Eu acho que a tentativa da tradução foi descrever como alguém que vem de um lugar distante e esquisito. Como os estrangeiros chamam aqui no Brasil de "mato", faz sentido a tradução reforçar o estereótipo, uma vez que, na maioria das vezes em que os estados do Nordeste são referenciados no filme são de forma pejorativa, demonstram o preconceito para com a região do Raimundo

The name of the movie is a pun. It means stomach in portuguese, so it refers to the gastronomic side of the movie. But, there is an expression in portuguese that says: "tem que ter estômago pra isso", which translates to "you need guts for that" referring to the darker side of the movie.

This movie was actually filmed in the city that I live and they are filming a sequel (prequel). This is one of those simple movies, that they do a lot with very few resources. A precious gem in Brazil's cinematography.

There are a lot of mistranslations there. They're not saying "jungle", they're saying Ceará, that's a northeastern State in Brazil, and it doesn't have jungles, it's mostly semi-arid and has beautiful beaches. Also I don't like them translating Coxinhas, it shouldn't have a translation like other foods don't

This translation is incorrect. Paraíba and Ceará are translated as ‘The Jungle.’ Paraíba and Ceará are states in the Northeast region. They are not ‘Jungles.’ They are the region where ‘The Auto da Compadecida’ was made. And calling someone ‘paraíba’ is PEJORATIVE. He is experiencing xenophobia for most of the film.
