Lennon is mentioned on the writers list: "Bowie,Lennon,Alomar". Althogh Bowie said, it was more because of his energy than really contribute to the writing of the song. May be he had been given the credit because of David , who was may be pretty proud to be mentioned in one line with Lennon."Lennon-McCartney" was world famous.

Have you heard Young American or Golden Years? Another couple of my favorites. Have a great night. God Bless. PS Speaking of different he also had two different colored eyes.

His eyes were the same color, but photographed like different colors due to a permanently dilated left pupil that happened in a teenage fight with a friend over a girl. The condition is anisocoria . The left pupil was fixed so it did not respond to changes in light. P.S. they remained friends throughout the years!

The life-long friend's name is George Underwood, who was also in several of Bowie's early bands & also did some artwork for some of his albums. He had said that in later years Bowie thanked him for causing the injury, Bowie said it gave him "mystique." The girl's name was Carol Goldman, BTW. I wonder if she is aware of her influence in Bowie's mystique! (as it he really needed much help, haha!)

It wasn't quite like that, according to an interview i saw with Bowie. Lennon, Bowie, Elton John, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, they all lived in LA at the time (the brit invasion) and used to hang out together. Bowie had already written the song and was in one of it's recording sessions and John happened to be in the studio, and every time David sang "faaaaame", John would get to the mic and scream "aaaaaiiimmm" , just for fun. When they were listening to the playback of that session having fun, John suggested that they could actually insert that in the song repeating what Bowie was singing, and so they did. That's why Lennon's name is in the song's credits. And yes, he also played the funky guitar.
@rozequinn1519
@rozequinn1519 3 жыл бұрын
Songfacts.com John Lennon helped write this song - he came up with the title and also sang the background "Fame" parts in the high voice. They started working on the song when Bowie invited Lennon to the studio, and Lennon played rhythm guitar on a jam session that resulted in this track. Bowie met Lennon less than a year earlier at a party thrown by Elizabeth Taylor. Lennon was one of Bowie's idols, and they became good friends.

The word chameleon is always used, but I think shape-shifter is more apropos. This song was from his Young Americans album recorded at Sigma Sound Studio in '75. He called it his "plastic soul" album & it did fairly well here in the US. Never did another like it, MANY great songs on it that never got radio play. Stay, Win, Right, Fascination, all very funky tunes. He was the first white performer to appear on Soul Train when this came out. He did every genre (except country), and created a few new ones along the way. I don't need to make suggestions, everyone is already doing that. Word of caution, you may not love them all, but don't give up & try again!

The thing you thought was a trombone is just a distorted guitar with some reverb. He's bending the note a little but there's no brass in this song. The vocal effect you heard at the end is just a vocal mapped to a keyboard. It's been pitch stretched which can sometimes speed it up and produce an effect that makes it sound mechanical. It has some slap back delay and reverb on it. 😊

Hi Jayvee. Good to see you on with your smiling, happy self. I think this is one of the best David Bowie songs. P.S. And I must say, you're looking all snappy & sharp with that crisp black shirt. Nice material. Take Care ~ Much Love & Music ~!

David Bowie was a musical Artist with a capital A! In both musical styles and looks Bowie was the future. The instrument you thought was a horn is actually a very buzzy guitar sound. You must do Heroes. It’s my favorite song by anybody, period.

When this song came out it blew my mind & was my favorite song. I jam on roller skates to it, dance to it. In the 80's it was still popular & even i spun it at house parties & the clubs. In the 90's David Bowie was smart He re release it again to hip hop & put Queen Latifah on it was a hit again i enjoy mixing both version & still have both copies. 1 great song that stands the test of time. Glad to see you vibin' on it like i did when i first herd it. This legendary artist gave us such great songs for us all to enjoy. He was a innovator a creator and so on & never got pigeon hold in music. From the 60's thru 2016 R.I.P. David Bowie.

My favorite Bowie song is "Let's Dance." It was produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic. You should really check it out.

The song came out in 1974. Lennon is playing rhythm to Alomar’s counter-rhythm, and is doing the backup vocals to Bowie. Bowie’s low voice “Fame” is answered by John’s high pitched “Fame” response.

Bowie...He did what he like regardless of everything. He´s truly the definition of POP music. For me, he and Prince are, not were, a class of their own. Plus Freddie not to be forgotten. David, Prince and Freddie...Wow.

It was pre-disco by a couple of years, everything Bowie did was "pre".

Fame was the first step Bowie took into funk/disco. Check out "Young Americans", "Golden Years", and "Stay", also great grooves from this era.

Wanted to do R & B with a twist! Accomplished! The brother who was playing bass truly enjoyed the experience in the documentary. Bowie was always ahead of the curve!

I was nine years old when this song came out in 1975 and I remember David Bowie sang this song on the CHER show! Bowie and Cher also performed a cool hits medley together on that episode! Love Bowie! Love Cher! Love the 70's & 80's! Great memories!
