Today's video comes from a Blue Belt who has recently had a weird situation at him BJJ gym.
Recently a brand new White Belt started training. And it just so happens that this white belt has history with Jason. . . not good history either! Apparently, the guy bullied Jason around and ended up stealing money from him.
Now, Jason said he tried to leave those feelings outside of the gym since Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is something he does to get away from the craziness of the outside world. Well, the white belt started talking negatively about Jason. Not in the fun we're-friends-trash-talking, but in a bullying way.
So he sends in a message to see if I could give him a useful perspective that could help with the situation.
Hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching!

If the cards are in his favour, he can do that, if not it could get him furthur entrenched in the situation. If the other guy is good at playing the room or could give an explanation which it would seem that he is over reacting, then it will probably backfire if he call him out.

Had a drop in at our school... unsure of belt since it was no-gi day... hbullied some of the teens with wristlocks & heel-hooks. Professor encouraged one of our "senior" blue belts to cool him off and, boy, did he ever. It was so gratifying to watch.

Yes, I mostly agree with Chewy here, if he acts like a 'bully' type character, put it to him on the mat; and more so, when he does this 'verbal' bullying you should call him out in front of everyone. If you're in a good gym with wholesome comradery and you've been training there for a while; trust me please, some (enforcer) one will put it to this guy. Keep training, Oss!

that is what i think too, the bully is probably just stronger and might have grappling experience, so the blue belt cant do anything with him on the mat... also he seems to make friends easily in that new gym, which says something... all put together, the blue belt guy prob feels devalued and put down by an old enemy.. crap situation, talking to the coach is the only solution it seems, but it won't restore the hierarchy if the bully just keeps smashing the blue belt

Before I trained to fight I had a roommate who had a dark past. Child abuse dark past so I reached out to try and be a positive influence. Eventually he got involved in some criminal activities like stealing from others front doors, stealing another roommates electronics, getting involved with substance dealers of multiple sorts, threatening anyone who challenged him with violence towards them and their loved ones. Some real breaking bad stuff, sooner or later the police got involved and I was a witness in his antics that the cops needed. I took the chance to get out of a domestic situation because I chose to help him out and regretted it. The thing is people like him and the ones described in this situation do not change. You cannot reason with unreasonable people, especially those who try and instigate like this guys nemesis is doing. If the violent guy from my past came to my gym I would let the professor know in private so he can watch the situation in real time. But in the mean time I would not let anything he says get to his head but when you get the right time ask him in passive ways if he still "screws people over". they wanna play the radio silence game and even though we hear all the time "be the bigger man" I disagree with that load of bs. You need to stand up to him while the iron is cold cause if he is able to frame a situation that makes you look bad he will do it. The scorpion and the frog has become my favorite story for a reason.

Bullies usually have character flaws. Sometimes they can work on themselves and become better people, sometimes they do not change. There should be an effort to make sure personal problems do not escalate in the dojo because they can blow up outside the dojo. IMO if someone cannot behave like a mature adult/student they should be asked politely to leave the school. Protect your business and your clients.

Sounds like you need to communicate the issues you have with this person directly. Ask for someone who you trust to mediate the conversation. Express how you feel. They may react negatively, but it at least will allow you to say your piece. If you're better than them on the mat, punish them there (without doing any real damage, but enough to hurt their pride). You could do both, things simultaneously, or just one of those options, or even a mix between both of them (maybe more mat dominance and less talking if you feel so inclined). Key point: Fuck 'em til they stop fucking back.

💯 💯 5:32 Chew! I have had this experience, he was an aggressive guy and after hearing and making complaints and after watching him aggressively roll with the ladies, gents and kids, and having my own experience with him, I had absolutely enough of this piece of garbage, and it was in a noon class that I told the coach for that particular class about this guy and was hoping that he could put a little more pressure on him if he uses him to show the move... his americana went a little further and you could tell it made the bully very uncomfortable, i’ll admit that I was very satisfied🤷‍♀️, don’t come into our sanctuary and think that you’re going to try to beat up and bully everybody! 0 tolerance! @@jordanseely1285in the comment you’re replying to the person was talking bad and being aggressive with everyone including the kids according to the comment you’re replying to. I wouldn’t feel safe with someone who doesn’t tone it down anyone, not even for the kids, because they probably don’t know when to cut it out, mistakes can happen and they don’t sound like they’d listen to “I haven’t slept well today, so be a bit careful with me” or anything similar and that’s just a recipe for a mistake to happen and have either one of us get injured People rolling (a bit to) aggressively is one thing, people who don’t know how to tone it down at all/don’t tone it done for anyone makes them seem like either they aren’t in full control (even if they’re just to excited and not a bad person, still not a good partner because you can’t safely do things if there’s a risk of getting in a bad spot), or they just don’t respect how they make others feel (but those have way more issues)

Jason should talk to his coach and the person who runs the gym. This bad history of him stealing from Jason and animosity could lead to a confrontation off the mat which would be bad for the gym and business. The bully just saying shit is locker room talk and it will happen everywhere but him having financially double crossing Jason is a professional problem. The coach and gym owner have the authority to have the bully dismissed from the gym and Jason should try to be in the room if it happens that way, if the bully wants to talk it out there is literally a room with a professional fighter who can witness and break you guys up if things get heated.

Dude has to call the dude out on his shit every single time he says something. He has to do it right in front of the people that yes saying it to. He has to roll with dude and squash him. And while he is squashing him, he has to repeat whatever wiseass words the dude said, over and over the whole time. After squashing him, just look at him and chuckle. Then immediately offer to go again. The dude is going to quit that gym. Then you have to train twice as hard, because he's going to go somewhere else with the intention of getting even. When he shows up again, you have to crush him again. Then you have to find his closest female relative, sister, cousin, mom, ex gf whatever, and start dating her. Then let her know how you squash him at the gym but youre going easy not to hurt the little guy. Then get a job where he works, befriend all of his friends and slowly put a wedge in between them, all the while letting everyone know you crush him regularly. Then find out who his landlord is, and work out a deal to buy the building where he lives. Dont say anything until his lease is up for renewal, then raise his rent. Find out who his mechanic is, and give them a few bucks to sabotage major things in his car next time he comes in, and talk them into overcharging him. Then pay someone to follow him into stores, and stealthfully slip merchandise into his jacket pocket and alert store personnel. Then get a part time job at his favorite restaurant. Pay the waitresses to apert you when he comes in, then stir his soup with your weenis and fart on his plate. I wouldnt go too far, just that kind of stuff.

There's a lot of emotional charge for the blue belt, and I can understand why. With that said, the white belt is an idiot: 1) Because he's gonna get merc'ed on the mat especially with the blue belts experience & 2) he's on the blue belt's home turf, so if he oversteps boundaries (which he is) then the whole gym will straighten him out. It sounds like the blue belt is in a much safer situation than he expected. This is a great learning opportunity for him to develop his capacity for standing up for himself!

I can’t imagine the scenario for somebody comes in to the gym that I train at, been training at for years sweat, bled with, laughed with, and made friends with the other men there, having somebody come in there and saying anything about me and my fellow trading partners humoring them for at least one second. The bully sounds completely insecure and a coward I think chewy advice is sound, just let it go and maybe tell some of your buddies that you train with there Rad do you know straighten them out a little bit, and then like chewy said, put them on the roll with them, and you know grind them out. Good times.
