricey but you get what you pay for. You could take out all the sponges and replace with matrix and be set. It's not the mechanical filtration that makes a difference imo but biological filtration and the biomaster is a beast. Plus it houses a pre-filter and the thermometer if you get the thermo. I'm a guy that's a paycheck to paycheck kinda guy sadly, and I only own 1 biomaster thermo for my main tank. It's only 30gal but I made sure that if I was going to build a nice tank for my living room that I was going to have the best in everything lol.

Jason, Great filter reviews but a difference when a company sends them to you for free and having to buy one. They canister filters like most of them are really pricey and usually out of range for most fish keepers. I went with the tidal filters on all my tanks because canisters are just way too much money. Even on my 100 gal CA / SA tank I added 2 Tidal 110s and have no issues with water filtration. ❤😢

The 350 heater is held aside as a back-up. Fantastic! Crystal clear water with sponges and media only. I hope you thought of having enough head room under your tank to be able to remove the pre filter for cleaning without having to move the entire canister. The 250 lives under the tank. If the canister filter is 22 inches tall and the pre-filter pulls out vertical from the top that would mean you would need a minimum of 44-in vertical under the tank to remove the filter. I don't think anyone has a tank that far off the ground so the filter will have to be located away from the tank to use the pre-filter.

Sorry but they're an ok filter at best. Flow isnt great, they burp air a fair bit after a few months use and they're expensive. The aquael ultramax filters 1500/2000 are, imo, a far superior filter and a lot cheaper

Why too complicated. You shouldn’t have to get the manual out to service or be a strong person to lift it.

You don’t. This filter is no more complicated than any other canister filter. It just has much better features. The integrated carry handle makes moving it very easy…no need to be “strong”.
