Definitely puts MASSIVE pressure on Gauthier to walk the walk in Anaheim. Most hockey players would bleed themselves dry to have a shot at touching the NHL ice, so he just set himself up to be absolutely despised if he can't make the transition and look good doing it... And even then I hope he's ready for a rough ride.

This is my thought exactly. I haven't done a deep dive but I'm sure there's no shortage of 5OA draft picks with short NHL careers. If he does well, ANA will love him but if he doesn't do well he's not going to look attractive to any org who would otherwise be open to "taking a risk" on a player.

Danny Briere scored close to 700 points as a player in the regular season and over 100 points in the playoffs. He was a Flyer for six years and he definitely knows how to handle the Philadelphia media. He’s very professional and honest in his press conferences. Nothing weird about it. Cutter was all in with Flyers until Kevin Hayes was traded. After that Cutter would not answer any phone calls from Danny Briere. Flyers were lucky in that other NHL teams kept it quiet that Cutter would not play for Flyers and were able to find a Team (Ducks) who gave up a potential top pair right handed defenseman. Ducks were so unaware of situation that they added a 2nd round pick in 2025. Personally, I think its a weak move by Cutter to not even go to camp and try things out for atleast year before making determination not to play for team. This puts alot of pressure on Cutter in Anaheim and absolutely puts a bulls eye on him twice a year they play Philly and this doesn't even get into the onslaught of social media salt he will receive over the years from a very devout Flyers fan base.

What's so strange about Briere saying they want to protect him so they kept it quiet? It helps nobody in the situation to let word get out. A 19 year old kid doesn't need the media slagging him as a prima donna 2 years before he ever sets foot in an NHL rink and Briere certainly didn't want to depreciate the asset by broadcasting he wants out. It makes total sense.

@@yoholmes273 Most teams are in major cities that are absolute "armpits" of whatever area they're in. So, if you can manage to get a couple more brain cells to fire, think about the big picture. If more spoiled brats get drafted and snub the team that drafted them, the organizations will undoubtedly fight back in some way. When this happens, it'll be a blanket policy affecting all draft picks, punishing the 99% of draftees who are ecstatic to play in the NHL and the other 1% of spoiled brats who think they're Billy Big Bollocks because they had a good junior career.

good right handed defenseman are unicorns in NHL. Flyers have really good defensive coach who turned several players around. What Flyers need most from Drysdale is on PP. Your correct, health will be huge factor. Cutter on other hand will endure alot as flyers fans will harass him thru this career and I think many NHL players will take umbrage to how Cutter handled this by not even taking phones calls. NHL is small family compared to other sports and I don't think they want to see it go the way of NBA where players just deciding who they will play for.

When asked about the trade Tortorella said, “I don’t know Cutter from a hole in the wall.” Team says Gauthier was happy to be going to Flyers when drafted but after a few months began to change his mind, told the Flyers he didn’t want to sign with them and eventually cut them off from communication. When your coach is constantly overwhelmed by his own narcissism and doesn’t go out of his way to even attempt to form a relationship with a #5 pick who is literally a few hours drive away, coupled with Tortorella’s reputation as a nasty jacktard, who would want to begin their career playing for that guy? Plus, Cutter listened to months of Tortorella’s egomaniacle badmouthing of premier prospects coming out of junior, like Trevor Zegras. I completely understand Flyer fans being upset with Gauthier, but it doesn’t matter. The kid made a ballsy man-size decision and it’s a big plus for the Ducks. No one who watches Anaheim hockey consistently could possibly think Drysdale was worth his high pick.

@Electricalphil clarke?? You mean lindros and Clarke 25 years ago?? Lol that was injury related. I was referring to salaries. Did you read? Anaheim is a relatively poor team who consistently nickel and dime their players. Always have been and will continue. Philly always, now, past, and future are more than fair regarding contracts. In fact Philly overpays their players and has for years. Dreyfus got stiffed on his last contract with Anaheim, as is their way. Gauthier has that to look forward to. Philly exiled him. Oh... and Lindros was extremely well paid, top 3 during his tenure in Philly. Not bad for a guy Clarke detested, at least he wasn't cheap.

So many rumors floating around that Kevin Hayes may have talked Cutter out of signing with the Flyers. Don't know if it's true because the source is a sloppy sports writer for the Flyers, but Cutter and Kevin did spend time together in the offseason. Kevin Hayes had a beef with Philadelphia's staff, and Hayes never hid that. Cutter called Hayes a mentor. Honestly Hayes was mediocre in Philadelphia and Torts wanted him to step up his game, Hayes took offense to the obvious. Clearly Torts isn't horrible because they Flyers are played decent hockey for a rebuild team.
