Belted tires are going to be needed by the looks of it. Also, I'd run the cage without the body as that body will catch alot of air at higher speeds. As for diffs, I'd say heavier fluid, but I'm really uncertain on that.
@tjkj-om9oi2 жыл бұрын
I would start with 1 million oil in the front and rear diffs, if it has a center diff I would go 2+ million oil for the center. You could also stuff some silicon ear plugs in each diff, one or 2 depending on size, and that would give a "soft locker" type of action and no oil required. I would also look for some belted tires, will greatly help with control at speed.

@gmballistic5062 жыл бұрын
In my Losi SBR 2.0 set up for speed on hard surfaces I run 2 million CST oil in centre and 500K CST oil in front & rear. I would adjust your rear shock lower mounting point to the last hole closest to the rear diff as this will lower the ride height/centre of gravity. I also changed shock oils to a thicker oil for more dampening. To reduce the ballooning on my own SBR 2.0 I removed the tyres, turned them inside out and then wrapped them with thick duct tape so. You then turn the tyres back the right way and reattach to the beadlocks and it should act more like a belted tyre that way.

Asphalt speed RC car WR, a very ambitious goal: does everything, preps wheels, diff, suspension to insane precision, ads carbon or titanium parts, precision made carbon wings, perfect pass and giro for absolute stability and torque control Off-road speed RC car WR, an actual and surprisingly, possibly a fairly easy to attain goal for him: no wheel prep, no diff prep, no reinforced parts, no special wings or body prep or even a body, no perfect pass, no gyro... Classic :D

I’ll 3rd that and I don’t know the truck that well. Can the diffs be filled with fluid? If so try 100k-500k diff fluid in the rear and I would put 1 million CST diff fluid in the front.

Hi Raz, contrary to popular belief I found that a locked up solid rear diff made my sc trucks more unstable at high speeds on gravel and damp sand. Sure, agree with other folks on belted tyres. Good luck man, would like to see what you setup and how it will survive the tests. Its going to be a great project to follow.
@ianbudgetrc25742 жыл бұрын
I Raz I guess the most stable to do an offroad speed run with is the mojave V1 or V2. It's lighter than the SBR but also heavier and more stable than the typhon and kraton offroad. Can't wait to see you make one!
@Pablo6682 жыл бұрын
Bloody hell Raz, fun to watch at least. I think you need to start with the wheels, after a certain point you are driving on saw blades again. Ummm, for what this car is supposed to do, I think you really need to test off-road and set up for that. Great vid, look forward to the next part.
@johnymodem13262 жыл бұрын
Loved the vid :) Surprised the tires didn't blow out. :) As speed increases the contact gets smaller. You could say exactly opposite to your "normal" car where down-force created by the aerodynamics increases the contact area (however slightly). I think once you have the imbalance created by tires increasing any "slight" change is going to have an amplifying effect. Good luck with this build. I am going to enjoy watching you conquer this mountain. Keep up the great work. :)

I recommend stronger springs, and thicker fluid in the diffs. After upgrading my Mojave with a Max 6, 1750 kv combo, I had a MAJOR problem trying to drive it straight for top speed runs. It looked almost exactly like your truck did when I would try to go full throttle. After upgrading to stiffer springs, front and rear, it made the truck MUCH more manageable and will actually track straight now and/or not fight nearly as much against steering input. You know enough about the other issues with the tires/etc that I won't comment about those.
@PatClevenger2 жыл бұрын
The FPV Piolt in me heard you say last run I was like NOOOO never say that its always when you crash lol. Good stuff Raz and if I were you I think 1mill in the diffs for sure and if possible lock the center.
@alankowalski87812 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge the rear diff is already locked but you need to hit up Vitavon for their gear set for the car, the rear links, basicly the Vitavon kit. Plus HR and GPM make other parts like aluminum mounts to mount the links and such too. And if nothing else BEFORE you run, get the rear body brace. There are several on eBay, but Schorched makes one. Also, HR has a hardened steel drive shaft

1-2 million weight oil in the diffs. Perhaps also for on road testing use 1/8 buggy foam tires to prevent it from "wandering" as you try to keep it in a straight line.
@SebastianLong2 жыл бұрын
The diff fluid is fine with a set of street tires. Those stock tires are very soft. If you intend on running the offroad tires. 500k front, 2 mill center, and 1 mill in the rear.
@diycaravanning65072 жыл бұрын
You could try to stop the tires blowing up by strapping them. use some strong fishing braid that has zero stretch. More tread on the ground should make it more stable.
@tmseth2 жыл бұрын
the rear diff is not a problem in my opinion, but you really need belted tires in order to keep it controllable and you certainly need to have a very big anti-roll bar to keep the torque twist away...
@how27492 жыл бұрын
Must admit they were pretty scary runs, great job controlling them, start with 1 million diff fluid, get another diff and lock it so it can be tested on the same day, great work my friend, keep it up, 👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
@robsrcinsanity12202 жыл бұрын
I would find some better tires(belted) and lock at least the rear and center diff to start with. You may have to lock the front as well but that will limit your steering which may be a good thing in this case.
@rcchallenge86262 жыл бұрын
I would start with some Method RC belted tyres as for locking the rear diff that will only make it more unstable you’ll be drifting all over the place 😎 Torque twist is just a part of straight axle life that’s why hittting 100mph with this really will be a challenge 🤷♂️ not to mention how much the body on these type of rigs parachute 😬 I would concentrate on getting the Road record before going down this rabbit hole 😂 can’t wait to see more of both, good luck 🤞😁
@mitsuman55552 жыл бұрын
I think the weight of the body and the spare tires especially would have helped a lot with stability. I love that you're trying this, keep going!

@modzilla742 жыл бұрын
Are u running a stability gyro?
@michaelangelo35212 жыл бұрын
You also need to stiffen the shocks, do the steel springs and go high on the shock fluid. Also if you had the body on the car it would have stiffened the cage up and possibly saved the car.
@melikeeatnpeople2 жыл бұрын
There is an easy way to take apart the SBR, 10 screws a d the whole cage comes off with the body. 4 on the chassis, 2 at the top of the rear bulkhead, 2 up front behind the bumper, and 2 at the rear brace that supports the whole floating rear of the body. It is easiest to drill 2 holes in the body to get to these.
@ahmetcemcosgun20622 жыл бұрын
I think you should shorter and stiffer suspensions for more stability. And you can use ropes for extending wheels.
@RenBobbins2 жыл бұрын
I would stiffen the shocks up, to start. A lot. That will help eliminate a lot of that body roll, which is contributing to, if not causing it to "diff out" like that. If it has 40wt in it, bump it up to 80wt. As far as rear diff weight,I would at leastb match the front. You've already got super thick fluid in the front and center, right?
@onlineaccount2 жыл бұрын
Definitely diffing out, up the weight of diff oil or lock it with some ear plugs or putty. I'd also up the damper oil to help with weight transfer under power
@G7GTI2 жыл бұрын
Hi Raz. I fitted top-tuning 24mm wheel hex's and 5th scale wheel and tyre combo (80mm wide) as the stock wheel setup is not great even on 6S the balooning and grip is terrible, this has tamed the beast quite a lot even on grass. I would lock the rear and centre diff and leave the front to start with. I cant wait to see the next run, great project 😎👍

@TwitchFast2 жыл бұрын
Most important factor for me is belted tyres, it will help reduce the amount it walks around the road and with any luck it will stop you articulating so much and causing one wheel to spool up.

Raz, not sure if it was the angle of the camera. But it looked like your back right side tire was cambered in a little bit. Like to see this rc vehicle reach the 100 mph , that's would be epic.
@GTRacingblog882 жыл бұрын
I did this when I was a kid. Went to the hobby shop and told the guys I wanted to go 100mph with am ecx amp MT. I got to around 80mph. My tires were always the limiting factor and that what I think is holding you back. Those tires will balloon and you'll lose control. Either need to get different tires that wont balloon like that are maybe some fishing line around them? Imo those tires gotta go to go faster. Its not about diff fluid. You got the tire speed for 100mph plus but the tires are ballooning before you get there.

What others have said. Thick oil or earplugs. Belted tires will help a ton. Better control, no chance of a catastrophic tire failure and you won't lose power to tire deformation.

I'd start by thickening that shock fluid and maybe some hefty shock limiters . That shock travel is allowing it to float all over and in turn allowing the flex so that tire lifted right off the road and it was loss of traction from there. I would thicken the fluid too. Idk what is stock in that but at least throw some 50k in it. I wouldn't lock it if your gonna keep driving it on road tho. Because you not going to 100% eliminate that flex of the car so you want the diffs to be diffs lol. Awesome idea. I can't wait to see what's next
@rcjunkie2602 жыл бұрын
Definitely lock the rear diff. I have the losi ¹/¹⁰ Baja Rey Raptor. In between the solid rear axle and the tires turning into pizza cutter. Speed runs on pavement is nearly impossible! Maybe better luck at the runway, more room to to wonder all over🤭 Quick question what would be the better TP motor for my limitless and a hobbywing max8 for bashing and a speed run here or their.

I recommend soft locking the diffs with silicone ear plugs like Kevin Talbot uses for his bashers instead of throwing heavier grease or oil that thins out with temp increase . I also recommend heavier shock oil, lowering the rig, belted tires ( you can also take some light weight plastic meshing with some shoe glue and make your own belted tires) and run the cage without the body so you don't take flight.

1ST Issue first Raz, belted tyres, you're getting way too much ballooning under load, it ruins any chance of a repeatable run and always leads to cars floating away into oblivion, Rip HobbyWing XeRun Revo combo (That thing never let any tyres last more than 30 seconds and it was before belted ones were really available)
