When I was 12 I found an old flathead Briggs engine at the dump, slapped it on a deck I had and although I do what you do for a hobby it's still there and will cut grass every time. I'm 30 now so yea not a bad engine 👍

So, not a Husqvarna issue at all, but a B&S plastic carb issue. What a surprise. Re: the short fuel hose. I replaced mine with one long enough to have a loop in it.

This was a fortunate fix. I just picked up a free mower that was left near the dumpster at work. It's completely clean. Looks almost new. It has exactly the same problems. Won't start and too much oil. I was unfamiliar with this type of carb so now I'm almost positive that I can do the cleaning right. Thanks!

Excellent diagnosis and repair. Those plastic carbs I still am not a fan. Less complicated but I doubt they hold up in the long run. If it is new than it is made worse than before. Great job. I have a front wheel drive mower and that is all I need. Thanks for the videos.

Thank you for the video on this type of mower and those plastic carbs! I have a Husqvarna 775EX mower, and just got done successfully cleaning the metal carb on it, finally getting the hang of fixing gas power equipment, thanks to videos like yours. I really relate to your attitude about taking the carb off and not moving anything around more than necessary. With my metal carb there was an O-ring gasket that presses in and had stretched out, and wouldn't go back into its original track; kept popping out. I finally cut and trimmed it to fit neatly, but that's a temporary hack until I can get a replacement O-ring gasket.

Small yard with a hill I'd use a normal push mower for the extra exercise, but several years ago, several serious medical issues & lightning strike curtailed these activities. These days, I mow the back yard using a push mower whilst driving my mobility scooter along side it.

Looks at his 50yo supaswift...Yeap I showed them lol. So the great briggs plastic carb strikes again.

My small 3 horsepower Briggs and Stratton powered Supa Swift lawnmower is good for a hilly yard because it is a smaller mower which has a light weight aluminium deck on it meaning that it's easier to manoeuvre on such a property !

I agree the all-wheel drive I usually have no problems with the front wheel or back wheel self-propelled on hills but don't have many in my area. Still a nice machine.

I contemplated getting a riding mower because of the fairly steep hills on my property but ruled this out as riding mowers can be quite dangerous on hills. I think made the right choice with a 4wd push mower and as a bonus the mower can get into many more tight places. I would suggest for fairly flat lawns front wheel drive. moderate hills rear wheel drive. grades of 25 degrees or steeper 4wd. The extra money spent is worth it.

I don’t remove the choke arm. After disconnecting the fuel hose, I rotate the carb bottom upward and disconnect the choke linkage. Then rotate the carb to the right to disconnect the governor linkage. To disconnect the fuel hose (first step), I first unseat the carb from the engine, then hold the hose with a pair of needle nose pliers and work the carb out of the hose. I leave the hose attached to the tank. If the hose becomes damaged or needs replacing, it’s much easier to do with the carb out of your way. I hope you find this helpful.

I hate those auto choking carbs (or really any auto choking carbs). I had one on my 90s snapper with the quantum, and it was constantly jamming in the choked position and making the mower run like crap, or jamming open and not wanting to start. I think the thing that opens the choke when the engine heats up was failing or something. I just replaced the carb and air box with a regular one with a primer bulb, and it has been running great sense. The worst ones in my opinion were the old "Choke O matic" ones from the 60s/70s on the old flathead engines.

I feel like those plastic jets get gummed up easier than other carb jets for some reason. Since you can buy just the plastic jets for $1-2 each aftermarket, I've taken to just replacing rather than cleaning them if they really bad or if I'm in a hurry to get a mower running. I also scrapped a higher percentage of those newer engines compared to any other Briggs type or brand.

When I put all of my equipment away for winter I pump the Gas out and put fresh gas in it with some stable and run it for a few minutes and spray some foging oil in the cylinder and slowly pul it over so it coats everything and then I put it away. When I take it out in the spring if fires right up

In my area on craigslist free stuff I see almost brand new electric lawnmowers that don’t charge or have other electrical issues. You should try to fix one of those. Personally I like gas mowers

I fixed one of these today and didn’t know you could take the choke arm off like that but I just twisted it carefully and it came off. Quick question is it normal for these engines to be so quiet? I thought it wasn’t getting up to full speed but it cut grass and seemed normal

When I pull is backwards it leaves a trail or looks different from when I push it . Why is that . I still cuts but the clippings I can still see them. Howle I said that so you understand. ???????

I got one of these for 20 bucks, cause the guy thought the engine was seized, it was but it was a branch stuck under the deck with the blade stuck into the wood, freed up the branch and it started right up, cleaned it up, did all the usual maintenance, and sold it 2 weeks later for 225.

So what ended up being the problem? The hole you brought back to original size or just cleaning everything?

Naturally, I am interested in flipping mowers and trimmers for some money and as a hobby ( i am 13 so I don't need a ton of money back from it ) and I am wondering: do you have any tips for me? Also, what equipment/consumables would you recommend I buy to get started? One last thing: what do you think about electric mowers? Do you think that the convenience and simplicity outweigh the cost and proprietary nature of these machines or do you think that gasoline will continue to be the paradigm for the foreseeable future?

Recently I bought a toro self propelled lush mower. It has a briggs & stratton engine. the problem I have is when I mow my lawn oil leaks out through the air filter. I took the mower back to where i bought it, That cocky told me to keep the carb/ aircleaner up hill. That don't work. the oil is at correct level. Is it possible to re-route the crankcase breather to where it won't ruin air filters every time I mow? Any suggestions would be greatly appregiated

I can't believe it says on top of the engine never change the oil, just check and add oil. Just another reason I do not like Briggs. Haha. Great job with the video!

Meh, I had a Husqvarna AWD mower and it was ok but frankly RWD is good enough. My big problem with the Husqvarna drive system is the exposed idler pulleys that get contaminated with grass and dirt under the mower and seize up. They really should have put some kind of cover over them but they’re just exposed to everything going on under the deck. I have a RWD HU700H mower on my bench right now with a seized idler pulley, in fact the part just came in today. Give me Toro’s Personal Pace system any day; well designed, very trouble free and easy to service when necessary.

Hey man iv got a project coming up, I have dealt with weibang commercial lawnmowers. Iv just bought a used one off ebay for £150, the machine it self is worth £1300 (yes I know I'm nuts) I'm hoping it's something i can work on during the winter and have running once spring comes around, any advice. It's a weibang virtue 53 SSD. I currently run a weibang virtue 46 svp that's just had a engine swap due to a bent crank.

I remove the fuel tank first with it still connected. don't have to empty any gas or clamp it. As far as the carb goes you can remove it without snapping that plastic piece off by removing the choke linkage first. I have yet to replace one of these carbs and I've cleaning a gazillion of them. I also use slip joint pliers (opened up) to remove the cartridge as opposed to using a flathead screwdrivers. You'll risk tearing the gasket or cracking the carb.

This is why I hate new mowers because of the cheep plastics unless it’s a Honda. I just love older mowers better. Like my former neighbor his Honda mower is 16 years old he brought it brand new in summer of 2005. And it’s still running and it always fires right up on one full. And I loved my Honda mower HRX 217 with the GCV190. If I was still living in IL I would still have her. But I ended up selling it to a buddy of mine along with my STIHL equipments before my big move from IL to SC 3 years ago. Unfortunately my Honda mower is no longer alive because when he was using it last year it cranked the engine block. But I told him If the body and the rest of the mower is a good shape. I told him that he should just get a other GCV190 engine for it.

You can just remove the bulb and the emulation tube without removing the carburettor. True about short hose and breaking plastic parts could be easy to do.

I just fix a front tire on my neighbors riding mower. It was a 1/2 quart over full. I ask her if she put oil in it she said yes she couldn't see the oil on the yellow dip stick. She is Olde and may not see good . I drained it back down to the full mark. For her

Depending on the fuel refinery, yellow petrol is at a low grade, may run but won’t last long. Please try to stay away from any ethanol fuels if possible for you in the USA may be challenging in some areas.

I am not a fan of the Husqvarna AWD mower because of the maze of belt and pulleys under it. They do have good traction when they are working though .

I’d stick with the 190cc quantum that was bulletproof and was the best engine ever made by Briggs.

Those carburetors clog all the time. At least it is an easy clean up. I work on a lot of the AWD mowers. Not a big fan.

God damn husquvarna and their god damn plastic carburetors. We have husqvarna backpack blowers at work, and they work great. Except they use plastic carbs that need to be replaced every year.

My friend has the same mower that wouldn’t start because the auto choke wouldn’t close when she finished. I would NOT purchase an AWD mower because the risk of something going wrong would not be worth the reward(unless I was mowing in a foot of snow). Overkill. Thanks HG

Those Briggs and Stratton engines are that bad that certain manufacturers in the UK and Europe are dropping Briggs and Stratton from being used on their mowers. Stihl has replaced the majority of the engines on their petrol mowers from Briggs and Stratton to Kohler or chinese manufacturer Loncin. Although like the car industry most manufacturers are looking at going full electric.

The typical user of a mower like this would leave fuel in the tank over winter without being aware of the potential problems this might cause. Had the manufacturer gone to the trouble/expense of fitting a fuel shut off valve in the fuel line then some of the potential problems with this machine might be avoided.

It's common for people to overfill the oil. Some engine designs they have it so u can't overfill it. Most don't anymore. Dumb. A couple engines I have u fill it to brim of the fill hole. Then it's full. Good design. Can't get anymore in or it runs over. When putting your mower away for the year. Let it run out of gas. More mowers will be going electric. But there not cheap. And expensive to replace the battery. Gas mower can last 30 years with proper maintenance. At least for a town lawn. They should have section how to winterize your mower. Save alot of mowers going into the land fills. The amount of gas u use a year in a push mower is hardly anything. Oil change once every 3 years. For a town lawn. I see no purpose to have AWD push mower. Just to say u have one I guess. Extra cost and extra weight and one more thing to breakdown eventually.

Want to know how you can tell a Chinese engine from an American built one? Just look at the side walls of the engines, if they have vertical lines all over the sides it means it’s Chinese.

When all will go electric, you’re gonna run out of job. So don’t attract this with your tough…
