Josie, I am Indian with a low tolerance spice level and I can really understand your pain😂..I always get made fun of for it but my stomach just can't handle it.. individual preferences and taste.. I'm mostly munch on the sweets, desserts and shakes❤

Chatti Choru means rice in a type of container. Chatti = A type of Container and Choru = rice in malayalam(Language spoke in Kerala)

get a lassi to calm the spice down, or ask them if they have some yogurt. put a spoonful of the yogurt on the food and then eat it and it's not so spicy

Please keep lassi (sweet yogurt) handy whenever you are trying spicy food or anything that looks red/green. Lassi (sweet yogurt) is easily available everywhere in India.

Something more in outerskirts. May be Orissa, and the indian Heritage village where every family member do the painting in order to make the living. Try hyderabadi biryani in Hyderabad. It's a treat human being should not miss in one's lifetime. Most Indian foods tastes are bit overwhelming for westerners, when it's spicy it's really spicy, same for sweet taste.

Take a small amount of gravy and properly mix the gravy with the rice on the plate.. This is how we manage the heat..😊

You can ask the restaurant to make it less spicy or without chilli, in india not every indians can handle very spicy food, specially kids cannot have chilli. So they do keep such requests

I have one suggestion when you gonna try some spicy curry item with rice then try to mix that curry(ex:butter chicken or butter paneer....) with rice properly and try to eat. Then you can enjoy Indian food properly
