One of the funniest thing that happened to me. I make mods for a game on Steam and published them on the Steam Workshop. People truly enjoy my mods for real, and I happen to get friend invitations on Steam that I often accept. I'm from Brazil, but most of people I get friend invitations are either from Europe or US, and its amazing to talk to them. Once I got a guy from US that the first thing he wanted to ask me was if I supported Joe Biden or Trump. It was really weird, but I tried to be polite and explained to him that since I'm not from US I really didn't matter. He insisted, so I eventually said I did support Trump. The guy mad with me, removed me as a friend from Steam and pretty much unsubbed to my mods on the workshop. That was a really over the top experience.

And there you have it, living proof of what I've been saying for a decade: People "educated" to create games are not fit for making games. They've been taught theory and no practice, they make ideas of games, not actual games and the reason is that they have no life experience to convey. This is part of 'Developer Entitlement Syndrome', an umbrella term I use for current day developers who get upset when you don't play their games right and no longer consider their customers important in any other way than to milk them for money.

Hating gamers is not a problem. I work in IT and I hate my clients. What's difference between me and those game devs is that when I make a product it's the one those clients want.

What's so funny about Fable is that appearance is a core game mechanism. If you do bad, you look bad. If you do good, you look good. If you're ugly no matter what, then that aspect of the game is gone.

On the Dragon Age gameplay reveal there was constant pride flag spam and it was just made by the same 40-50 people out of an audience of 80.000, they're an extreme minority, just exceedingly obnoxious. If they think those people are going to make them filthy rich they're in for a rude awakening.

The fact that this "game dev" criticized dislike for Dragon Age: Failguard is indicative of Wokeist Kool-Aid drinking. Just one look at what they did to the Darkspawn should be enough to understand why gamers don't like the trailer. Turned them from ogre-ish horror monsters to cartoonish clowns.

One of the few times ugly characters made sense was Vermintide 2. Warhammer is an ugly brutal universe, so it made sense that the characters were a reflection of that. Even the character Kerillian that is supposed to be classically beautiful elf has her face covered and off-putting black eyes.

There was a thread on First Descendant forums of some dude complaining that there're no black characters in that game. And another black dude said, that he doesn't expect a Korean game to necessarily have a (playable) black character in it. That to me is an adequate human being and a real gamer and i feel a fellowship towards someone like this.

Cis may not have been a slur when it was first used in academia, but it's absolutely a slur now. For every 1 academic use of it, I see 20 slur usages. It's said in always sneering tones, and it sounds like "cyst" or "sissy", and I've seen both those connotations be used.

A big problem with many modern game devs is they think all gamers want to see themselves perfectly represented in games. They think that if you're an albino trans-woman Native American in a wheelchair that you're going to want your game avatar to be an albino trans-woman Native American in a wheelchair. They seem to have no concept that a person might want to ROLEPLAY as something else in a game. I've been playing computer games for the better part of nearly 50 years now and I have NEVER once wanted my in-game avatar to look 100% identical to me.

Can someone please start a consulting company called "Sweet Gamer Inc." that does nothing more than fires any game dev or PR manager that tries to push their own agendas on the their customers. "Who is your audience? What does your audience want? Give me $7 million, thank you."

That person isn't a Professional game designer. John Carmack, Cliff Bleszinski, Sid Mier, those were professional game designers. They were the Rockstar persona of game design and wouldn't have bothered discussing this stuff as it is a waste of time and a break in focus of doing what they did.

I saw woke people on the MGS reddit try to tell people Vamp was problematic and needed to be changed. It was so stupid I dont even think I could articulate the argument off memory. I tried to find it but I think the thread got closed. Somehow these people convinced themselves that Vamp didnt present the way their idealogy "allows" (i.e seen as too hetero) that he needed to be changed. If a "game designer" hates gamers then they are in the wrong line of work, them hating the folks they are designing for means the product will be negatively effected. It is bad enough we have wokeness blanketing why games are bad but to have the folks making them hate the ones they are making them for just adds to the issue of why games aren't as good. There are more reasons as it is nuanced issue but still would help if those two things weren't as prevalent. Also want to point out Cyberpunk 2077 (was crap on release but got better especially now with the new DLC and patches/bug fixes) is very DIE but it doesn't really throw it in your face and is a good game that can include a majority. It was a table top rpg orginally which we all know when those were popping it was made for dudes because they were the majority audience. The modernization of the franchise was done well (probably because the creator still has all rights and was heavily involved in the making).

I was swimming at a river and two middle schoolers floated by being unrecorded, away from their parents and pretty candid and I hadn’t heard that many gamerwords since Xbox live in the 2000s. Not a thing has changed. It’s even more taboo now due to all the artificial rules people have instilled so it’s more tempting now I’d imagine.

The gaming industry has become so Hollywoodized where every part of the industry is either promoting the same political message or they are neutral. You can't just put politics in the industry and then supress others for having different opinions and expect people not to get mad.

Hey. Mid-40s "aging male gamer" (any male gamer is an aging male gamer, btw) here. Console gamer in the 80s (Atari 2600 to NES/SNES by the end of the decade), PC gamer in the 90s, mix of consoles and PC since 2000, on and off. My original crop of fave PC games in the early-mid 90s include the Dooms, Quakes, X-Coms, Syndicates, X-Wing 'n' TIE Fighters, System Shocks, Diablos, etc. I'm forgetting a ton. well, Half-Life (by 1998 or so, not really early-mid 90s anymore). Nowadays I'm usually playing Fallout 4 (the Amazon Prime show got me back into Fallout after years away) or Stardew Valley on my couch on the ol' PS4... but I could be playing them on PC as well, I just prefer couch gaming to office chair gaming these days whenever possible, tho I do miss the mouse+keyboard. I just play what I want to play where/when/how I want to play it. Don't most people? My wife can play Doom (2016) while I play Stardew. Takes all kinds.
