They are already doing it. Most of unreal 3d terrain renders are done that way.

The LiDAR sensor is actually the one that is on the iPhone, it’s the iPhone that is doing the scan, so what is the black thing with the antenna? Is it for more accurate gps positioning?

Yes, the iPhone GPS has an accuracy of around 5 meters. This RTK antena has centimeter accuracy, it's survey grade for professionals.

It’s already normal on “Pro” iPhones and iPads, it’s the black circle next to the cameras, it started with the iPhone 12 Pro. In the video the thing actually doing the scanning is the iPhone’s LiDAR sensor.
