Anna's problem is that she thinks according to the opponent's rating. We have seen going for draws at very promising position against better rating and losing to lower rated players by playing risky. A famous grandmaster of the past was once asked with whom is he going to play on the next round of a tournament and he responded ''I have the black pieces against white'' . This is what everybody should think about during a game.

Ratings are relevant though if someone has a much higher rating it’s going to affect how you approach the game and as well with lower rated players

I agree, in fact when I play online against random people I try not to look at the name and ELO of the other player. I just want to focus on what happens on the board

Rating is how well you played last month. Now if a player is 50 and has been floating for decades, then sure. Their rating is how good they are. But when it comes to young players, they could easily be way better than their rating because a month is about a third of their entire life.

I don't think Anna's problem here is underestimating her opponent it is more that I feel she tends to overthink in blitz games, calculating numerous moves making her get in time trouble which makes her accidentally blunder her pieces

ive watched 15 or 20 of anna's blitz games and it always seems like she takes way too much time early... White or black she is always a minute or more behind by mid game... Which usually puts her in serious pressure for end game, which she blunders half the time... Still worlds ahead of me, but just something i noticed

I like this format of real-time commentary/analysis of a blitz game. Not sure if the music helps or hurts - it ratchets up the tension nicely but is also unnatural to the situation. Also, I agree with other commenters here - if you're using your competitors for content then you really should do them the courtesy of mentioning their name in the video and the description (unless they have asked not to be named, of course). It's simple manners.

During the whole game, I said to myself that she had to play Kh1 otherwise with the lack of time there would be a blunder, unfortunately that happened. It's a lesson that I learned from several defeats, when you play f3 or f4 move the king to h1

a discovered check doesn’t have to be a line piece, a knight can get you on h1. I think it’s situational, but it’s definitely important to be aware of what pieces are connected to your king via line piece squares all the time.

I've never been good at playing chess, mostly because I hate remembering positions and I might be not the greatest strategist to put it slightly. When I was in my best, somehow I ended up in my province / state chess tournament and ended up (after 5 rows of games) in a game with the top 3 in the province. I didn't expected to win and I didn't, but after the game she said I was a challange and that it's a pitty that I'm not playing regularely in tournaments. This was like 20 years ago and I've never forgotten that compliment.

Also, the more I watch your videos, the more I start to realize that after a certain rating threshold winning is not about your "hard" chess skills anymore, but about your "soft" skills such as the ability to stay grounded... @@jfergs.3302 Yeah time trouble is an incredible thing. I play 1 minute bullet chess everyday, and you will not even believe during how many games I will forget to look at the clock even ONCE. @Dakodii

It’s her calculation. It causes her time trouble because she miscalculates everything. She needs to work on square control and candidate move calculation. Something happens that she doesn’t expect like Ra7 in this game and she has to start all over again. (After calculating the wrong line she thought the opponent would play).

@Dakodii
@Dakodii 11 күн бұрын
Qxd4 is ok. The engine wanted Bd6 which forces a trade of the dark squared bishops and then recaptures with a fork on the black queen and light squared bishop. You then eventually recapture the pawn with Qxd4. This happens to be amazing for white as their king is under dark square control, they gain a knight further in enemy ranks, they are up tempo, and got the pawn back. This is insanely hard to figure out in a game though, that’s why the engine is the engine. And why a move like Bd6 is winning and exd4 lost any advantage white had.

At 1:04 it’s interesting. I’m never seen anyone castle this way before. She moves her King first - from memory it’s required (if you touch your Rook first you technically can’t castle in “touch-move” I believe) - but then loops her rook behind the King to occupy the Bishop square. But the Rook move is kind of a nifty little maneuver I think. I’ve never seen anyone do it quite this way before. (All chess players have their “signature moves” I think. Like one cool one is when taking, lifting the captured piece first and using the same hand move your piece to the captured square. Some guys will “click” the pieces for emphasis.). (As a side note the girl doesn’t seem “cocky” but she seems to have real confidence in her ability. It’s like she’s played this game a thousand times before since she moves fairly quickly.)

Anna: I would like to respectfully suggest that you try a few games where you do whatever you need to do NOT to know what your opponent's rating is. Be blissfully ignorant of their rating! You sometimes think a game will be easy or hard based on your opponent's rating but then you are surprised because they played differently from your expectations. Put a blindfold on as far as your opponent's rating is concerned! Forget your opponent! Just play the pieces! As Bobby Fischer once said: "All that matters on the chessboard is good moves!" (Just a suggestion! I love watching your games and listening to your commentary! So thank you!)
