As an Avs fan this is so devastating to hear. Landy is one of my favorites in the room and he's such an amazing captain. He's always been able to carry them through tough games, and he has this great leading ability to pull his team up from the brink. I hope this doesn't mean he's done forever and that he'll come back next season, but it's certainly a tough pill to swallow. If Nate is our engine, then Landy is our heart.

Avs are gonna be a 2nd rd exit. You gotta be a realist. They don't have the depth nor talent like last year. Now with landy gone for whole playoffs they are in serious trouble. Avs been having trouble lately with scrub teams and barely beat the jets who had like 7 starters out. McFarland fucked the team at the deadline. They should've traded for a top 9 forward. Eller hasn't really impressed. Look at all the playoff teams bottom six compared to ours and it's ridiculous.

Everyone saying mackinnon should be captain. But being captain means more than just who has more skill, it comes down to who can grind until the dying seconds of a game no matter what, a person who makes they’re teammates better and focuses more on how they’re team is doing instead of how they’re personal stats are, a person who is a true leader and I see that in landoskog he is an amazing captain and leads his team with great leadership skills!

Yeah, MacK would make a fine captain and is no doubt a huge leader in the locker room. MacK takes the game on his shoulders and works his ass off as much or more than any player in the league. Landeskog is the Captain because he is one hell of a leader and it is very obvious even from the outside looking in. MacK, Mikko, Cale, and EJ no doubt support him well, help reinforce the culture and make the team more effective, but Landy is the rock.

watching the cup celebvration last year and how all the palyers embraced Landy. Francouz hugging him saying "you're the best captain ever." He is definitely loved in that locker room. Av's won the cup when Forsberg went down. They've been the most banged up team this season and still got to the top of their division. They're getting everyone else back except for Helm. Bednar has been brilliant in his coaching adjustments. And now they have a very sentimental reason to go after the cup again. So, I'm optimistic.

Id never count em out...but im probably picking Edmonton to beat em in WCF rematch now. And thats assuming we win the central...if not-the path to WCFs will be signifigantly tougher. But all things considered-the worst injuries by deffending champ in like 3 decades-this reg season has been an amazingly resilient,& overachieving deal.(tonights piss poor effort to almost blow the division to a team with nothing to play for,& resting most their top guys notwithstanding). Getting back to WCFs would be a very succesful run-all things considered.

This team this year reminds me of 2017 where they relied on the top line to win. With cogs and malgin potentially injured tonight of course they will call up meyers but I think they should call up galchenyuk if they can. Oh man, I didn't see this... Make no mistake, Landeskog was a huge part of the Stanley Cup win. He may not get the most points but he is one of the most all around good players in the league. Being able to throw his body around, fight if needed to defend his players, score when needed, setup plays when needed, lead his team when needed, tip those Makar blueline shots in and he's disciplined. His discipline also rolls down to his team and he keeps them in line and together. He does it ALL... What a shame to lose him for the playoffs , I was really hoping to get him back.

Landeskog has managed to make such a good impression, that even if he is not on the ice whatever specifics of his leadership he imparted on his team still remain. Mac and Lande are the best duo we've ever gotten here in denver (yes better than sakic and forsberg). When Lande blocked that puck with the blade of his skate in that last game vs the lightning, the puck broke his skates blade and seeing Mackinnion carrying him to the bench was the ultimate teammate move you'll see in professional sports. Plus ever since Lande has been out people have been gunning for our star players, its nice to have a captain who has his teammates backs and if he saw a dirty hit you bet Lande was taking his gloves off.

Im gonna have to disagree. Sakic and forsberg were a better duo. People seem to forget if you so much as look to hard today, you get a penalty. Sakic and forsberg played in an era you got your head knocked off you got anywhere near the net. It wasnt until the lockout of 2004 when the league slowly started to change the rules to promote more offense. Im a blues fan and my first ever jersey was a sakic 19 jersey. He was my fav for a long time.
@tennooperator8182

I'm gonna have to disagree as well from your standpoint. While the league is indeed soft and this is coming from someone who at work would swear up and down the 96 Avs were the best the team has ever been, after that 21/22 run it made it clear that I was wrong. But this is the kicker, the amount of talent we have in the league is insane compared to the 80s, 90's and even early 2000's. Gretzky will always be the goat cause no one could touch him besides Mario. Now almost every team has some sort of star player or have a few. If this was the NBA then I'd agree with you cause the 80's and 90's the NBA was harder than it is today but they had stars everywhere just like it is today. Even if we had a 96 Avs vs the 21 Avs I'd put all of my money on the 21 Avs. You have waaaay too many people that make Lande and Mac better and even with Lande gone, Kadri traded, Makar missing a few games, Lehkoden missed 5 ish weeks and Darcy traded we still managed to get back into the playoffs. Oh and my boy Valeri also missed like 2 months. Mac and Linde have a daaaaaamn good person to rely on and his name is Mikko

But luckily we have a ton of leaders in the locker room. Yea we have Mack but also we have Eric Johnson who’s been an av for over a decade. We have Jack Johnson we maybe not the AV pedigree but a guy everyone in that locker room loves and respects. Mikko. We have cogs.. compher. We have a TON of veteran leadership on that squad. My heart is broken for landy but I have faith in the rest of the guys that we can pull it out. Honestly the place well miss him most is in the top 6. He’s a 90 point a year guy. Good for 15/20 in the playoffs. His production is gonna be seriously missed. I’m not sure we can score regularly against a Dallas at full strength wo him. Plus his presence as an absolute tone setter. Mack’s edge comes from landy. Mack can be the player he is bc his co best player, is his captain, and a guy who will throw hands and bang a defenseman on the forecheck. Man this hurts. Good words it truly is devastating to us….

I think as fans we tend to forget how big hockey is to these guys. Since the game is only a small part of our lives we don’t realize it is their entire life.

the Avs are still dangerous even without Makar and Landeskog. I wouldn't count the avs out just because we don't have 2 of our top players. The chemistry on the lines has been insane lately.

Been a rough day...between Landy,& the piss poor effort the Avs put out vs the Manitoba Moose(slight exageration)...uh Jets-& 1 of the worst #2s in the nhl-Rittich. They dont say how-only how many. But if they wanna win the central-which is SOMEWHAT important-better show more effort tomorow, cuz the Preds will play hard guaranteed. Winning the division guarantees nothing,& finishing 2nd doesnt remotely doom us.But a path of Seattle at home, then the Minny-Dallas winner at home vs probably having to beat Minny AND Dallas-with the Stars series guaranteed on the road...it is a somewhat signifigant difference,my opinion.

The Avs are doing just fine without 'Odin', I'd rather have a healthy Landeskog next year then a marginal player now. Long term thinking here and when we three-peat, all concerns will fade.

It hurts. To watch all of the talent the Avs let go last year, only to not have Landy for the entire season, let alone a defending playoff run. It’s definitely raises huge questions for me. That’s a lot of money going to one player without production for 2 entire seasons and now a complete playoff run. Keumper, Kadri, and Jack Johnson all got walked last year. You could have signed Johnson and either of the other two for Landys money, possibly all three if they could have sold Kadri on another cup run.

I watched the press conference with Landy. If he's still exploring options after 2 seasons of this including missing one of them and still in pain?? I just don't know. People questioned Crosby's retirement after his concussion season, as they should, but nobody did in this one and I think that's strange. If his injury is not healed by now, then what??

I wish the Avs would have known earlier, and could have possibly traded first round picks and some young players for a big name in the line up to fill up the 7 million ltir space.

I dont see how the Avs can repeat now. One round, sure they can do it, two rounds maybe but you can only make it so far without your captain, especially one who is as loved as Landy

What is that crazy "whoop whoop" sound they play everytime the avalanche score? It's so annoying. Do they think it makes them trendy or cool? If I was a season ticket holder I would call and demand that they change it because I wouldn't want to be associated with that.

That sucks that he wont get to actually play, but you know what? As a captain him not playing can be a secret advantage because hes gunna get more time from the coaches perspective of the game. For sure he will also be the one to get the cup first. Or at least he should be. Landy is going to be the next Avs GM, and he's shown colorado so much fucking gratitude and loyalty. Even if he was out for the next 2 seasons, I would still say the avs should keep him because he's that important to our franchise. He is the glue for the team and he's the biggest reason why we are where we are now. He worked hard with Sakic and the coaching staff to build a real team here in colorado and there's no doubt in my mind he's worthy enough to wear Sakics shoes once he steps down. To me it's great to see because it feels like my generation that grew up watching Sakic and Hejduk and all them (I still have signatures on my jersey from my first year of hockey from some of the last veterans in the early 2000s) and now we are finally filling the shoes of those idols and forging our own generational legacy in hockey. That's gotta feel pretty fucking special for Landy, and I'm sure theres not a member on that team that wouldn't sacrifice everything to keep landy around. It seems pretty clear that the entire team really respects him. I remember when Mack got offered the C for a little while when landy was first out and he wouldn't wear it because he said "we already have a captain". That's respect. Mack could have taken that C when Roy was "coaching" for us if he could cool his attitude down enough to handle it but he never did despite cooling his attitude down much further than where it was. I remember mack kind of being a big fucking baby the first few years he was here and along with doucher I wanted them gone off the team. How far we've come as a team since those dark days. We were fucking horrible back then. Beer league is a compliment lol. Sakic really turned shit around with this team. I was even surprised when they let Roy go. Figured the team culture stuff would have gotten in front of how awful a coach Roy was and they would have given him a much bigger cushion to fuck around on given what we all know about Roys temper. But Sakic and Landy have stayed dedicated and it's those two that have really put in the most effort to building not just a team, but a family. That's how you win championships. It's not enough to have a group of talented guys. They need to love each other like family. You get that, you got a team that will do anything for each other. That's what teams like the Leafs lack. That's what Herb Brooks saw in the team he built for the 1980 gold medal. Talent isn't enough. It's all about creating a few solid leaders on the team that can take charge and have the chemistry and charisma to motivate and bring out the best in each player. Landy is our Mike Eruzione or Boris Mikhailov. He may not be the best goal scorer, but he's the best and biggest heart we have on the team and that's way more important in a leader. THe most important lesson is don't be a doucher like duchene and leave the team for fucking NASHVILLE of all places to get a cup win. What a silly and dumb move that was. Same with O'reilly even though he's at least somewhere now where he's not being held back by an awful ass team.

Avs still have a chance to win the cup. They’re on the verge of taking the central without so many guys, so at this point I just hope this isn’t going to be career threatening. Gabe’s such a good dude, he deserves to see out his time in the league properly

Ah man....I was hoping he would make the playoffs. Quite frankly makar hasn't been playing much lately either I wish the aves had a player or 2 that had some toughness that would stand up and TCB when their star players get roughed up but I guess that NHL doesn't exist anymore, our loss.
