how hard is it to get into beekeeping?
@aussiebeekeeping5 күн бұрын
It’s not terribly hard to get into. You can buy a box and get bees from a local beekeeper. But there is a fair bit of ongoing education. You need to undergo in order to keep your bees, happy and healthy.

Really love the way you filmed that intro. Would like to see more of that. It was so beautifully done! Both the music portion and the slow video of their box and hive entrance.
@aussiebeekeeping8 күн бұрын
Thank you. It means a lot. I enjoy making those intro. I just have to find a balance of “something for everyone” in my videos otherwise they would be all music and bees.

That is a hornet or a wasp. And it is a predator of honey bees which is why they come in other nests.

You must live in a hot zone as lid doesn't make a seal by the looks as its sitting on the top bars of the frames letting all the warm air out of the hive

What that queen was doing was wild! I have never seen that before. Perhaps she didn't like the paint job and was hiding her head in shame! Making me wait until the end for the whayat hive - well played! Those robbers were following you around like you were driving the ice cream truck.

I’m curious as to why you don’t use foundation. Wouldn’t your bees be more productive with foundation?
@aussiebeekeeping21 күн бұрын
It all stems from 2 bad years and a lack of wax to make foundation.
@sabbys775021 күн бұрын
What is foundation? I was thinking that it was a base for the box? Sorry I don't really know much about bees. 🤓🤓
@sabbys775021 күн бұрын
Lol I figured it out... 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ 🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣
@rtxhoneybees20 күн бұрын
Foundation is for the beekeeper, not the bees. It doesn't give them a head start and may do the opposite. It encourages them to put worker brood in the brood box instead of drone brood. That is about it.

Didn’t see any eggs , larvae or capped brood in the 3rd box , do you think she could be a virgin Queen ? Here in Florida even in our brief cooler weather it’s usually unlikely that queens get mated that late in the season. Your thoughts … Really enjoy your videos , well done !

Maybe you could take a frame from a more well off Hive and transplant it to one that isn’t doing well just to get the hives that might not make it just over the line. Although this might not work unless you can confirm that both the troubled hives have queens and you don’t want to put a good hive into the same position as the others by taking too much so it can be a bit of a risk or if you think one hive isn’t likely to survive you could use the resources from that one to save the other in a triage type of situation where it’s not as tragic given your at least able to save a hive rather than loosing both.

@aussiebeekeepingАй бұрын
This late in the season the new queen probably wouldn’t mate. It’s a better bet to try and get the original queen to push through the winter if she is there.
