You're right. I've seen normal sane woman get hassle from them as well. It feels creepy and double edged when the compliment comes from a random stranger. I had many compliments from strangers, in person or through Facebook, it never felt genuine and there always was some hidden agenda. Maybe I'm biased because in my preteens and early teens I was a literal magnet for perverts (older men asking me out on "dates" and wanting to "take care or me") trying to flatter me with cheap compliments and prey on my naivety so I harbour a general distrust. It feels completely different when the compliment comes from a person you're familiar with tho. Strangers don't know you or care about you and their compliments are meaningless and shallow.
