His eyes were the same color, but photographed like different colors due to a permanently dilated left pupil that happened in a teenage fight with a friend over a girl. The condition is anisocoria . The life-long friend's name is George Underwood, who was also in several of Bowie's early bands & also did some artwork for some of his albums. It wasn't quite like that, according to an interview i saw with Bowie. Lennon, Bowie, Elton John, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, they all lived in LA at the time (the brit invasion) and used to hang out together. Bowie had already written the song and was in one of it's recording sessions and John happened to be in the studio, and every time David sang "faaaaame", John would get to the mic and scream "aaaaaiiimmm" , just for fun. When they were listening to the playback of that session having fun, John suggested that they could actually insert that in the song repeating what Bowie was singing, and so they did. That's why Lennon's name is in the song's credits. And yes, he also played the funky guitar.
@rozequinn15193 жыл бұрын
Songfacts.com John Lennon helped write this song - he came up with the title and also sang the background "Fame" parts in the high voice. They started working on the song when Bowie invited Lennon to the studio, and Lennon played rhythm guitar on a jam session that resulted in this track. Bowie met Lennon less than a year earlier at a party thrown by Elizabeth Taylor. Lennon was one of Bowie's idols, and they became good friends.

The word chameleon is always used, but I think shape-shifter is more apropos. This song was from his Young Americans album recorded at Sigma Sound Studio in '75. He called it his "plastic soul" album & it did fairly well here in the US. Never did another like it, MANY great songs on it that never got radio play. Stay, Win, Right, Fascination, all very funky tunes. He was the first white performer to appear on Soul Train when this came out. He did every genre (except country), and created a few new ones along the way. I don't need to make suggestions, everyone is already doing that. Word of caution, you may not love them all, but don't give up & try again!

The thing you thought was a trombone is just a distorted guitar with some reverb. He's bending the note a little but there's no brass in this song. The vocal effect you heard at the end is just a vocal mapped to a keyboard. It's been pitch stretched which can sometimes speed it up and produce an effect that makes it sound mechanical. It has some slap back delay and reverb on it. 😊
