A "book about sex aimed at kids" should focus on the anatomy. What your private genitals are called, how they function, what you may experience and how they will change during puberty, things like that. Actual, helpful, relevant, educational information. For the ages of 11 and up (and the "mature 8 year olds"). The Sexual Acts should be in a separate book for the older kids. End of story.

I grew up in the sheltered times when parents and teachers let us discover it for ourselves. So much fun, being curious and letting instincts rule. All my parents said were, "Tell us if anyone touches you when you don't want it, dad said, "I'll deal with them."

They say the book is aimed at 11+ year olds, but the art and the colors used on the cover looks much more like the kind of book aimed towards toddlers. I'm thinking they came up with 11+ because that sounded (to their messed up ears) less creepy than who they're actually targeting.

Anyone who would give this kind of book to your kids behind your back should be banned from seeing your kids ever again. Regardless of their motives it is creepy and not their responsibility to "educate" your children on such matters.

10 years ago I was heart broken when I found out that I was unable to have children with my wife. I would break down when thinking about how I wouldn't have the opportunity to share that experience with the woman that I love. Then I started to pay attention to the news feeds and the things on social media. I am somewhat relieved that these things will never be a concern in my house (even though i get bent out of shape when i see or hear about these things). The most I ever read about in a similar themed book as a child was something like: “you’re gonna start to get hormones during puberty that make you attracted to certain people, if you do have sex make sure you wear a condom so you don’t get stds”. Which is all you really need to know at that age. This all reminds me of a certain south park episode, if you’ve seen it you’ll know what I’m talking about.

If a teacher showed me a book like this book when I was that age, the experience would scar me for life in the same way as being shown p.rn by an adult (as opposed to accidentally stumbling across p.rn by yourself when you're a kid, which I did at about 12 or 13). My parents bought me a book when I was like 9-10 about the human body. They were separated into 'women' and 'men' categories. It was amazing. Not extremely graphic and actually educated you on important subjects, like pregnancy, periods, and private parts of the body. Not only that but it also talked about family and how female and male work differently. Friends and how to interact with others in a healthy way. I still have it and it was amazing to read about it. We should give kids these types of books instead where they actually learn important things way beyond the thing they have underneath their pants. Not this "inclusive" bullshit, kids should know how babies are made. Not how people pleasure themselves THAT IS NOT EDUCATION THAT IS PORN

I remember training as a preschool teacher in the UK nearly twenty years ago. One of the books we had to use that was supposedly aimed at 2-5 year olds talked about where babies came from. The language wasn't too explicit, but it was very detailed. One description I remember vividly is when it explained that "sometimes the Mummy has an orgasm, which is like a great big sneeze inside the Mummy's tummy!" Yeah. There were other reasons I abandoned any thoughts of making that my career, but that was a major part of it.

I think books telling pre-teens and teens the ins and outs of their developing bodies is good. I think they need to know its gonna be awkward, ugly, weird, painful, embarrassing, unique, and most importantly, normal. I also think teaching them how reproduction (sex) works is beneficial when it comes to risks, consequences, and mechanics. It starts to cross a line when it's teaching kids how to have sex. Not WHY or WHAT sex is and is for. But HOW. Especially when it's for pleasure. In 96-97 (I was about 7 or 8), my mother was loaning biology books from the library to teach us about sex and body parts and their function. It isn't new. What's new is actual pornographic comics targeted towards kids for the simple reason of introducing them to sex for pleasure. Those books should be reserved for teens 16 and over, when they're actually old and ugly enough to have sex.
