How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.

Admittedly, we were bit nervous to click publish on this video. It's felt really uncomfortable keeping this from you all for nearly a year...when we set out on this journey, we promised ourselves to ALWAYS keep it real. The good, the bad, and the ugly...I hate that legal issues have prevented us for being fully transparent with you all. Thank you again for understanding some of the decisions we've made in the last year that might not have made complete sense and still being here rooting for us, it means more than you know. P.S. Who thinks we should crack a bottle of Todd's homemade wine when we spill the full tea on this situation?! 😂

Dumpy is like the best papa ever, such a lovely guy. I’d also like to say that I’m just happy to watch the content you put out each week. I have no expectations of what you ‘should’ be doing, I truly just love watching your videos. It’s also important that there is someone showing the true realities of home building and dealing with contractors & not a sanitised KZfaq version. I’ll be here no matter what (& I think a lot of your viewers feel the same), so please stop adding to your stress about this. We’ve got your backs!

Guys, I used to work in the construction industry. Sadly between the convoluted building codes (intertwining of city/state/province/ township/village, etc.) and the complexity of how buildings must be built in order to pass inspections, the end result is that the owner of the building is often left in the dark on so many of the incredibly important details. Knowing what I know, it was hard to watch you guys beat yourselves up over the mistakes and failures that were visited upon you and your project. You guys are the essence of kindness, goodness and sense of fair play that I think you expect to see in others and unfortunately isn't always there. I'm so glad that you found Dumpy and even though we all can't be there in person to support you, you know that we do. Hugs, Jules ❤

You two have so much character and it’s a good reminder of how people are to deal with problems. The fact that you don’t mention the company’s name on your channel but instead handle things privately speaks volumes. This is another example why we, your viewers, not only enjoy you, but even more importantly, respect you.

The flip side of us encouraging you to stand up for yourselves is, as I see it, that you standing up for yourselves encourages us also to not let mean or careless people waltz all over us. We're generally a nice crowd and that should not be misconstrued as an invitation to take advantage of us. Thanks for being assertive.

Guys, Don't worry about withholding information from your followers. It's your life and your choice to reveal as you wish. As long as you are only revealing truths about your contractors, and have evidence to support your assertions that may be challenged, you should have no legal problems with a court. (Your videos provide lots of clear evidence of code violations and your receipts for materials should suffice to get some of your additional expenses reimbursed.) Unfortunately, you cannot claim expenses for your own labor, but can claim labor expenses if you have records/receipts/checks/credit card invoices of paying others to perform labor correcting previous mistakes). 🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈

I think Dumpy should be made an honorary member of your family. Please have some footage of him sipping a cocktail in front of your fireplace when it's all done... and don’t stress about a contractor relationship gone bad.
