Many of us recently saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. And the DB’s matched the BPM’s! So FROM NOW ON, Band-Maid will grow in popularity even faster as their awesome, sold out 2023 BAND-MAID 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR wrapped up in Japan and Hong Kong. Thx, Mel!

The 2 fer Manners / Black Hole live is a good way to hear 2 other different sides of BM. Then you could slow it down with Wonderland, Daydreaming, About Us or Endless Story for example. Although they are all slower songs they are all quite different in styles.

Kanami is a classically trained pianist. She has spent a decade teaching her friend and founder of Band-Maid to hold a guitar for the first time, play her first string on a guitar to now, a decade later knowing all the chord progressions popping up in classical music, blues, jazz and prog after Miku cried with bleeding fingers from training so hard during the early years. Kanami was also backed deeply by her friends in Band-Maid as their record company refused to accept her compositions during their early years. Miku was likewise refused as a writer of lyrics. They were only allowed to "Band-Maid" stuff written for them by their skills and arrangements. Listen to them now after winning their rights to artistic control!

Amazing shirt! Appropriate, too, since Tony Iommi is arguably the riff-king of rock history… but Kanami, in just 10 years, has become a riff-queen! So many great, memorable, riffs. And, like Iommi, she plays multiple riffs, and riff modifications, in most songs. She’s never afraid of running out of good ones.

By far the best 2 concerts I've ever been to! dbl ♥I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill (old skool hard rock), Dice (70s/80s/noughties rock & pop metal), Manners (old skool rock), Bubble (classic rock - killer riff), No God (live/indescribable) & Puzzle (live/great guitar)

Ace, Welcome to the pigeon-hole. The reason we call Band Maid reactions the pigeon-hole is Miku Kobato, their rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist, refers to herself as a 810 year old pigeon. Kobato means small pigeon in Japanese. She also has another side project as Cluppo, also a nickname for a small pigeon. We Maidiacs (that's what we call ourselves) love these talented young women so much. I have been to two of their live concerts and I along with many others say their live performances are even better. We all have our favorite songs (they have recoreded over 130 songs on 9-10 albums. The band just completed their 10th Anniversary tour with concerts in Japan, throughout the U.S. and Mexico City. They just recently had a live concert in Hong Kong. There is some pretty good fan-cam footage of songs on KZfaq. The band does not usually block any content of their live concerts on KZfaq, so they are available for review. One of my favorite tracks of the band is from their one-hour performance at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago in August 2023. There is a two-song clip from the performance on KZfaq that has gone VIRAL. The clip is of "Dice/Hate?" and is worth the your time to react to it. Another recent release by the band is Shambles", the official music video. It's another banger. By far, one of my favorite songs by Band Maid is "Moratorium". There are many videos of the song for you to choose from. My last suggestion is "Choose Me". There is video of the song that was performed twice during their 10th Anniversary final concert at Yokohama Arena in November. The band allowed concert goers to record the song on their fan-cams. (In Japan, it is usually forbidden to video live concert performances). The second version is acoustic with Saiki, their lead vocalist, accompanying herself on piano. That video is also available on KZfaq.

Kanami's compositions smash our expectations. "Instrumentals are boring" or "pop songs are boring" or "guitar solos are boring" or "ballads are boring." Au contraire, mon père! Only the boring ones are boring. Kanami Tōno's songs are NOT boring. You'll see. Over and over and over, you'll see. Her mind works in wonderfully unusual ways. I'll suggest *"Rinne"* but you can go in almost any direction ... *"Daydreaming"* or *"Giovanni"* or *"Moratorium"* or *"Onset."* It really _doesn't_ matter. Live (on stream) *"Manners" / "Black Hole,"* roll the dice and take a shot.

Great examples. Black Hole is amazing. And I'd throw Influencer in there as its own genre. Kanami is a workaholic genius. She said in an interview that her management company used to require her to write a song every week. It paid off. She talked about how writing every day kept her creative chops up in a way that was impossible otherwise.
@surfingasongwave
@surfingasongwave 6 ай бұрын
@@thisismadness6962 This is very smart. Lots of creative people wait until "the spirit move them" and they are unprepared when it comes. If you write every day, rain or shine, you are already listening when The Muses come to talk. You don't need to find a pen and a pad of paper, you're ready for them. Maybe it's like training your muscles; if you use your creativity, you become more creative. Kanami may be one of those composers who are productive to their dying day.

@@surfingasongwave I hope so, and I hope she's growing till then (although I'll be gone long before Kanami). Her arrangements are wonderful, and they seem more clever every year. One has to worry about the pressure to be commercial as Band Maid further succeed, but hopefully Kanami can deal with that and still amaze us. She has said she'd like to write for other bands as well. I hope to see it.

@@thisismadness6962 It's odd to think about. Practically all music I know was written by people who've come and gone; J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Shostakovich, Duke Ellington, Rogers/Hammerstein, even Lennon/MacCartney did the major part of their writing before I ever heard of them, so I knew everything they had written or were ever going to write. Same for Paul Simon or Pink Floyd or Queen or David Bowie. Now for the first time I wonder what's coming after I've left the room. Not sure how I feel about that.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed live four times with this MV quality in Japan and dropped my jaw four times 😲. I believe so did many of American audience in their recent three US tours. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki, lead vocalist, some break. They played this song, however, as opening at festivals and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄

Of course I smashed the like and subscribe! It’s like watching someone open Christmas gifts of music. “Domination” and then “From Now On” are truly brilliant songs to start with. I’ve been a Maidiac for a while now and I take a lot of pride in recommending songs that appeal to the other person’s interests. Your first Maid song was an example of their arena rock, audience participation music. The cousin of that would be “Freedom,” also live. “From Now On” is progressive heavy metal instrumental, and the cousin of that would probably be “Without Holding Back,” also instrumental. But you deserve to experience the other facets of their musicianship. This band will surprise you. They have a darker side: “Rinne,” OMV. Alice in Chains meets Queen meets KISS: “Moratorium,” LIVE @Zepp Tokyo Or an uptempo 2000’s pop rock ballad, “Daydreaming.” Or another masterpiece: “Blooming,” OMV. Band Maid doing their post-hardcore punk rock with pop sensibilities; and includes a Maid trademark dynamic shifting bridge section. Or, if you want some old school hair metal done Maid style? “DICE,” OMV. Pick a path and enjoy the ride 🚀

Nice reaction. The lead guitar supplies the singing. That's one of the things that makes this so satisfying. They have three other instrumentals that I know of. And they've released instrumental versions of some other songs (just the song stripped of the vocals). I find them all really satisfying even though I love the hundred other songs with vocals. One of the best part about this song is that the lead guitar is not lost in the mix as it often is. Check out Corallium live at Shibuya Eggman and then find the instrumental version. I think it's out there somewhere on a fan site.

There are other instrumentals. 'Onset' LIVE and 'Without Holding Back' on the Instrumental Maid channel. There was an instrumental that Saiki liked so much she got Miku to write some lyrics for it called 'Play!' The old version has pyrotechnics on it, but you can't find it one KZfaq anymore. It's one of those pulled ahead of a DVD release. The version still on KZfaq has a great intro though. You might even like it better. No fire, but it's got lasers!

Hi Melvin! Kanami the lead guitarist is using an Eventide H9 Harmoniser pedal. Their instrumentals are often played mid-set to give Saiki the lead singer a break during their 2+ hour sets - Saiki has had throat surgery in the past so they are careful of her, though it is more of a tradition nowadays. Mid-set they will often play an instrumental, then Miku (rhythm guitar/red rose) will take lead vocals for a song or two (she generally has one song per album where she is lead vocals) and then Miku will do her infamous and hilarious 'Magic Time' MC spot. Then Saiki will come back on.
