This is the place for serious reptile lovers! We have tons of expert info on pet lizards, habitat, snakes, turtles, sulcata tortoises, terrapin, crocodiles, alligators and all sorts of scaly & misunderstood creatures in Florida. We also love to learn from other animal experts who are happy to share knowledge about pets. That’s what Kamp Kenan is all about. We love reptiles & science and we know you do too. This is why we do what we do. Animal conservation in the modern world matters, we're out there living it and doing it every day. This is real life, these stories are real, and our sole purpose is education in action for you so that you can learn something new every day and one day perhaps get involved yourself. It's that simple.
Let's create a new generation of educated reptile keepers & animal enthusiasts by spreading the love!

there is some evidence that reptiles can imprint on humans and establish emotional and social bonds. Using behavior modification is part of it but the relationship with the animal is the most important aspect. People keep saying green Iguanas are horrible and yet I have tamed down adult feral ones.This guy is great and thanks for featuring him😁

Kenan have you ever thought of trying a pair of polarising (*enchroma)glasses that work with your colour blindness so you can see all the vibrant colours of your scale babies. Absolutely love Kevin’s way of thinking, knowledge is power and it can benefit to our 🐢🐍🦎 lives for the better. Can’t wait for the next episodes 🤗🤗

Hate to break it to you but that’s not a thing... I don’t really know where that whole idea started but it is absolutely impossible to restore “color vision” to someone in this matter. Keep in mind though he is just missing a potion of the “normal” spectrum. Meaning certain colors will be indistinguishable for him but he still perceives color. (I’m an eye doctor)
@bhutch216
@bhutch216 3 жыл бұрын
Willis Wilson what? Enchroma has been making glasses that correct color blindness for years. Yes it’s not a permanent solution but can let those people experience full color while they wear them.
@beerthug
@beerthug Жыл бұрын
I tried Enchroma glasses this Xmas and even though having a 'severe' colour blindness, they did what I've always told people over the years when they ask me what its' like. "I see colours, just not the same as you do." If you want to buy two pairs of sunglasses, one for indoors and one for out, then go right ahead and have three 'modes' of colour vision. Not saying they don't work for folks, just passing on my personal experience.😉

Oh my, that was amazing. I have been calling Kevin the Reptile whisperer since I starting diving back into my passion that I have had since I was a young child. I have know from childhood that all animals have cognitive thinking . My opinion that the scientist that tried to write books back in the 70's and stated that animals did not have cognitive thinking did not really like animals and did not live with animals

Been so stoked for this video! Kevin is such a gem, I would love to pick his brain. That's precisely how I became so involved with animals- observing their intelligence and the way they communicate- I was absolutely enamored. Humans can be cruel, and most lack the desire to comprehend. I was hesitant to begin my channel for that very reason. Thanks for this special video, Kenan 🥰 Great to see Tom again, you've been missed!

I got a boiga and she is a sweetheart but still a little shy. After a month shes finally eating off the tongs and today she was out on her branches this morning finally. The Mode thing is 100% true. When my Tegu is outside, hes in "outside mode" He is exploring, alert, active. He will not take food if offered. He will tolerate being held for a short time but wants to get down and explore and dig. As soon as I take him inside he swaps to "inside mode" he will accept food eagerly and enjoys being held.

He nailed it with that anamorphic (right word? Lol) point. We constantly put on human thoughts, emotions and needs upon our reptiles instead of thinking like a reptile. A Reptiles whole life is survival. That’s hiding , eating, searching for water and to procreate. Now imagine you’re given a home that’s safe, warm, food brought to you, cleaned, and maybe even a mate.. I don’t think they’d wanna leave and id argue a lot of people wouldn’t either

The ego part is spot on in the reptile hobby or any hobby for that matter. For those that think they know what is right just beat down others and disregard experience.
@rdizzy1
@rdizzy1 3 жыл бұрын
At the same time, anecdotal evidence (personal experience) isn't factual, it is an opinion (the opinion can be largely formed based on facts, but that doesn't make the opinion factual in totality). Now you can respect the opinion, and add to your body of knowledge, but don't just take individuals opinions based solely on personal experience as fact without questioning and/or skepticism. Just take a look at how many individuals in pharmaceutical studies "feel better" when they are actually receiving the placebo, and not the actual drug, the number is NEVER zero.
@ThePythonPit
@ThePythonPit 3 жыл бұрын
@@rdizzy1 True, I am for taking personal experiences and opinions then through rigorously testing prove these theories outside a personal environment. There are too many "best practices" used by enthusiasts, hobbists, and breeders that may have merit with them and within their community, but not for the end all be all facts. Husbandry alone causes unstructured arguments, trolling, and bashing. What is sad is that there are some KZfaq personalities, breeders, and other "experts" that I seen get nasty or downright rude to others. It is really sad when these are breeders. Hate to see how they communicate to customers that want to enter this hobby.
@rdizzy1
@rdizzy1 3 жыл бұрын
I would like to see the practice of actual proven genetic sequencing of various morphs and what not, would be interesting to compare between, so you can find out the genetic changes happening behind the scenes that do not produce external visible changes. Some morphs may actually be more harmful than people can realize, for example.
@ThePythonPit
@ThePythonPit 3 жыл бұрын
@@rdizzy1 I agree. With all the genetic services and achievements; you figure we can do this with reptiles. Perhaps it will take out of the fun some people have of proven certain morphs and genes. To each his/her own. Maybe a Herp Grad student could create something like this for their dissertation.
@rdizzy1
@rdizzy1 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThePythonPit Would be far better for big breeders to know immediately if new morphs are going to be passed on or not and exactly what else the morph is effecting aside from looks. (Such as the possibility of making a snake slightly less intelligent or something, or slightly worse eyesight, or something similar that is next to impossible to see unless you gave every animal MRI or FMRI on the brain.) A good paper would be attempting to figure out the physical biological cause of the "wobble" seen in spider ball pythons or something as well. (IE- what does this gene cause in the brain to cause the neurological symptoms, and when you find out, could it be treated)

Great work as always Gentlemen, I have followed Kevian for years ,in my opinion he's The best out there,he has learnt from the old school legends and become a modern legand himself, he's one of a few people who can think outside the box and see things from the animals perspective. He also has vision like no one else , the amount of worlds first he has created and done first is unbelievable, when I watch him and he shares his wealth of information it's a houner,I look forward to more colabs.

Kevin is a hero of the reptile world. What he is doing, to take away the negative stigma people associate with these animals, is so important. He’s pioneered an amazing way to interact with them and I hope more reptile people can drop their egos and learn from him. The reptiles that are living in captivity will be the ones who benefit from that. 🐍🐊❤️🦎🐢

Finally getting around to watching the NERD/Kamp Kenan collab videos, I have been saving them up to watch because I haven't been well enough. I've been so excited for them all! I am so hoping that you will be meeting Lillith in one of these videos, she is incredible! I love your expression when you turn around and Rob is standing there with a Dwarf Caiman 😂
