Hi from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 from a colder (Near Winter.) Our Bees had a mild Day yesterday (11C) and they all came out on mass to do Food Shopping and Bathroom Breaks. 🤭 A tiny amount of Pollen seen on an odd Bee. Interesting what might be producing that. . . Maybe an odd Dandelion on / in a more sheltered area (?) Tip : Here when adding more Boxes (we are famous for Heather Honey here) we take into account the 'Chimney Effect 'Bees' like to do in Hives. Like a "Tree Cavity". Nature knows best. 🙃 Keep the Brood more in the Centre of each Box : eg Move up say x4 Frames of Brood into that centre spot in that 'New' empty Top Box. Add in new empty Foundation Frames into those outer Slots in that lower Brood and upper Box, where bees will fill once activity increases ! I like personally, to do all Deep Boxes, to Frames. Re Langstroth, UK Nationals our Hive designs of choice. Heavy I know, but hey, the useful 'swap-about' factor (add this here or there): easy if all Boxes or Equipment takes same type of Frame, although a National is a tad shorter in length than the USA Langstroth. . . 😉 For Brood Deep Frames 'Using them temporarily in Supers : to draw "Up" the Bees is a Fab Tip or Trick ! How you ask ? By adding Medium Honey Frames into the Supers,in the outer slots, using x2 Supers Boxes (Stacked on each other ) Gives those Deeper "Brood" Frames 'room' re depth, in middle of said Box(es) and shallower Frames on outer. . .you might get a tiny bit of under/brace Drawn down Comb under those shorter (gap) areas : but it can be scrapped off easily. As those Bees come "up" to Nurse that Brood. Known Fact : Brood is a magnet for Bees. Add that. . . and Bees find it instantly ! Once Brood hatches out, up there, they back fill those empty Cells with Honey. Take those deeper 'ex Brood' Frames out. Add to eg a Starter Nuc, or another Brood Hive that needs Resources to boost it. Maybe another Hive has less Bee population, thus less stores etc. Adding in will boost them too. . . Then add more Super Frames into your added Honey Box, to those spare spaces, (or in that two over Box set up.) Doubling your Honey build in no time. Same 'theory' applies to Honey Supers too. . . Chimney those Centre locations with partially filled Frames. Outer : add more Foundation Frames. Build up works way faster. A win, win for Bees and Beekeeper alike. Principle : All useful stuff... Guaranteed to get any added Box, filled with 'Bee Activity', in no time. AND get your Colony to have : 1) Brood Laying Space. 2) Get the next Box filled Quicker. 3) Use this setup to help other Colonies or Bee needs re Nuc/Hive 'Splits.' Mini mating Nucs Prep (nesting Mini Frames within Super or Brood Frames.) 4) Helps the Apiary too. Hope this helps. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 New Subscriber here. . . Will miss Aussie KZfaqr Bush Bee Man in S.A. (He's ceasing doing Videos I heard recently? Why ???) So need to get my Oz Beek fix via another Down Under Beek ! Will learn of your locality soon, I guess, after watching this, your 1st KZfaq footage seen by myself. Off to watch a few more. 👍

Hey. Bush Bee Man posted a 'Shortie' say x10 days back. Will miss his Loxton?Outback Humour. 🤗 Visited Oz all over in the 1980s Pommie Visitor and again in 1990s (Trainee Nurse doing Flying Dr's, Bush Medical Care etc.) Starter Bees as a Teen :Paid for [Gap Year] Ticket to Oz, Grandparents paid the Return bit. Some life Decades later. Took early retirement. . . Now with Bees once more, in the best Area for Heather. Most folk drive their Bees in on Trucks etc, Mine just fly out of my Garden and turn Right by x2 Miles. Sweet. Saying G'day to Voctoria : came through your region on the Greyhound Bus heading East, to go North to Queensland, then on into the Outback. Far out... A long time ago. Seems like yesterday. . . 😄

Is it to be expected that the bees would expand brood over two standard boxes while there is practically no capped honey (i.e. no stores) at the top? Mine in the Geelong area have built up an Ideal full of honey on top of one (Carniolan) or two (Italian) standard boxes with brood.

Hey Jurg. I think the pollen sub I’ve been feeding has pushed them to brood up. Whilst bringing in enough nectar to support the hive there is too much brood to leave any for stores. Good to hear your bees are doing well.

Loving this series of videos! Are you finding that the bees tend to move upwards with their brood nest as they eat through honey from above? This leaves the bottom box relatively empty. I am in the NE, 100km from you are. We have the opposite problem- honey bound due to an unprecedented yellow box mass flowering event.

Thank you. It means a lot. I think they basically stay in the bottom box as the nectar comes in. Also there is substantial brood so I don’t think that would leave that behind. Unless it was winter and there was no brood. Are you in Meredith? I’ve heard a big yellow box flow is happening there.

@@aussiebeekeeping Kinglake Area. I think the nectar flow is strong around Castlemaine/Kyneton area where I have an outpost apiary. I probably need to consistently harvest to give the queen space to lay. Summer solstice is on the way, which means peak egg laying.

@mellarius188 oh nice. Love Kinglake. We stay up at Panton Hill and visit occasionally. That flow must be extending right down to us. Amazing. Goodluck.
