its not supposed to remove taste, just bacteria. And for those who don't think it is reliable, WFP (part of the UN) uses lifestraws to help supply clean drinking water in places where it is not easily accessable. it works.

Remember! Even when using a life straw, be sure to boil before drinking. The life straw gets rid of dirt, rocks, leaf particals ect but boiling gets rid of bacteria!

the lifestraw is used as emergencies where u can instantly use and drink out of it and getting drinking water accessible if the environment has no safe drinking water. u wouldnt get easy access to drinking water or get equipment to strain and boil, the water if u were stranded. (remember to blow the straw after every use if u get this so it removes leftover gunk)

The point of a life straw isn't to make it taste clean it's to filter out the stuff that bad for you, so it will probably still taste dirty unlike tap water. But it will be safe to drink.

Something to keep in mind when using these- if you use a lifestraw in below freezing weather, it will freeze and damage the filter causing the water to not be safe. This happened to me and I ended up with some sort of water born illness. Just a heads up!

It will not freeze due to their being no water in it. It will however become cold. Repeat this with a sheet of metal, And you will notice the same thing. How can something with no water in it freeze genius? lol.

For everyone saying “the water needs to be boiled!” No. No it doesn’t. The whole point of the straw is to filter out the bacteria/dirt/etc, so you don’t need to boil the water, the convenience of the straw is that you can just go up to a stream and drink from it. Coming from a guy that’s used it on many hiking trips, I’m still alive.

@@ozordiprince9405 Boiling might be tricky, but a jungle is more than enough to filter a very muddy water. It consists of a few layers, goes from coarse to fine materials(For instance; from little peblets to fine sand/ash). But for the boiling yes it's tricky but not impossible, if there are bamboos or such flora around, water may be boiled in it by just filling them in with water and holding it on fire. Same can be done with plants like bamboos. Or, you could make a cup out of bark. Or pottery. We've survived through dirt and ash our whole life. Surely it is possible.

The important thing to remember is types of filtration. The LifeStraw is simply a size filtration device. It will remove bacteria protozoa's but it will not remove very small organisms such as viruses. The other thing it does not do is carbon filtrate or dionization. So any chemicals or toxins are still in the water. For example if you use it to filter piss you're going to get very clean and filtered piss.

In my highschool, STEM, we do a project each semester, which has 60% of our grade depending on it. Last semester's project was about designing a wastewater purification system. We suffered a lot trying to at least get rid of the apparent suspensions and color and you now come to show me a-few-inches plastic thing that just simply screws all of our work !!! I'm impressed by how life keeps pissing me off. Edit: I don't want to be that kind of people, but thanks for the likes, guys. Depends on what your focus was. If it's industrial scale you are better off using sedimentation and bacteria culture treatment system. For low volume emergency use case microfilter and reverse osmosis works best.
