Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to go travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didn’t want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY , we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. #Vanlife was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎

There are probably plenty of places to eat throughout that county (no matter how rural) but those guys seem to have a loyalty to her tavern. Rural folk are creatures of habit and loyalty. They could have a diner that's 10 minutes closer to them but they chose Elsie's place because of preference and comfortability.

My grandparents, Guy and Irene Keller, were married on October 17,1922 in the abandoned Methodist Church in Monowi. (The church you visited.) Guy Keller drove the fuel truck out of Mulhairs Mobil Station in Lynch, Nebraska, until his death in 1966.On vacations, I rode with him, and we often stopped at the Monowi Tavern on his trips to fill farmers tanks on outlying farms. My father left Lynch on June 6, 1941 to join the United States Coast Guard and made that his career., never returning to live in the area. That is the story for years of dwindling populations for Boyd County and towns like Lynch and Monowi. I thank both of you for this video.

My parents live in Freetown, Indiana. They town can't afford to incorporate so they are considered a Village. The elementary school and bank closed. The post office is open mornings. They do have a few tiny businesses locally owned and a little museum. It does not have a police department. If it floods or snows too much its likely you are stuck for awhile. Recently a Dollar General opened and provides some groceries and essentials. There are a few churches for those who enjoy sharing worship with the community. My father has a tiny congregation at his church down the street from where he and my mom live. They have been there over 15 years now. It's an interesting and quaint community. Might be an interesting place for you to visit.

Even though I have a certain like for that type of story too. This story made me feel warm for the town and the people that come through the tavern for lunch. I'm glad Elsie is in apparently good health, but I'm a little concerned when I contemplate the coming decade. I like the way you handled this story from beginning to end and the coverage of all the buildings. A few are still in good condition, but some are leaning and may not last long.
